I’d also be interested to know this. For example when upgrading via the IUP surely when selecting a time to collect, the phone is reserved for you because if you spent too long deliberating someone else may buy it so would it tell you rather than let 2 people arrange to collect 1 phone?

Yes it would have to be on selection of the time slot. Proper to that, as you said, someone else could be booking the same slot as you

At no point before the confirmation is anything locked in. When selecting your time slot, someone else could snipe the device. It happened to me many times last year during my hunt for a Jet Black 7 Plus.

That sounds very stressful!!! So if me and you were both at the collection time screen and you picked a time before me, you would get the phone but what happens to me, I pick a time, press reserve and then get told sorry no longer available or do I get a order confirmation but get contacted to say it’s not available or worse still ... turn up to collect it and get told it’s not available?!!

What every the last click or call back to Apple to confirm the reservation is, will be the defining point an item of stock is allocated to you. If two people were doing it at the same time, it will come down to which request hits the server first, thus putting ‘a hold’ on the phone. If your request is a split second behind someone else’s, you will get the horrible ‘no longer available’ type message

It is. And if you miss out on launch day, the reservation page refreshes every morning at 6AM. So it was two weeks for me of 6AM wake-ups to check the availability. On three occasions they had what I wanted but after hitting the confirm button had the 'no longer available' message. It's really crap, I got the feeling that bots were managing to reserve them somehow, because it was inhumanly quick.

As @Jinjin said... whichever one hits Apple's server first. It's more luck than anything.

This is what I assumed. Good to have concrete information from experience.

Does anyone recall or can find the 6+ launch availability? Just trying to get a feel for my chances on Friday, apparently ~3 million units available. I remember the 6+ was very hard to come by on launch but I still managed to get one by ordering through the app at pretty much 0801.

Decided I will pre order and if it slips to Jan Feb time I will cancel and get it when I got to Hong Kong in February time

To be honest, there's not even much point speculating. Nobody knows how many units are available to which of the different channels, its all guesswork. All you can do is give it a go at 08:01 and see what happens.

For anyone who misses out on launch there is an option at O2 where you sign up for the O2 refresh deal and get the phone and cancel the airtime plan immediately and only pay off the device. I did this on Iphone 6 when it was sold out sim free everywhere. It costs around £20 more than the original price but might make it easier to get it on launch if you miss out on apple or other websites.

would the phone be unlocked as long as I didn't put an O2 sim in it?

A while back I said February but not sure I'd wait that long now and a lots depends on the trade in price I get for my 7+. As long as the trade in price doesn't fall below the settlement cost of my Barclays iPhone payments plan I will probably upgrade. Currently about £120 more than the settlement price so definitely worth me upgrading!

Will be disappointed if don't get for launch day but realistic about my chances and prepared to see it slip quickly to 6 weeks for delivery.

Have not yet bought a case because was really wanting to have an X in my hand before I trade in the 7+. If am not in love with the X when it arrives I am quite prepared to hold onto my 7+ til next year since the phone will all be paid up in April allowing me to save towards the next one. However everyone who knows me would bet against that happening

What colour is everyone planning to order?
So will you have two iUP agreements in place at the same time?

I want black. I know that silver is a reference to the original iPhone but I don't care. I want black this time. I had white 3G, white 6S Plus now, and black 4S in between. So now it is time for black again!

I dont remember exactly, the guy was very helpful and he explained it all to me. Im not sure if he unlocked it there or it was already unlocked. I was not on O2 and it worked with my giffgaff sim.

Giffgaff use o2 for there network so it would be the same as using a o2 sim.

I think I am going to force myself to buy the phone outright and stick with Vodafone for another 12 months then use the money from the iPhone 10 to buy out the last 3 months or so from Vodafone and then go the IUP route from that point onwards.

Will be putting the phone onto my credit card anyway and then I can make a final decision.

So is it safe to use Apple Pay in app to preorder phone or is it safer to use other option (which I tested and for some reason it wont auto add my address... despite me having an address entered in my profile)

I’ve used Apple Pay for both iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 2017 launches.

Both times I’ve had payment issues, but I’d take that again if it means I get my order in faster.

It’s only at the point of shipping it’s an issue and can be resolved with a phone call to Apple.

Ah so it wont delay the order, if I managed to get an early ship date as long as I ring apple to confirm I will get on time?

I’m going to explore Apple Pay this time, as long as it doesn’t push back my delivery date I’m fine, I mean as long as you attempted to pay, you’re locked in right?
