My current 6+ is getting sluggish and that's probably because it's 64gb is full. So my options must be more than 64gb which is why price wise the X is out.
Also a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus owner and it's been getting noticeably sluggier since iOS 10 for me. Definitely upgrading this year, but I'm done with iPhone after 8 years. The iPhone X price and storage options have only confirmed my decision. I made it my personal pledge to not settle with 64GB for my next phone as it's simply not enough to get the most out of your phone. With only 64GB and 256GB options available for the iPhone X, it's a joke. It's either all or nothing. You'd expect a 128GB storage option as 4K video recording will eat up the storage in no time and there's now way i'd pay £999 for 64GB of storage.

He says that it doesn't qualify for interest free finance, so the cost of interest adds £100.
Ah silly me, assumed that he wouldn't be using finance if he couldn't get it interest free. I realise that's not an option for everyone.

The only reason I'm considering the X is because our family phones are all paid off, out of contract and we need to buy my daughter a phone so we can move them all around in the family and sell one on.

The upside for me with the X is the dual-camera setup in a smaller form factor than the 8 Plus.

The big downside, apart from cost, is that I'm also not convinced they won't backtrack on Face ID and TouchID once they're a generation down the line.

The 64GB base storage is madness. For a device that’s recording 4K@60fps and 1080@240fps that’ll be filled up in no time. The UK pricing and the pre-order delays are the main things that have annoyed me and it could have been so much more palatable if the storage was 128/512GB.

I currently have a 256GB and a 128GB iPhone 7
Can you put a 'cash' deposit down on the iUP?

No Idea, I normally buy mine sim-free from Apple. My friend does it through the network, they normally have an up-front cost then split the remainder over the contract length. Although you can pay the hardware off at any time.

Does anyone recall whether it was possible, at the start of last year’s preorder, to make a store reservation for the day after launch? I can’t make the store on the release day.

Sell your current phone, use the money as an up-front payment to reduce your monthly and get an iPhone X 256. Sorted.

Sadly already have an offer for envirofone for my current iphone of £250 so that is already factored into my calculations above (but might get used for a watch.....). The X seems very nice in terms of size and screen but that little intrusion from the camera is f'ugly and I'm happy to let the early adoptors (of which I always used to be one) do the ground work on face recognition and I'll look at the stabler/cheaper/older versions of the X in a year/2 years time.

And as £250 seems a good offer for the 6+ really don't want to be messing around until October as value goes down of getting short term replacement phones.

I think I'll have to give Apple a call and see if instore they will still do 0% finance on the 7/7+ models and then that might make decision.

Regarding the iPhone Upgrade Programme....

Join the programme.
Reserve your new iPhone online for pickup at an Apple Store near you, where one of our Specialists will help you enrol in the programme.

So presumably a payment option once you've reserved your phone will be to "enrol in the programme" and you'll get a reservation time to do that in-store stuff.

I asked that on here last night and was informed that was wrong about only being able to set it up in store?
There is now a link in the iOS Apple Store app to join up but you obviously can't complete it until pre-orders go live. I suspect you will still need to collect in store with your ID and bank details.

Even the upgrade plan prices are horrible.

Apple have not made it easy this year...

I used to upgrade every two years so was set to do it last year but then the upgrade was just too expensive to justify when my 6+ was running well and the promise of a much bigger update this year.

Well the update has come and it's way out of my price range.

So now back to the drawing board...

My current 6+ is getting sluggish and that's probably because it's 64gb is full. So my options must be more than 64gb which is why price wise the X is out.

I would go for the 7+ (128gb) as I like the size and the camera but that doesn't qualify for the interest free finance so adds roughly £100 to the cost.

The 8+ (256gb) is an option as like the wireless and fast charge options and can get interest free credit but it's feels overpriced/more than I really want to pay and is heavier

So brings in the 7 or 8 as an option as lighter and a little bit cheaper but without as good a camera (which is also very important for me now on a phone) and having got so used to the bigger screen not sure how much I want to go the smaller model.

Will also have to take a look at other non-apple options but as I have ipad and macbook and thinking about watch would be reluctant to leave apple - but because of all of the above it's the first time it's becoming a realistic option!

You could go through Very if you want to finance the 7+
They do a 12 Month Buy now pay later 0% option on financing.

Though dependant if they give you enough credit - For example If they gave you a credit limit of £500 you may have to put £300 upfront to make the differnece

But If you're not alrteady a customer you could get 20% off! - Although this discount can be hit and miss, as it states in the terms it cant be used on Apple products but many last year and previous years have succesfully got 20% off Apple products no options.

---

On another note wonder if people will be able to score 20% off the iPhone X at Very for first credit order, which would make the price a lot more attractive especially the 64gb. I'm personally out of luck as I opened a credit account to get 20% last year for my last phone :(

yes my current 7+ on environment would get me 55% of what I paid for it 12 months ago. I'd say that would be higher for the X next year as the the demand will still be high. Will be more likely that a private sale would be the best way to go when it comes to it next year

How much do you think iPhone x will fetch next year for resale?
Around 50% in my opinion, so around £575 for the 256GB version. Just £1.57p a day depreciation if you want to look at it that way. Or £11 per week.

However, if they restore Touch ID on the 2018 model and get rid of that awful notch then I think this year's model will be viewed as a bit of a dinosaur and fetch even less on the second-hand market.

Peeps who did the iUP programme with the iPhone 7 last year, any chance of a quick run-down for how you did it, and how long it took you to get your phone?

I'm currently battling my brain between joining iUP and buying SIM-only outright from Apple with the chance of much earlier shipping dates.

Reserved an iPhone online at my local store, walked in and told them about my reservation. They then did a quick credit check, took the deposit and handed over my iPhone. Was very quick and easy! Hope that answers your question!

Really unsure what to do. I def will get a new Apple Watch as the difference to S2 is worth it.

As for the phone: I have a 7plus and I don't see why I should splash the cash for an iPhone 8 plus. It doesn't seem to be too much of an upgrade?!
I am however, tempted to go for the X later in October... Pretty steep but I love being an early adaptor :D

Heavily leaning towards an 8+, but am torn over storage- the 256 would no doubt be a future-proofed solution, but then I'm in X price territory...

If you look at the bottom of the picture it states Apple Upgrade programme is exclusively available at Apple Stores - i.e. you can't set it up online.

I get what you're saying but it then begs the question - why does the app then have a 'JOIN' button:

....and then when you click on it, it takes you the 'SELECT' page:

...that's exactly my point - I do think you can join via the app you will indeed have to go to the store to collect. Why else would there be a 'Join' button?!

I think it will reserve you one to complete in store.
