Let you reserve for pick up?

Agree completely - lots of people live nowhere near an Apple Store. The only options online incur 14.9% APR :-(

My closest Apple Store is 25 miles away and to go all the way there and back to potentially not get an iPhone despite pre-ordering is not my idea of a fun.

Tried before pre-ordered a 7+ on IUP went all the way there to be told sorry we have no more in stock but we do have the 7 instead which is "just as good sir" or "come back in a couple of days and try again" was the apple employee's stance.

I was well annoyed!

....the online IUP also won't let you sign up til Friday

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm currently on the iUP and just got an email off Apple telling me I can pre order on Friday at 8.01am to get an iPhone 8. It says you have to reserve online to upgrade in store.

Also says I can get the iPhone X if I'd prefer to wait...

Be interesting how many go for the iphone 8 and 8 plus...can't imagine it will sell that well.

Agreed, when they started introducing the 8 and the video came on it was a real disappointment, it looks like an iPhone 6!

In a way I'm glad they have done this, makes the decision easy for me, will stick with my jet black 7.

The X doesn't even look appealing to me, don't like the notch , don't like the shiny edges and don't like the price !

Hard to tell since it is only available in Apple Stores but I would have thought at least still available until the 15th or the 22nd. Also it is called 'iPhone Payments'

If you are going down this route there may not be a huge difference between the 7 and 8 per month in which case if I were you I'd get the 8+. I am currently paying £43.50 per month for my 256gb 7 plus and the 256gb 8 plus is £44 per month................though I appreciate the 7+ will be less since they dont have the 256gb model available.

At moment there's £180.00 difference between 769 for 128gb 7+ and 949 for 256gb+ - I'd be happy to have wireless charging and faster charging and increased memory would be nice but they are definitely not something I'd need/think worth an extra £180.

Where it gets interesting, as I have to do it by payments, is that if Apple no longer do interest free in store on IP7+ then it would add about £100 on the the IP7+ - and I think the new additions and extra memory would be worth £80 for me.

Also interesting is Very because if I can get 9 months interest free and 10% off as new customer then suddenly the IP8+ might look more attractive option again but then equally if Very drop the price of the Ip7+ the same as Apple then getting that for 692 as opposed to 854 might be best option.....

Will go to Apple Store after work tonight and see if they are still doing interest free on the 7+ and then can have an evening/day of overthinking as normal before Friday

I was sold on the X before the keynote, but now, I can't bring myself to pay a grand for a phone.

I can afford to, but can't bring myself to it.

I'm sure it'll be incredible, but still, £1,000 on a phone.

My iMac and first car was less than that.

I'm going for the iPhone 8 64GB.
Then when Apple release some new iPhones next year, then I'll probably sell the 8 and buy the X.
I'm sure I'll be able to get hold of a mint second hand one then for about £600.

I'll be more than happy with the beautiful, all glass, iPhone 8 for 12 months.

I find it better to think of the monthly cost than the total amount!! For example I bought my iPhone7+ for £919. Yesterday I could get a trade in for £480 which would mean that for 12 months it cost me £439/12= £36.58 per month. As it happens I purchased it on Apple Payments (interest free) and my settlement figure is currently £391 so it is also currently worth more than the balance of the loan.

My first 2 cars were prob the price of the 256gb X together!!

...everything is blimmin FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Am waiting for the X which is a lot more Fridays away!!

I've had a look at a few of the threads about the pros and cons and I've decided not to upgrade this year. Last September I got a 128gb black iPhone 7+ which was £819. I always buy outright from apple and don't use finance.

I don't want to go back to 64gb which means for the iPhone X the cost would be £1,149. For it to be £330 more than the phone I bought a year ago seems crazy to me. I don't care that much about the screen and don't care one teeny tiny jot about animated unicorns because I'm 45 not 15.

I don't see that the 8 is worth upgrading to from a 7. In the past I've always upgraded every other year.

So I'm keeping my 7+. This is no hardship as I think it's a great phone. I went with a plus for the camera and I'm happy with it.

My only 'don't know what to do' issue remaining is about my old iPhone 6 which my partner has now. The battery is getting a bit duff and it's whether or not to get that replaced, if so by apple or by a third party? He's too cheap to ever spend out on a new phone so I guess replacing it won't happen unless it properly breaks!

Anyway, for those who have decided to take the plunge I wish you luck in the order process!

for those who want to get the X, have you changed your mind about the colour? I was set on the Black though seeing more of the white/silver I rethink I'm changing my mind!

not seen many reviews of the two colours side to side from yesterday's preview

What time on Friday do the pre orders go live?
usually 8am

there were no surprises at this years keynote, the only thing that was a surprise was that there was no mention of the gold X

I know how nice would a gold band be around the X!!

Yep am now veering towards the white/silver but wish it was white/gold or black /gold! The removal of the white bezel is a great step I think.

Do remember that to take advantage of faster charging you’ll need to shell out £49 for the 29W charger and another £29 for the USB C to lightning cable.

They clearly wanted to retain Touch ID on the iPhone X but that entailed embedding it in the OLED screen which eventually they failed to achieve in the time available. My own view is that they will find a way soon and it will make a re-appearance next year, probably alongside Face ID.
Id be happy to see it return embedded in the screen but i also think it'll leave Apple with egg on their face. I mean how would they pitch it... "The new iPhone XI with face ID and touch ID again"o_O. So I'm not holding my breath.

I’ve currently got a 6s

Keeping going back and forth about which phone to upgrade to either the 8+ or the X

Bonus for me is I’ve got £200 free store credit which I’ll use to bring the price down, then selling my 6s even for £200 knocks £400 off the overall price for me

Decisions decisions...

...its weird that Apple's trade in website doesn't appear to work if you input an iPhone 7's details into it even though there are now genuine phones coming out that somebody with a 7 can upgrade to?!
[doublepost=1505315352][/doublepost]I am wondering if its worth the hassle though, of upgrading my 7 to the 8...

I'm currently paying for my 7 via Apple's PayPal Credit finance option, The balance left is £369. I could sign up to Apple IUP and start a new zero% finance option on the 8, and then I could just send my 7, to Envirofone, who have offered me £366 for it (price is locked in), which would then wipe out the balance of the Paypal credit.

I know the jump in specs from 7 to 8 are minimal however, this wold ensure I get a new iPhone every year, and seeing that I am currently paying around £30 a month for Paypal credit, its no different to the IUP, other than the slight increase in monthly payments (these are around £37 a month).

What would you do?!

I would trade in and do what you suggest. I don't think the specs upgrades are that minimal and it is a very modest increase in cost plus at very least you have a new phone with fresh battery etc..... Did you remember to use additional 5% code on envirofone this year? (EXTRA5). Also remember if you need it they often allow a 7 day extension to send in.

I am going to wipe out my apple payments (Barclay) finance with my trade in amount (though not sure what it will be come end of October) and take out new finance for the X.

Looks like to join the Programme you need to go instore. I'm already part of it, so it looks like I can upgrade online this year :) Happy days!

Not quite true. Upgrading will be by pre-ordering a phone for in-store collection and you will have to go to store to do the actual upgrade.
