Hey Guys!

Would you mind if I asked a question regarding updating via Apple?

I noticed this section on the Apple Store App (Attached)

I still have a year to go on my Three contract, how is it possible for me to renew via Apple? Has anyone done this? Does it just mean I would pay both the remainder of the Three contract and Apple on top of that?

Thank you

There is no excuse for Apple to have $=£

Apple products are now between £100-£200 more than they should be in the UK taking into account exchange rates.

Apple have also taken out the lower storage options on phones meaning you have to go for the higher capacities, making it more expensive again, so much for Apple selling products to all people or any budget.

I'd rather spend my hard earned on my baby daughter (and nursery fees!) and keep my iPhone 6S Plus 128gb which I bought brand new, sealed, on eBay in Feb 2017 for £450 (which btw is still £200 cheaper than Apple is selling the same model for today!).

I have to say that I was disapointed that 1, the highest capacity is 256 and that 2, the 128 size was removed... imo 128 is perfect... 64 is tiny.. especially if one of the crowning features of the device is a HDR 4k OLED display... but i digress..

Well, my plan is this....

Gonna try to pre-order the iPhone 8 on Friday. If I manage to get one, gonna take up Apple's Upgrade Program, so that I can get a new device every year. If I don't manage to get one, I'll just wait a month or so when they are back in stock and do the Upgrade program then.

Seeing that I'm currently still paying for my iPhone 7 via Apple's Paypal Credit option (have £390 still left to pay), and Envirofone have offered me £366 for my 7, when I get my 8, I'll send in my 7 and use the funds to pay off my PayPal Credit (which stupidly I took out last year at 14%:rolleyes:o_O) and just continue with Apple's Upgrade Program which has interest of zero %.

Bit torn with this one. The X looks real nice and I could stomach the cost if there was some kind of certainty over the iPhone product line in the future. Right now it just looks confused. You have the X, which has done away with Touch ID and good as it may be, it's not as slick as Touch ID for mobile payments (which I use several times a day). I'm reluctant to buy into what could well be a 'concept' phone for £1200 when the next model reintroduces Touch ID if they work out how to fit it under the glass.

I'm running a launch day 6+ and I could quite easily slap in a new battery and run this sucker for another couple of years quite happily on my £20p/m 20GB data plan, but I can't cope with 16GB storage and constant 'storage almost full' reminders any longer (yes, I should've bought bigger in the first place, I know). The 8+ looks really nice, but again it looks expensive when you consider that it's basically a 7+ with a minor spec bump.

If I could get some kind of reassurance that the X won't be subjected to a major backtrack next year (i.e. adding Touch ID or some new killer feature) I'd happily pay for the 256GB model because I know I'll run it for at least 3-4 years. Right now, I'm not so sure because Apple's lineup is so confused.

I think the only real guarantee is the issues they are going to have with producing enough units to meet demand... I think the X will be like AirPods... which you still have to wait weeks to get ahold off from Apple...

...how do we actually pre-order on Friday anyway?

EDIT - Looks like this is the link:

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-8

...and after pre-ordering from this link, how do we then set up the Apple Upgrade program stuff (the Apple Store App has an option to select it -see below)?!

I guess I can either use the first link I posted, to pre-order, or alternatively, use the app to pre-order ??!

The X is lovely and all, but do they really think that phone deserves the same goddamn home screen arrangement that we've had since day one?
This phone was years in the making, anniversary edition, yet once you open it with your face it's same old same old? Big opportunity missed for some sort of update on that front.

I think will go for the iphone 8 plus 256gb. Now question do I get it through apple iPhone payment or o2 refresh. Descions descions look l.

I'm strongly considering the same, though with a leather case added, the basket comes to the same total as the X. Decisions, decisions, decisions...

How does o2 refresh work? What's the additional cost? I'm think of going for the 8+ and then maybe upgrading next year when they revise the X. Although god only know what Apple will do next.

there are not many more 'killer' new feature a phone can have surely? Given they could only promote Face ID on the keynote with Animojis shows they were clutching at straws trying to justify the novelty of this.

I don't think Apple will backtrack from Face ID and have a device that supports both forms of authentication in the future. What you will see is improvements in the technology which will make the process less prone to failures and faster, similar to how the 1st gen of touch ID was to what it is now on the 7.

I feel they will continue to have a button/touch ID range and a higher prices/spec Face ID device for a few years at least.

I don't think they have VAT, but you always need to add sales tax (which varies by state).

I think New York for example, has 8.5% sales tax.

It apparently works out to be something around £100 being additionally pocketed by Apple when you take into account exchange rates and varying tax rates.

Apple are taking the opportunity to normalise £1 = $1 going forward. They don't miss a trick to screw the consumer.

Nearer the time I will look at how much it will cost to buy out my contract against what it will cost to upgrade with Vodafone against IUP with a sim only tariff.

I change between iPhones and android a lot though so this would mean I have to stick with Apple if I go the IUP route.

I've just done a rough calculation.

If I bought a 256Gb X with Applecare when I'm in New York in November, it would cost me circa £1150, which is the price of the UK model without Applecare +, so a £200 "saving".

It's a great deal (60%).

Vodafone UK employees get a certain amount of F&F 'slots'-I think 2 x 80% & 2 x 60%.

My wife works for a company where they can use the Vodafone discount scheme but it looks like the discount is not that much from what she said.

Need to find a new friend who works for Vodafone now lol

Yes that should do the trick. You’ll just need to buy a usb c to lightening cable

No it won't work. You need an Apple or 3rd-Party USB-C charger and a lightning to USB-C cable. The expectation from Apple is that you buy their MacBook USB-C charger and USB-C/Lightning cable.
