So I had a frustrating, annoying, but ultimately happy experience today.
Turned up at the Apple Store in Lakeside for my 10:00am pick up appointment for my iUP upgrade. Went through all the info as usual, signed, they pressed update, but I was declined.....
Now, this was a little odd, add I know my credit score is good, I own my own house, and had made 13 payments so I was eligible to upgrade. I called Barclays who made a couple of suggestions, because I used my passport for the initial application, but brought my driving licence for this upgrade and they did have a few problems locating my agreement. Went beck to the store, after a short wait they input everything again, I gave them my passport number (yes, I know it off by heart), they input it again but still declined.....
So back on the phone to Barclays who suggested I check with Experion. It turned out the info that I was giving Apple (which was 100% accurate) was very, very different to what Experion had and bore no relation to my actual details. The only way to change this was to write to them with proof of everything and then it should be OK. This obviously would be time consuming, but if that's what I've got to do, then that's what I've got to do.
I left and headed off home, decided just on the off chance to call EE as I had been due an upgrade with them for several months but want going to bother due to being in the iUP.
If I'd got the phone through the iUP I would be paying £64pm for the phone plus a £69 upfront fee, plus about £30 for my EE tariff, which included 30Gb per month. With EE, because I'd been with them for more years than I can remember, they charged me £40 upfront for the phone, plus £77 a month for the phone and 60Gb of data, with an option to upgrade every year rather than every two. That in itself is saving me £29 initially, plus £17 per month. Add onto that my settlement figure with Barclays is £340 and I've been quoted £430 for my iPhone 7 plus 256Gb.
Yes I've got to wait up to two weeks before I get the phone, but my original reservation was for the 18th anyway, so I'm happy with that for that saving.
Goodbye iUP....
