another potential benefit of the iPhone payment option is that you could potentially sell your phone in advance of next years release, this maximising any sale price offered, pay off your finance and then be ready to start again for the next pre-order!

you would need a device in the interim to tide you over :D

When will the X be in apple stores for display? I'd like to see it in person before I decide fully

Pretty much set on iUP for the X now. Not yet set on capacity.

My only concern is the need to book a store appointment and how much further that will push me down the shipping queue. I really enjoy launch-day delivery hype on here and I'll probably miss that by a good few weeks at best! Especially since my nearest stores are all in central London where the appointments will be chock-a-block.

Like seriously, how is it gonna work?
- Pre-order day: Reserve iUP appointment and pray all the London slots aren't instantly taken up.
- Launch day: Go to Apple Store (if lucky) and they say 'Okay, all done, but as there were a million fully-paid pre-orders before you came to the store, unfortunately your new iPhone X is 1-2 months away!

Last year was a shambles for the IUP in the UK. On the morning of pre orders, the IUP part of the site didn't come up for about 10 mins by that time those who were paying outright from apple cleaned out the stock. By the time IUP went up most models were out of stock with no option to even get a time slot just a simple check back at 6am in 48 hrs. This was for the 7+ model.

I wrote a long letter to the head of the UK Apple dept (i might have also cc'd in Cook) to say how bad it was handled. I managed to get one about a week and a half later and a free leather case from Apple

On Release day. I think for the Apple watch they allowed you to book in 30 mins slots to try them on before hand but that could have also been release day too

It definitely is for me in public and I’m sure a lot of people will either agree and disagree with me but I lived with it for a year and the 7 is the perfect size. I don’t want to be walking around with a phablet and the bezels on the plus are absurd and there’s no way side tracking around that in 2017.

I just find a lot of phones too small & fiddly to use.

Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus hands-on review: A beautiful consolation prize

But while the iPhone X grabs the limelight with features like FaceID and ' Animojis ', the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are the Apple devices most likely to end up in people's pockets over the next year.

So my Apps that use TouchID, banks, utilities and various others, wonder how long they'll take to adopt Face ID or if they even will? Edging towards iPhone X 64Gb Black, god knows when it'll arrive mind....

Probably not until November.

I thought the 8/8 plus were a reasonably solid upgrade, obviously they didn't warrant the price bump but that typical Apple.

I think the 8 price bump was because 32gb was withdrawn. Wouldn't surprise me if we see a 32gb one next year that's what they have just done with the gloss back 7. Madness!

Always buy my phones new directly from Apple and must be in the minoroty of not needing masses of space. I have 40gb free on my 64gb 6s.

I'm also not prepared to spend more than £650 on a phone. I don't care what it looks like or does.

So, whatever storage the base model has of the 7s is what I'll be going for.

Same here can't be clamouring to buy the next best thing. A grand for a phone. Madness

Probably ages as I can't see them being that keen on it a security alternative.

I am just pondering over whether I need yet another phone (of course I don't) but I know I will get one anyway!

Hoping that there is some sort of pricing comes out from the carriers so I know what to do in advance but they will probably leave everything right until the end of October or launch date to release their pricing which limits what decisions I can make in order to snag a X.

Ah yes probably. Yeah so, didn't think that the 8 and 8 plus were that bad tbh. If anything I was a bit underwhelmed by the iPhone X given the price.

I think there is going to be a lot of people that talk themselves into accepting the expense of the X model and then find that they can't get hold of one

I'm going to upgrade my 6 to the 8+ on the IUP and see what they bring out next year. Don't really want to spend a grand on the X and I'm not really a fan of the screen design with the notch.

Hi! I live in Australia but will be landing in the UK on the 4th of November for a holiday. I'm looking at buyingth iPhone X I've calculated that, conversion included, it's cheaper for me to buy this in the UK (so long as I get the tax back at the airport). How would I go about getting one on pre-order from Australia and sent to my grandma's place so when I arrive it's there. Would a VPN on my laptop work to get to the UK Apple Store for pre-order or nah? Any tips would be great!

Sure a vpn should work. But also, from a laptop using a web browser you should be able to just switch to Apple's UK site. There's a link at the bottom of the page to choose other regions I think.

Try it out tomorrow - go through the motion of pre-ordering a 8 - see if you can get as far as the bit of the checkout.
(Although, wait until after the rush so you don't stop someone who actually wants an 8 getting in for the initial allocation)
If it doesn't work you've then got time to get a vpn set up.

Just from www.apple.com/uk

Remember that if you use your credit card and buy in GBP (£) you will have to be the credit card foreign transaction fee and you won’t get the most competitive fx rate converting Pounds to Dollars.

Also depending on how long you are in the UK for, if, as expected the stock is limited, you may not be able to get one for launch day
