Well here it is. I honestly think it looks a darker shade of red on the website

That looks lovely. Very regal. I swore I would never buy another Apple leather case but that is tempting me. If only they wouldn't scratch so easily :( Might look for a knock off version.

Reminds me of a lovely red leather case I had on my first (white) macbook until some ******* stole it!!

I’ve had my Spigen (Thin Fit) case, teasing me, for the past 5 weeks! Driving me crazy seeing it empty of an X!!

Yeah I made the point of not ordering a case until I had ordered on 27th and knew I had an X coming on Friday.

So by the fact that mine hasn’t dispatched yet and it’s supposedly arriving on Friday I guess it’s already in the UK.

Which means it’s probably one of the first ones off the production line and will have all kinds of defects!

Wow - are you always so optimistic? Maybe the first batches were the most carefully produced of all!!

We are now entering the fun phase of this thread as people start to worry about orders still saying "preparing to dispatch". The pressure will slowly mount through today and tomorrow until, sometime tomorrow afternoon someone will report having spoken to Apple and being told that no deliveries will be made on Friday, and we will all have to wait until Monday for them.

Mass hysteria will then follow for an hour or so, until people start getting notifications and tracking details and everyone will calm down again. Except for two people whose tracking info does say Monday. One will be from the Scottish Highlands and the other will be somewhere random, like Hemel Hempstead, and seems to have been selected totally at random so we have someone to direct group sympathy towards.

That's how it always used to work anyway. This is my first release day order for a few years, so I haven't followed this thread for the last couple of releases. Does that still happen each year?

:)
We now have man on the inside. His name is Francis. Generally a member of the board will post after just getting off a chat with him for some 11th hour reassurance. This normally opens the floodgates and triggers a series of ‘dispatched’ posts

I’m not seeing it in the API documentation?

But programmers are having to update wording within their apps to say accordingly FaceID or TouchID.

Developers can also determine it by making the correlation it’s an iPhone X and make the app require manual authentication.

My understanding, based on comments on these forums from people who seem to know what they are talking about, is that the apps just ask the phone for verification without specifying what method to use, so FaceID should just work if TouchID currently does.

I have heard suggestion that app designers can, or will be able to, specifically turn off a method. So they can, for example state that they don't want FaceID to work. However, the way that has been explained suggests it is a specific action they have to take and if so, I have no idea whether they have been able to pre-update the apps to do this.

I think it's a case of wait and see. It is of course possible (even likely) that the HSBC twitter people have incorrect info.

From what I've read, in very simplistic terms, an application requests a biometric authentication and the phone delivers it. At the moment it will do it via TouchID, on the X it will be by FaceID. The app doesn't care which, it just gets the result of the authentication request. Which is why applications don't need updated to work with FaceID.

So if someone doesn't want their app to use FaceID I guess they just remove the biometric option and insist on password.

Yepp, banks should really disable FaceID. There’s it the option to disable FaceID but leave TouchID enabled.
Yep, inconvenience everyone for the sake of the 0.3% of the population that have an identical twin and the even tinier proportion of those who would try to maliciously access their twin’s phone. Great idea.

I am really desperate and don’t wanna wait until my delivery December. :/
looking as date is not budging I am thinking now maybe is it any way I could order it somewhere else this Friday morning - unlocked as well to collect next day or delivery next day?

Can someone enlighten me about Francis? See his name mentioned here and want to know why lol

Something to do with Apple Watch thread?

There is more chance of stranger being a close finger print match and able to access your iPhone via TouchID than with FaceID. Surely that is more important than the odds your own twin doing something malicious.

John Lewis is your best bet. Get your account setup, save your card details in your account, be logged in on both the app and the website, and good luck :p

I think it was Hemel Hempstead a few years ago

Or have a very strongly worded disclaimer about the limitations of Face ID if you have a twin, and let users decide?

This isn’t quite true. As a developer myself, it is very easy to write a line of code that determines whether the device is or isn’t an iPhone X (this can be done by several methods).

If the device is an iPhone X you could ask for a password and if it isn’t you could ask the user for Touch ID effectively skipping out Face ID.

I didn't think they could? Biometric authentication is delivered by the phone by whatever method is available to it - FaceID or TouchID, it doesn't distinguish and neither does the app. So either biometric authentication is on or off?

At least that's what I've read and heard. I know there was a lot of misinformation about this posted on places like this when the phone was announced, but Apple have been pretty consistent about it from the start I thought?

What's the practical benefit/application of this if biometric authentication is more secure than passwords?

I've now sold my 7+ on eBay for £540, but am away tomorrow for three nights in Germany & will have a long wait until I first see my new X on Sunday night.

It'll be a fun few days on the family spare iPhone 5C that follows us around like the Austin Allegro on Top Gear.
