Anyone with an in store pickup and pay via Apple Pay not yet had the money taken?

HSBC have confirmed no transactions or authorisations from Apple yet.

I've heard there's been lots of problems with Apple Pay being declined, so I'm concerned now....

The transaction doesn't appear in the Wallet app either.

Yep exactly the same. I have one ordered for delivery, this has gone through and bank confirmed they had not blocked Apple. But I also have another for pickup on the 3rd, this is ordered but not charged at all. Bank confirmed Apple have not charged yet, nor have they blocked. Apple say they’ll charge when stock is allocated, so Tuesday or weds when in store. Just make sure your bank are aware of your purchase coming and it’ll pass fraud checks.

I have two transactions pending with Apple Store on the relevant card in my wallet. One at 8:04 (which is the time I completed checkout - 3/11 delivery) and another at 8:18, both show £0.00 and both say "pending". Who knows...
My delivery status is Preparing For Despatch, but that's for home delivery not Pick Up.
I’m exactly the same as above, don’t worry!

Just ordered this, looks good quality and has a cut out that makes the bottom of the screen accessible for swiping up! arriving Nov 1st, two days before my X, can't wait!

Selling mine with Music Magpie, courier pick up, got £395 for my 128 7 Plus, happy with that.

Which one? The one I can see, Torras, didn't have any cut out

. Just make sure your bank are aware of your purchase coming and it’ll pass fraud checks.

Banks can't pre-authorize transactions, the only thing they can do is flag you as being abroad so the fraud systems know to expect transactions from Timbuktu. If a fraud system flags a transaction as outside of your normal patterns, it gets flagged. Thats kind of the point.

Yeah its not bad either.....£440 on a 7 plus.

I know! £380 for mine (128gb). Still haven’t decided what to do. Might just see if I pass the credit check for a second iUP agreement and take the phone back away (envirophone offer was £400 yesterday with the code that was posted). Have just over £300 to pay on my iUP I think.

In the excitement of pre ordering and going through the rush to try and secure an order I didn't check to see if they charge your card on dispatch even if you're collecting instore? Or do they charge on pickup?

They charge about the night before or on be day of pickup it seems

I wonder how much stock CPW has or is hoping to receive, the X is still in stock for Nov 3 delivery (Silver) and Nov 10 delivery (Space Grey), although when you go to select a SIM Free option it says "the deal is not available".

I hope my local CPW store carriers some stock! Can you reserve online for store collection and pay in store?

I’m wondering if this year is different, things seem to have gone into preparing for dispatch much earlier than normal? Perhaps suggesting a tracked shipment from China.

I would imagine these are coming from the UK. The same happened with the 8 and 8 Plus. It immediately went to preparing for despatch on the preorder day then on the day before launch changed to despatched. I actually got the DPD tracking from DPD prior to Apple updating the order status.

So I considered buying the X on contract. I didn’t want a new contract but I was looking at an early upgrade on 3.

But at the unbelievably high tariffs they are charging it was £250 to upgrade early (5 months left) and £250 up front and then £85pm.

Clearly £500 up front isn’t as much as £999 - but I have an iPhone 8 Plus that I can trade in online for at least £550 (and could sell on eBay for more.

The maths therefore said to me that I would rather buy the phone outright and sell on my 8+ and the X will “only” cost me the difference of around £400.

Should have done like me!! I have changed my iPhone 8 Plus every two weeks since they launched. Back to Apple store on Day 14 returned and swapped for a brand new one until preorders for X opened. I made my last swap yesterday and will take this 8 Plus back next week for a full refund.

I did it as an upgrade so that wouldn’t have worked but I’ve certainly done similar before...

Well this is exciting (living the high life on a Saturday night...). I’m going to the US for work on the 7th and was planning to get a case there but I’d have ended up spending a lot more overall given the exchange rate. Never had an Otterbox before but I’m a sucker for a pale blue/green but just realised there’s no cut out. Oh well, will see how it goes.

APPLE WILL NOT CHARGE YOU UNTIL ITS ON THE WAY TO YOU. That’s why phones being shipped to customers direct now are being charged.

In the case of in store pickups this means earliest Wednesday next week; probably more likely Thursday.

So don’t worry.

In Apple Store credit (onto a gift card) though not straight cash for that amount. Depending on how you are buying next phone that is not necessarily convenient. I want to pay off the balance of the Barckays finance with the sale of my 7+ - can’t do that with a gift card.

I didn’t know that, that’s very helpful, thank you. Are you going with a new iUP agreement for your X? I can’t work out whether it’s better to clear off the existing one before Friday or whether it won’t matter.

They may not charge but they certainly ring fence the money and preauthorise. My card has already reduced my available funds by £999.

It’s gone through according to AmEx.. not just a preauth. (According to my statement it isn’t pending either)

Can you trade in to buy applecare? I already paid for my phone but would be useful to put towards applecare+

Theres 2 different schemes: "Trade-up" where you can just take a phone in and get Apple store credit for it. If you are going with iup this applies:

Can I trade up my current smartphone and buy my new iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Programme?
Yes. If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Programme at an Apple Store, the trade-in credit will be applied to your debit or credit card.

I didn’t know that Apple give £440 gift card for 7 Plus 128gb - I only saw £380 but that might have been just cash.

I paid through Apple Pay to pick up my iPhone x in store. Can I sell my iPhone 7 Plus now for the gift card and use it towards the iPhone X when I pick it up?

I don’t think so, the X will have been processed separately and already before you can apply the discount.

They likely tell you to refund and repurchase
