There’s nothing to choose between the two camera wise so that’s a false statement for a start.
Just do some research and look how the two compare in low light. I have viewed lots of iPhone X images and they tend toward muddiness in dark areas and the colour is exaggerated. Also there is a tendency to a yellow cast in some situations. I've found the white-balance of the Pixel 2 to be pretty much spot on. My Samsung Galaxy s8 had a similar warm cast in situations lit by artificial light. I've no axe to grind with Apple and I'm not a Pixel fanboy - I simply want the best phone for me. I agree the iPhone X camera is one of the best, no doubt about it, I just feel the Pixel 2 is slightly better. I'm not suggesting it's night and day but if I was going to spend another £400 on an iPhone X over the Pixel 2 I'd like to feel I was getting that much extra in my day to day usage.

I had the first Pixel, and I've been using Android since I switched over after the first iPhone 3G. It was a nice phone, but I had it for 10 months before I decided I'd had enough of android. Performance degradation over time (3 factory resets on the Pixel since December 16), poor battery life and the lens flare from the camera made be decide to sell it for £500 just before the Pixel 2 came out.

I imagine the Pixel 2 will also be a great phone, but the launch hasn't gone smoothly. I wouldn't go back to a Google phone until they sort out their QC issues. 'Pure' Android and first dibs on OS updates guaranteed for 2 years is all well and good, but if I want to throw it out of the window after 10 months it's time to make the switch back to iOS as I know it works.
Yes, I had the first generation Pixel and returned it because of that awful lens flare and halos. Unacceptable. The 2XL has had a few issues - very much exaggerated by some I might add - but I have the Pixel 2 (smaller version) which has a Samsung panel and as I confirmed with my own eyes, looks just as good as the iPhone X Samsung panel.

The battery life is amazing - I take the phone off charge at 7am and at bedtime (11pm) it's still showing over 50% and that's with usage throughout the day.

If anyone is in the Nottingham area, John Lewis have ‘a few’ silver 64GB in stock in store.

Hope that helps someone....

Anyone have any update from Argos?

Had a text saying can be delivered anytime between now and 24th by Yodel.

Not sure if Yodel will email or text or just turn up. Better if I know in advance if they were coming.

Oh well now that Apple delivery dates are down to 2-3 weeks seems that stocks are improving so a huge shipment could drop anytime soon!!

I reserved a phone on Saturday but had to cancel, the same thing on Monday, and now when I try and reserve it says limit per customer reached? I signed in with a different Apple ID and when I went to reserve it said the same thing.

I'm using the app. Any one know how to overcome this?

I have a reservation for a 256GB silver iPhone X for collection at Covent Garden Apple store which I will release at 14:30 sharp. Just a heads up for those in here..

Silver 64 at JL is not that hard to catch.
Seems to come weekly and last a fair couple of minutes on the site.
If you have notifications, that's an easy catch.

Thanks but I'm after a Silver 256.

No I have tried a few times, but every time when I got to the confirm they had gone.

Sadly that's been my experience too. Really frustrating.

I have been keeping and eye on stock via Apple Store app and various stock trackers. Silver 64gb seemed to come in and out of stock very quickly with John Lewis, really wanted Space Grey though. Been looking at i stock now and my nearest JL seemed to have stock, called them this morning, actually went through to a call centre, very nice lady said it looks like there is stock at that store but it can't be reserved, i will send the store a message and ask them to call you. Half hour later someone from the store called me to say they had reserved it for me until 18th Nov and gave me a reference number. Just been down to store, gave them my reference number, made the payment walked out with a 64GB Space Grey iPhone X.

I am upgrading from a 6 which has got a whole lot slower since latest IOS, bough the watch 2 weeks ago too, expensive month! The one thing i notice right out the box is the weight, heavier than my 6 but feels nice.

Good luck to all others trying to get one.

Looks like Argos have the Silver 256GB available in stock. It says delivery within 2 days however once you go through it all, it gives you the option to choose a day for delivery, including tomorrow!

I'm not doing it myself as I'm just gonna wait until my apple delivery 24-1 but interested to know if that Argos date really is correct.

Very much doubt it considering the experience of people on this thread over the last fortnight. However, you never know.

