Still umming and ahhing here

Having discovered I couldn't get the interest free credit on the ip7+ now was going to go for the ip8+ with 256gb but how ever much I try and justify it 949 for a phone just feels too much. All the talk of the X being a £1000 phone - well the ip8+ with 256gb is not much less and for what ultimately isn't a massive improvement over the 7+.

Thinking about going the refurbished route - has anyone had experience of buying from envirofone rather than selling - can pick up a refurbished from them for 128gb ip7+ for 529 or 256gb for 599

I currently have a 7 32GB that I got on release day last September on the iPhone payments plan (i.e. no Apple Care). My payments should be complete in January as I traded in my old 6 and used the money to reduce the term down from the 20 months. I am torn between the 8+ and the X. Tempted to wait until January, but then will my 7 have depreciated much by then? Currently being quoted about £340 to £350 on various websites. Unfortunately I don't have an old phone I can use in the interim. Also, would give me a chance to try out both phones. However, still tempted to go for the upgrade 8+ when pre-orders open tomorrow!

....I wonder if there will be crazy queues outside local Apple Stores, come tomorrow morning?

I know London's Regent Street store will no doubt have ridiculous queues, but I'm wondering if it will be the same at local stores?! I remember queueing for the iPhone 4 at the Kingston store, back in the day - the queues there were ridiculous!!!

....and, if we pre-order tomorrow, why would we even have to queue seeing that our phone will be reserved til we go to collect?!

Finally - anyone think that by pre-ordering tomorrow, will we actually have to collect on release day on the 22nd? i.e I'm pre-ordering tomorrow morning but given the chance that I don;t make it to Bromley on the Friday 22nd, will they hold my phone til the Saturday or Sunday?

I was wondering about the exact same thing, still deciding whether I should pre order and do a Pick Up on launch day or just reserve online next week, then walk in to pay. Can you even do a pick up at a Store if you Pre Order tomorrow?

About Apple holding the phone for few days, I'm sure they would, at least for 3 days, maybe you could call and ask the store itself.

The X is a £1000 phone for the 64GB version.... it's a £1149 phone for the 256GB.
The price difference between the X and 8 Plus is £200.

...same here!!

Envirofone offered me £366 (with discount), for my iPhone 7 32gb - which is almost enough (£20 short!!) to pay off the finance on my 7 from last year's PayPal Credit option.

...well that's the only way to get a new iPhone using iPhone Payments/iPhone Upgrade Program - you reserve tomorrow and collect in store.

These are the only 2 links I know of:

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-8/4.7-inch-display-64gb-space-grey#00,12,20

....which seems to be if you want to buy the phone outright; and,

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

....which is the IUP link, which I'm hoping will have a live 'Join' button tomorrow morning, in order to reserve the phoe and opt for iPhone Payments when one goes to collect.

These are my backup links however, as at 8am tomorrow morning, I'll be commuting to work, so I'll really just be hammering the app to try my luck. If I don't manage to get one on the app and by the time I actually get to my desk in the office (around 8:30), it'll have to the links posted above....!!

I'm hoping the reserved phones will be able to be picked up after Friday 22nd - will be better for me to pick up on Sunday 24th, if I don't make it to Bromley on that Friday...!!

Yes i think I was using the first link instead of the second last year and by the time I realised (about 10 mins) delivery dates had slipped big time - eps since I was trying to get a Jet Black +. Am hoping to order a S3 watch tomorrow so I'll be on the app at 8.01 too!

Am sure I reserved for IUP but changed to iP instore - nothing actually processed before you arrive anyway. It's literally a reservation of stock. However I seem to recall that you had to pick up on the launch Friday (no other options) or wait until reservations opened again the following day and hope for the best.

From past experiences I don't believe the reality will match your assumption.

We've not had a biometric transition before?

In swift, to perform authentication, code looks like this (and it works with both Face ID and Touch ID)

Code:
let context = LAContext()
let reasonString = "Please identify yourself"
context.evaluatePolicy(.deviceOwnerAuthenticationWithBiometrics, localizedReason: reasonString)

I'm having a real dilemma like many here

Currently on a £15 SIM only with 20gb data giving me no need to try and change carrier, and I like the flexibility of buying direct from Apple

Got an iPhone 7 128GB on the IUP, paying £38.45 per month, I've used 70GB of the capacity but could easily clear 20GB or so off that with stuff I don't actually need on the phone.

Option 1 - Clear the storage, get the 64GB X and increase my payments to £56.45 per month
Pros - Shiny new X, form factor the ideal size, that beautiful screen
Cons - lose capacity, pay £18 a month for the privilege, not sure about FaceID, wait till November

Option 2 - Get the 256GB 8+ paying £51.45
Pros - Bigger screen, new phone but not shelling out as much more, keep my capacity as I like it
Cons - Its not the X, my hands aren't the biggest

Option 3 - Stay with the iPhone 7
Pros - Cheapest option, might buy the EarPods which I've been considering for ages
Cons - I like shiny new things, and what was the point of being on the IUP when I could have just bought it a year ago

Arghh!!

If you go to the iPhone Upgrade page on the Apple website it confirms that you can pre-order the iPhone 8 on Friday for collection from a store on the 22nd. This is the same as last year.

Thanks for this. I’m after an iPhone X. Thankfully same rules apply - I’ve since had an email from Apple IUP advising me that at pre-order stage (iPhone X) on 27/10, if I’m quick enough I should be able to pre-order one for collection in store. Big emphasise on if I’m quick enough, as last year it was impossible to order a 128gb JB 7+.

He said iPhone X mate. For the X you will have to wait long to Nov which means you will most likely paying an extra 2 installements before handing your 7 back to Apple. Best advice would be to pay off the remaining months to Apple/Barclays and restart the IUP come Nov

Apparently I owe £400. By November, I’ll owe roughly £300. You may be right. It may be better to start again, or just suffer the loss of around £100.

The price difference between the 8Plus and the 64GB X is so close! If it were me I know that I'd regret not going for the X.

going to be in Japan at easter next year. If I can hang on that long, the X is 'only' £750 there. But I have no iphone now - gave it to my son for his birthday anticipating the new iphone (but not anticipating £1000)

What takes up most your storage? If it’s photos and videos you can use the 64gb and the bulk of photos and videos get pushed to iCloud. Might have to pay a little more for that but peanuts compared to a bigger capacity iPhone.

....I've just checked the storage on my 32gb iPhone 7 and I still have 11gb of space left, so the 64gb iPhone Plus will be ample for me.
[doublepost=1505399046][/doublepost]...weirdly, this link has no details of the iPhone Plus?!

...clicking on iPhone takes you to the iPhone 8, but not to an iPhone 8 Plus page?!

EDIT - THIS is the correct link:

I am getting screwed because of my obsession of not deleting the thousands of photos I take!!

I know most are waiting for the iphone x but anybody surprised there have been no prices yet for the iphone 8 and 8 plus for any of the UK carriers?

You would think they would have something out

Same with EE with the Apple Watch series 3...wonder why there is no pricing yet.

No surprise at all. Nearly all previous pre orders the pricing has come out in the morning or a little before the pre sales kick off at 8am

..Carriers don't tend to release pricing til pre-order morning. Every carrier is waiting to see what the other is gonna do so obviously, nobody wants to be first to show their hands!

I'm just glad I have a sim only plan with EE so this is the ONLY year I'm not actually chasing a carrier to upgrade - thank god!!
