You can't opt out, that's not the iPhone upgrade programme.

That's the iphone payments which is still 0% but you don't have to get Apple care and you do not get the option to
Upgrade every year

Ah right. My misunderstanding :(

I assumed it was still the program as it’s on the page :/

Not about one handed use but I found it really cumbersome in public. I missed the form factor of the 6-8. The x truly delivers the screen and form factor for me which is why for me it’s a no brainer.

You found it cumbersome. Blimey it's hardly that massive.

Look back on lasts years thread. Am sure they locked to the first carrier. I think John Lewis purchased iPhones do the same but happy to be corrected if am wrong.

No, phone remains unlocked. Apple state on the IUP page "Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any carrier that provides service for iPhone."

It definitely is for me in public and I’m sure a lot of people will either agree and disagree with me but I lived with it for a year and the 7 is the perfect size. I don’t want to be walking around with a phablet and the bezels on the plus are absurd and there’s no way side tracking around that in 2017.

John Lewis sells completely unlocked devices.
Well they did last year and the years before and i don't think this has changed.

Its not exactly opting out of AppleCare it's a slightly different plan and you keep the phone rather than trade in. Go to

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

And then where it says "You can also choose to make low monthly payments without AppleCare+.Learn more about iPhone Payments" click there to see

Ahh, right - thanks for that. This must be what I did last year but mine was the online version, hence the 14% interest!! The iPhone Payments option is actually quite a good deal, as it's cheaper a month. The only caveat is that when next year's phones are released, you're kinda stuck still paying for the previous year's phones!

I guess the Plus models are not 'one handed' devices then?! ....and how do you manage to fit the Plus models into your trouser pockets?! I actually find my 7, a little too big when sitting down and wearing denim jeans -it just about fits in my pocket!!!!!!
I use my 7+ one-handed a lot of the time. The Apple Silicone case, after about a week (the first week it always tries to slide out of your hand) adds a lot of grip. I can comfortably manoeuvre my hand up and down the device to select the top UI elements even without using Reachability, by using my four fingers as a sort of tilting mechanism.

If you have, or can get, a 0% interest free credit card, then its more flexible I guess.

For those concerned about losing out on money from the buyback sites whilst having to wait for the X..... a couple of things to consider.....

If you currently have a 7/7+ - whilst prices will undoubtedly drop, given then the prices of them new have only dropped by £50, and the 8s are more than 7s were last year - this should limit any drop

If you are on one of the Apple payment plans or O2 refresh - by the time you get the X you will have made 1 if not 2 more payments, which should more than compensate for any reduction in sale price.

I have smaller hands than the typical male and I've no issues with my iPhone 6 Plus size. For the first week it felt like I was whipping out a monster from my pocket, but I soon got used to it I could never go back to anything smaller. When the iPhone 6 was launched, I bought both the standard 6 and 6 Plus and test drove both. The standard size did feel a lot more comfortable and portable in the hand, but the screen size and enhanced user experience of the Plus trumped it for me, so I returned the standard size iPhone 6 and kept the 6 Plus.

Back then when the iPhone 6 was launched, the Plus variant was the first ever large-screen iPhone and I felt self-conscious getting my phone out in public. But these days large screen phones are the norm. Heck, I'm looking to upgrade to the Note 8 soon and that has an even bigger screen than iPhone X. I'm pretty sure you'll get over that feeling once you get used to the size, but I can appreciate that the smaller sized versions are both practical and ergonomic.

For me - the iPhone X is essentially a new first-gen Apple product. As with most first gen Apple products - there are often a few things overlooked which Apple will need to address (like the original iPhone, iPad etc).

By all means if you are lucky enough to be able to afford the X and are able to afford to replace it in a year, however sadly for me - it'll be the iPhone 8 that replaces my iPhone 6

No you can settle the plan early. I am going to pay off last years finance with trade in money. As stated before I can currently get £480 on a trade in and my Barclays iPhone Payments finance current settlement is £391. Except am waiting for an X so trade in will likely be closer to £390 (although settlement will also drop by at least £43.50).

So just to clarify something - using the Apple Store app on my iPhone 7 and clicking the 'Join' button on the IUP page, and then clicking the 'Select device ' button will reserve the chosen device at my local store.

Once I go to collect, it is then that I get to decide if I want to go down the route of the IUP or iPhone Payments instead?!

Will there be official in depth reviews before official release or just the hands on types?
I'm sure in the past the reviews have gone online after the pre-orders started but before the official launch... so maybe we will see some proper reviews middle of next week. I don't know if they will be for the 8 and 8+ or for the X as well! Will have to wait and see.

this probably doesn't help people who are trying to make a call on whether to pre-order and 8 or get an X. In that scenario you can always pre-order the 8, and if the reviews for the X come in and change you change your mind, you can cancel the pre-order or refund the phone inside the first 14 days.

So in that case, there really is no point in choosing the IUP. I can just go via the iPhone Payments route (which is cheaper a month for the 8Plus than the 8 is on the IUP!). I can then trade it in and pay off the balance of the credit , like I'm gonna do this time around!

i just received my email update from Barclays giving me my loan details and outstanding loan amount on IUP - all required to upgrade in store

Pretty much set on iUP for the X now. Not yet set on capacity.

My only concern is the need to book a store appointment and how much further that will push me down the shipping queue. I really enjoy launch-day delivery hype on here and I'll probably miss that by a good few weeks at best! Especially since my nearest stores are all in central London where the appointments will be chock-a-block.

Like seriously, how is it gonna work?
- Pre-order day: Reserve iUP appointment and pray all the London slots aren't instantly taken up.
- Launch day: Go to Apple Store (if lucky) and they say 'Okay, all done, but as there were a million fully-paid pre-orders before you came to the store, unfortunately your new iPhone X is 1-2 months away!
