Wait what?

How did you manage that?

I was under the impression you couldn't put money upfront to reduce the monthly cost?

I pay £32.50 for my 7 128GB, which is fine by me.

But If i could put money upfront and reduce the monthly it could tempt me.

Did you go in and say you wanted to reduce monthly cost and term?

Thanks
I think it's because you have a loan amount and what I think happened is that the trade in was taken from the loan amount which say it was £32.50 a month, like you, then if there was £130 extra from the trade in it would take the term down by 4 months (that's my thinking)
[doublepost=1505410731][/doublepost]Hey guys, how's everyone doing? We all decided what we're getting yet?

Ahh yes you must be right, he traded in.
If you're right seems like you can only reduce it if you do tradeins, would be nice if they allowed you to say "I'll pay X amount upfront" now and allowed you to reduce the term and monthly cost.

I tried to check the value of my iPhone 7 on the website if I traded in and it told me £0 -_-
Do they not do iphone 7 tradeins yet.
I know i'll get more privately im just curious

Think im still just gonna keep my 7, everytime I try and spin it I just cant justify it for myself.

Im content with the £32.50 coming out, although I get my sim only free of charge at the moment, I dont really fancy £50-60 coming out a month for the handset alone.

But make sure ya'll enjoy your 8's and X's!

I think a slightly more flexible iUP would be a bit better ie limit the upfront to say 50% of the phone value.
I think because the 7 is technically the newest device atm, as the 8 isn't out yet, means that you can't trade it in yet

So my Apps that use TouchID, banks, utilities and various others, wonder how long they'll take to adopt Face ID or if they even will? Edging towards iPhone X 64Gb Black, god knows when it'll arrive mind....

Wont be anytime soon.

Probably ages as I can't see them being that keen on it a security alternative.

I believe the transition should be seamless, given that it’s the same Authentication framework

We've not had a biometric transition before?

In swift, to perform authentication, code looks like this (and it works with both Face ID and Touch ID)

Code:
let context = LAContext()
let reasonString = "Please identify yourself"
context.evaluatePolicy(.deviceOwnerAuthenticationWithBiometrics, localizedReason: reasonString)

The authentication framework isn't going to write the functionality into the app, or make it worthwhile for the dev to build that functionality specifically for a phone that hardly anybody owns.

Businesses like banks, who are almost certainly maintaining an Android app aswell, may well be using a cross platform development solution like Xamarin if not there is still a good chance they aren't using Swift.

Most importantly there is no API for FaceID, so atm it is going to be for unlocking the phone and Apple Pay and thats it. Another disadvantage of losing touchID.

Keep your iPhone 7 and save your money for next iPhone launch in 2018.
I currently paying £9 each month for my iPhone 6 sim only and £9 for my iPhone 6 plus
The galaxy s8 I pay £22 sim only unlimited data too. ( 3 sim deals for £40)
there is no way I'm paying £60 each plus on top another £20-30 on sim.

Looks like there is documentation for the requesting authentication with FaceID

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/localauthentication

“The Local Authentication framework provides facilities for requesting authentication from users with specified security policies.
For example, to request that the user authenticate using only Face ID or Touch ID you would use code such as this:”

Ok, I've got a 256GB 8 saved in my favourites, my credit card is set up with Apple Pay, I ordered a lightning to 3.5mm adapter on the app, paid with Apple Pay...what am I missing in prep? Am I likely to get my payment blocked £850 through Apple Pay, or should I just order via the website without using Apple Pay?

It seems that photo's and video's takes up 50% less space in IOS11 or the X..did anyone hear that too?

I could swear last year that some people had trouble using Apple Pay (I think it's fixed, but I aren't 100%) I think it might be slightly quicker through the app

Those already in the iUP can you post tomorrow how easy (or not) the process is via the app to reserve the upgrade in store. Hoping it will give me some good prep for Oct 27th. Last year was a bit of a mess, ended up lurking on here for the stock announcements.

To follow up my comments I have a couple of apps from big brands and they have only this year added Touch ID functionality to their apps, that's what I meant.

Putting the payment through with Apple Pay was fine, lots of people had issues when Apple went to charge the payment on dispatch as they were getting blocked. Might be resolved this year but didn’t impact preorders or delivery(as long as you get any blocks on your transaction sorted with the bank)

Yes that is correct. Forgot about it until I read about it yesterday soshooting video and taking photos wont take up as much space. Dont think it applies to music and films though.

Well, thats new. Wasn't up last night. Should be ok for anybody who is already using it as it seems there is even Obj C code. Banking apps would be brave to have this enabled from the word go though, not sure its suitable at all to be honest.

Any links to how that works?

Ah, thanks for clarifying for me, I just seem to recall something with apple pay, guess not :D

Yea, I get the same result - £0 for the iPhone 7. It seems Apple's website doesn't allow for trading in the iphone7?!

HOWEVER, try Envirofone - they offered me £366 for iPhone 7 32gb. That's a hell of a lot more than Apple's Trade in website would have given me, if it worked!!

I didn't reduce the monthly payment amount, but reduced the term as you can make payments over and above the monthly amounts.

I’ll have to check with our mobile devs at at work (yes I work for one of those banks) but my assumption has been the same. Not looked at the docs in any detail but if it’s implying it’s requesting any form of biometric the device supports it may work out the box. Did see an api for retrieving the authentication type so it actually might involve an app update to distinguish between Touch ID and FaceID.

But typically any decision around the security of the mobile apps needs thorough review and architectural approval before the developers were even allowed to code
