I have to say, for me personally, this has been the worst launch experience ever from Apple.

Since the iPhone 4 I've always been able to get an iPhone on launch day (or the day after), either by getting launch day delivery, or reserve & pickup the day after.

This time around, when pre-orders opened, I was ready at 08:01 with both my iPhone and Macbook, but when the website finally came online it was already 08:06 and 2-3 weeks delivery. Placed an order for a 256GB Silver then, for the 13th-20th slot.

Yesterday, on launch day, I went to Apple Covent Garden and Regent Street, and at both stores, staff turned me away as they had no walk-in stock, and told me to check the website at 06:00 today.

Today, I was ready before 06:00, but the website and didn't work until 06:03, and then there were no 256GB Silver in stock anywhere in London.

Meanwhile, US stores show plenty of availability, and delivery dates are being brought forward. Considering how important the UK market is to Apple, this time around, it seems as if they dont care at all.

The most frustrating part of this is the lack of transparency around delivery dates - Apple is a company that can co-ordinate millions of iPhones to be in certain stores around the world on a given day, yet they can only be precise to a 7 day period as to when I will get my iPhone? In a world with Amazon Prime, this doesn't cut it. They should at the very least be able to give a specific day. It is unacceptable that I have to be ready to suddenly take a day off work with little/no notice.

Anyway, to all of you who were lucky enough to receive your iPhones, enjoy them! And best of luck to all of those still awaiting delivery.

I truly feel your pain.

I'm in the same delivery camp.

I have DPD delivering a phone to me on Monday which I don't need now. Is it easier and quicker to just decline it and have them return it?

I’m curious why you wouldn’t want to buy from John Lewis? 2 year guarantee, around 4500 Avios if you click through the Avios eStore, and Apple will still treat you like one of their customers if you have issues. That said, it’ll be a long time before I ever shop with John Lewis after this fiasco, despite having spent c. £14K there in the last 5 years!

Although a regular JL customer, I just prefer to buy all things :apple: from :apple:. Besides ‘am not in a rush to pull the plug on my 7+ just yet. I upgrade my iPhones yearly hence just the 1yr :apple: warranty will suffice. The deal is sealed on the X, so it comes when it comes :)

Just been reading a few threads from the US, it looks to me as if they've got stock coming out of there ears for purchase right now.....

This makes me so sad! Sat in the 24th-4th dec line. I almost snagged on at JL yesterday went trough to payment and my bank fraud checked my card and cancelled the transaction. I was so mad!! I’m so sad!

A little bit late...

My new iPhone X 256GB SG was delivered to me yesterday at 12:30 PM.

First impressions of the device, was "wtf, this is beautiful", along with the fact it seems much heavier than my previous device, the iP7.

I set the phone up, in seamless apple style, this was an easy and efficient process.

Face ID is good. I wouldn't say brilliant. It has worked for me 95% of the time, on a few occasions the device has not recognised my face, and I have had to type in my pin. For me this isn't good enough, Touch ID worked flawlessly. I must admit though I do like the simplicity of unlocking with my face.

Everything about it signifies quality which is what I expected at the price point. The screen is f****ing beautiful, videos look crisp, and OLED truly does make a difference.

I have seen a few negative posts re: the notch, I don't mind it, I have honestly hardly noticed it.

The only thing that really annoys me at the moment is the amount of applications which do not support the new screen size, I know it's early days, it reminds me of when I first got my iPhone 5.

Following on from that, The Barclays or NatWest banking apps are not working for me, is this the same for anyone else?

Same problem! They told me that's because my bank address doesn't match delivery address!

Mines 13th - 20th, when I was preordering it, it said 3rd November but then changed after I paid which was pretty annoying.

You end up checking online throughout the day and getting up early to try and get a reservation when really the chances of getting one without waiting for your preorder to come in are slim

I was same, 3rd before check out, 13-20th after check out :(

Only AT&T and only 2 stores left in NYC.

Re. Natwest, delete and reinstall it. Worked for me after that, and Face ID works on it.

Failed credit check for iUP programme this morning so no iPhone for me. Absolutely furious...been on the iUP for 12 months and never missed a payment. When I took out the loan with Barclays I was a student with an income of zilch and got passed immediately...now I'm in full time employment with a decent income and no other finance arrangements they won't approve me. Fuming.

Have gone for a contract with Three anyway...estimated delivery 17th November. Anyone else waiting/got a handset from Three? Did it ship as per their 'estimated DD' or earlier/later?

Thats ridiculous. It's almost like they were willing to take a risk on you as a student to potentially make money with late payment charges and now you have a more substantial income they can't do that.

Yep that's banks for you...Credit checks make absolutely zero sense to me. My credit score which I've just checked is 965/999 (Excellent) yet they couldn't approve me for a payment plan that was £18 more per month than I'm paying now! Rant over, apologies!

For those that have paid £139 to John Lewis for the 'added care' Have you seen the terms?

1. Period of insurance
Start date
Cover starts on the date shown on your confirmation schedule

End date
All cover under this policy ends on the earliest of:
  • The date we replace your mobile phone or you receive an alternative settlement (this does not apply where you receive a refurbished handset); or
  • The date you cancel the insurance; or
  • The expiry date shown on your confirmation schedule
Is that suggesting that it only covers one replacement phone (unless its a refurb) ??

Quite an expensive insurance policy if so.

Rob

Love how Argos are so apologetic for their royal f*** up, not!
I lost the rag with their varied and unhelpful responses yesterday, Andes up saying something about seeing them next Tuesday and they said they were reporting me for my use of language on social media. (Was via fb messenger chat) I replied saying that’s fine I’ll be reporting you for theft, taking my money when they have nothing to sell. Total deflated now.

Bizarre. Have you missed any payments or had any changes to your history in the past year?

Hurrah! UK Mail has finally came through at last! A day late but it was totally worth all the drama.
Simply I’m blown away. This phone has an amazing premium feel to it. Coming from the iPhone 7 Plus, I’m loving the smaller size yet gaining a larger screen. The oled display is stunning, so vibrant. Happy camper here. Good luck to everybody waiting on their iPhones X’s and the lucky ones that have it, enjoy it!

Oh how wrong you are! They disappointed me 100% yesterday - from their website crumbling to the misinformation by their call centre, and the uncaring attitude of their customer services. They were a absolute shambles in their processes leaving me without an X at any point in the foreseeable. First time I’ve not had the new phone on launch day in 9 years

I find both John Lewis and Waitrose have illusions of grandeur and are well up themselves. Not keen on either.

wow that's really awful to hear, I thought when you did the upgrade they perform only a soft credit check on your file. I took out the IUP last year and was going to upgrade to the X but when it got delayed didn't want to have to make the 2 additional payments then hand it back it in.
