My wife works for a company where they can use the Vodafone discount scheme but it looks like the discount is not that much from what she said.

Need to find a new friend who works for Vodafone now lol
I think NHS etc get 20 or 30% discount, but Vodafone staff obviously get a better deal.

I've just done a rough calculation.

If I bought a 256Gb X with Applecare when I'm in New York in November, it would cost me circa £1150, which is the price of the UK model without Applecare +, so a £200 "saving".

That include this?

Purchases above $110 are subject to a 4.5% NYC Sales Tax and a 4% NY State Sales Tax. The City Sales Tax rate is 4.5%, NY State Sales and Use Tax is 4% and the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375% for a total Sales and Use Tax of 8.875 percent

How does o2 refresh work? What's the additional cost? I'm think of going for the 8+ and then maybe upgrading next year when they revise the X. Although god only know what Apple will do next.

With o2 you have a device plan and an airtime plan.
Now These figures are made up but it gives you an idea. So let's say you got an iPhone 8 64 GB and a 5GB tariff.
£35 a month for the device £15 a month for the tariff.
So with refresh if you want to upgrade you need to pay the remainder of your phone plan if you're still in the contract.

I'm sure there's an easier way to explain it lol

No it won't work. You need an Apple or 3rd-Party USB-C charger and a lightning to USB-C cable. The expectation from Apple is that you buy their MacBook USB-C charger and USB-C/Lightning cable.
I've got one of those.

I use it for my 12.9 iPad Pro and my 7+ and its super quick to charge.

Yes, I used 10% tax to keep my calculations simple!

T-Mobile (paid in full & unlocked) iPhone X 256Gb=$1149.
Applecare Plus=$199
Sub total=$1348
Tax (10% for simplicity)=$134
Total=$1882

$1882 divided by 1.3 (current £ to $ rate)=£1140.

my bad, I'm thinking of my Retina MacBook which is USB-C

Hey Guys!

Would you mind if I asked a question regarding updating via Apple?

I noticed this section on the Apple Store App (Attached)

I still have a year to go on my Three contract, how is it possible for me to renew via Apple? Has anyone done this? Does it just mean I would pay both the remainder of the Three contract and Apple on top of that?

Thank you
You would have to continue to pay your Three contract and then get your new iPhone from Apple. Remember you would also have to add in the monthly cost of a SIM only deal. You could also sell your old phone and use the funds to pay off your Three contract.

The 64GB base storage is madness. For a device that’s recording 4K@60fps and 1080@240fps that’ll be filled up in no time. The UK pricing and the pre-order delays are the main things that have annoyed me and it could have been so much more palatable if the storage was 128/512GB.

Maybe a stupid question, but I'm already on the upgrade programme with my i7, do I have to pay the £69 deposit again if I upgrade to the 8 or X?

Indeed. I think the problem with the X is that it's not different enough in the right places from the 8 (and Plus) to justify the massive price. If it was 512GB and the 8 wasn't, and if the processor was better, then cool. Realistically it's a new form factor with an authentication system that seems like an afterthought because they couldn't get TouchID anywhere.

The issue I have with the 8 is that it's the cost of a brand new iPhone that looks and feels almost identically to my 6 and the 7. Glass back... ok so it wont slip out of my hand without a case... but for an extra few hundred quid might as well get something that actually looks and feels like a proper upgrade... it's not like the 8 is cheap

Peeps who did the iUP programme with the iPhone 7 last year, any chance of a quick run-down for how you did it, and how long it took you to get your phone?

I'm currently battling my brain between joining iUP and buying SIM-only outright from Apple with the chance of much earlier shipping dates.

...and after pre-ordering from this link, how do we then set up the Apple Upgrade program stuff (the Apple Store App has an option to select it -see below)?!

I guess I can either use the first link I posted, to pre-order, or alternatively, use the app to pre-order ??!

If you look at the bottom of the picture it states Apple Upgrade programme is exclusively available at Apple Stores - i.e. you can't set it up online.

There is no excuse for Apple to have $=£

Apple products are now between £100-£200 more than they should be in the UK taking into account exchange rates.

Apple have also taken out the lower storage options on phones meaning you have to go for the higher capacities, making it more expensive again, so much for Apple selling products to all people or any budget.

I'd rather spend my hard earned on my baby daughter (and nursery fees!) and keep my iPhone 6S Plus 128gb which I bought brand new, sealed, on eBay in Feb 2017 for £450 (which btw is still £200 cheaper than Apple is selling the same model for today!).

Uk prices on the iPhone X are 80-92 quid more expensive than the US iPhone X prices.

Apple have not made it easy this year...

I used to upgrade every two years so was set to do it last year but then the upgrade was just too expensive to justify when my 6+ was running well and the promise of a much bigger update this year.

Well the update has come and it's way out of my price range.

So now back to the drawing board...

My current 6+ is getting sluggish and that's probably because it's 64gb is full. So my options must be more than 64gb which is why price wise the X is out.

I would go for the 7+ (128gb) as I like the size and the camera but that doesn't qualify for the interest free finance so adds roughly £100 to the cost.

The 8+ (256gb) is an option as like the wireless and fast charge options and can get interest free credit but it's feels overpriced/more than I really want to pay and is heavier

So brings in the 7 or 8 as an option as lighter and a little bit cheaper but without as good a camera (which is also very important for me now on a phone) and having got so used to the bigger screen not sure how much I want to go the smaller model.

Will also have to take a look at other non-apple options but as I have ipad and macbook and thinking about watch would be reluctant to leave apple - but because of all of the above it's the first time it's becoming a realistic option!

Sell your current phone, use the money as an up-front payment to reduce your monthly and get an iPhone X 256. Sorted.

Not sure I understand, how does a lack of finance increase the cost by £100? At best finance can give you an additional cost of £0, not money off?