Can I ask those who bought from JL but also have AppleCare like me, if you are going to make a claim as such who would you go to? Apple or JL?

Contacted them today and was told anytime between now and 24th. They have no stock and its all on backorder!!

Also got told Apple are delivering it not them

Definitely a scam. They are baiting buyers with the delivery and then reneging on delivery day by blaming Apple. They also take payment fully in the knowledge that they can’t fulfil the deliveries which they then can’t refund immediately. I’ve made a formal complaint and also had a call from the Apple Exec office in Cork following up with me because… I’m an idiot and did it twice!

I'm glad I didn't do it then. I've got the Space Grey on order and that's the one I've always wanted so I was just being too impatient.
My final impatient move will come tomorrow/Friday as I know Carphone Warehouse are getting stock delivered to customers on 17th so I'm hoping even a couple will end up in my local to work store.
If not then I shall wait.
[doublepost=1510764928][/doublepost]Related but also unrelated question, how long after an Apple order changes to Preparing for Dispatch does the item then actually get dispatched?

Hello all. Just started using the istockcheck site and wanted a bit of guidance.

When I get a notification that stock becomes available where am I actually looking on the Apple website or Apple store app to move forward on this?

I ask ask Regent Street just got 256gb in space grey and silver and when I went to the iUP section it said no reservations can be done until 6am tomorrow, and when I just went to buy on the main store it showed unavailable for all stores in London.

Am I doing something wrong?

The site is checking the data which drives the display stock availability on this page, when you click "Pickup: Check Availability". I thought the iUP stock levels were the same; I could be wrong.

The stock is going so fast at the moment that sometimes it's vanished by the time you open up the Apple site. I will increase the frequency of the server's stock checking tonight.
[doublepost=1510767391][/doublepost]
Thanks. That seems to have worked.

How often does your page ping the apple servers? I had twitter notifications come through from the @rh_monitorUK twitter account for stock of a 256 space grey in one of the London stores this morning, but nothing on Pushbullet mobile app or google extension. I'm putting it down to it appearing and then being purchased in the period between your site refreshing.

Yep, it could well be that. It's currently checking every model and every store each minute. I did that out of cautiousness at being throttled by Apple's servers, but I'll take the risk and bump up the frequency tonight.

The best thing you can do is just order one from Apple for delivery. The waiting times are down to 2-3 weeks, and there will be much less stress and wasted time on your part.

I've know a few people who've got them for same day pickup using www.istockcheck.co.uk ... it can be done! I haven't managed it myself yet though!...

Remember help if you need to replace a broken screen or back. If you have a product fault you’ll have likely to go to the place you bought it so JL. I’m sure though in the first 12 months Apple would probably help you out if your phone developed a fault too. After 12 months you would need to use the benefit of the 2 year warranty to get a repair from JL. If you had got yours from Argos for example you wouldn’t have much joy getting Argos to help you after 12 months. This is where the burden of proof is on you to provide evidence that the fault was existing from the point or manufacture.

If you had bought from Apple, it would be an easier conversation. With JL you also have cover for the 2nd year. It would be the other retailers where it can get tricky.

So to stop waffling

Break the screen - use Apple care and got to Apple.

If your phone goes kaput - go to JL

Just for people still looking to trade in / recycle their phone I used O2 Recycle this year and happy to report that no issues.

Sent my phone of yesterday, it was signed for at 7.45am this morning and the money was in my bank before 5pm this evening. Happy days! Got £451 for my 256gb 7 Plus using a 10% extra code posted earlier in this thread. £304 to settle last years finance and £146 towards my X so all good.

As an aside I was interested to note that when I was inputting the address on Royal Mail to pay for the special delivery postage that many other 'recycle' companies came up at the same address including Envirofone who I normally use. There were in fact about 6 other trade in 'companies' at that address so they must been contracted out by O2 etc.

Anyone hope everyone getting the slightly delayed X's now!! Am really pleased with mine and definitely worth the wait.

How did your complaint reach Apple? Have Argos said anything about delivery to you?

Did you complain to Argos too?

Little or no stock added to Apple through the day today.

I’m sticking to my prediction of bigger movements tomorrow. Probably another poor show at 6am followed by movement later in the day - iUP and outright orders.

We’ll see.
