Still umming and ahhing here

Having discovered I couldn't get the interest free credit on the ip7+ now was going to go for the ip8+ with 256gb but how ever much I try and justify it 949 for a phone just feels too much. All the talk of the X being a £1000 phone - well the ip8+ with 256gb is not much less and for what ultimately isn't a massive improvement over the 7+.

Thinking about going the refurbished route - has anyone had experience of buying from envirofone rather than selling - can pick up a refurbished from them for 128gb ip7+ for 529 or 256gb for 599

No just of selling to them. Am not sure what refurbishment really means but you do get new USB cable, earphones and that all important 12 month warranty......

I'm having a real dilemma like many here

Currently on a £15 SIM only with 20gb data giving me no need to try and change carrier, and I like the flexibility of buying direct from Apple

Got an iPhone 7 128GB on the IUP, paying £38.45 per month, I've used 70GB of the capacity but could easily clear 20GB or so off that with stuff I don't actually need on the phone.

Option 1 - Clear the storage, get the 64GB X and increase my payments to £56.45 per month
Pros - Shiny new X, form factor the ideal size, that beautiful screen
Cons - lose capacity, pay £18 a month for the privilege, not sure about FaceID, wait till November

Option 2 - Get the 256GB 8+ paying £51.45
Pros - Bigger screen, new phone but not shelling out as much more, keep my capacity as I like it
Cons - Its not the X, my hands aren't the biggest

Option 3 - Stay with the iPhone 7
Pros - Cheapest option, might buy the EarPods which I've been considering for ages
Cons - I like shiny new things, and what was the point of being on the IUP when I could have just bought it a year ago

Arghh!!

Or

Option 4 - Trade in the 7 and settle the IUP finance, get the 256GB X on new iPhone Payment plan (i.e. without Applecare) and increase my payments to £54.00 per month
Pros - Shiny new X, form factor the ideal size, that beautiful screen, no storage worries,
Cons - pay £15.55 a month for the privilege, not sure about FaceID, wait till November, need to ensure you have insurance elsewhere if you cannot afford to repair your X

or

Option 5 - as per 4 but get the 64gbX on IP plan for £46.50 a month - an increase of £8.05 per month.

You might not want to trade in the phone with Apple though............

Definitely considered this, but I would get Applecare regardless and having the easy upgrade option with Apple works well for me

Another question someone may know the answer to ..

If you upgrade under the IUP, and then change your mind, does the 14 day return policy still apply? I'd imagine the old phone is long gone

Or Option 6 - Get the iPhone 8 Plus (64gb) on the iPhone Payments Plan, which is CHEAPER than the IUP. IPP is only £36.50 a month when compared to £43.95 on the IUP.

Too many options (I know which one I'm choosing BTW!)!!!!

...weirdly, this link has no details of the iPhone Plus?!

The iPhone 8 link takes you to another page with both sizes listed in the options.

You are over thinking this. Just make your mind up what you want and order it in the morning. :D

As per the T&Cs

Return of New, Upgraded iPhone After Exercising Upgrade Option. Should you exercise the Upgrade Option and subsequently return your new, upgraded iPhone under the terms of Apple’s Sales and Refunds Policy, the Financed iPhone that you traded in will not be returned to you and the New Instalment Loan associated with your new, upgraded iPhone will be terminated.

Just as I think about going for the X I have a doubt and again think about getting the 8 Plus instead

Can’t make my mind up

Try getting an 8+ for release day or close to it. You then have 14 days to try it out and make your mind up. If you don’t like it, return it in that time and you’ll still be ready for the X pre orders

...other than the price factor, I think the X would get on my nerves, without the Home button!! And then, next year when the next iPhone gets released WITH a Home button, we'll end up with the X with no Home button and it will just look plain weird!!

Just can’t see Apple back tracking. Next years flagship iPhone will not have a home button or Touch ID.

...hmm, I dunno, I tend to disagree!

The X is a one off purely because of the ten year anniversary thing.

Next years phones will probably follow suit from the iPhone 8....but then again, who knows?!?!!!

All next years phones will be OLED. There will just be 2 .... a XI and an XI Plus.

Rewatch the keynote. It’s the future evolution of the iPhone, it’s the direction of travel the company will continue to follow. No way they will fall back on the old form factor

I'm getting the 8 Plus. It's got all the cool things from the X that work, and none of the "Gen 1" bits that don't :)

That’s the biggest ‘risk’ in my mind. 1st gen Touch ID was hit an miss and took a few iterations to get right. But it’s the downside of being an early adopter. Risk I’ll happily live with.

That's cool dude, and if it wasn't a £200 risk I'd be there too. But my gut feeling is this is a "stop-gap" phone, a bit like the Mac Pro. Except they will update it next year lol

According to their website

Your Apple iPhone 7 Plus will come in a secure and padded box, and will include the following FREE items:

  • USB cable - For connecting to a computer and charging
  • Headphones – Listen to your favourite tunes
We will ensure your item is quality checked, cleaned and ready to use. All you need to do is put in your SIM card and give it a full charge.

Also comes with 30 Day return and 12 month warranty.

Might not have a plug but that's not an issue as have one with my current phone. Might not be official apple headphones but never use those only my own anyway and guess might not have the lighting to 3.5mm adapter but I think I can mange the £9 cost on that......

I think that's the way I'm going. Just got to check a similar sized calculator in my the pockets of my jeans before making my mind up. :D

Assuming you don't have a Plus currently? The other thing that's steering me to the Plus is that I like the aspect ratio of the screen. The X feels like going from the 4s to the 5

Less of a risk if you get in IUP and know you’ll hand it back in a year.

I need to run some numbers, I usually buy the phones outright but if the difference on I’ve paid after 11 months of IUP leaves me better off or close to me buying it outright and selling the phone next year might make IUP less hassle
