Just do some research and look how the two compare in low light. I have viewed lots of iPhone X images and they tend toward muddiness in dark areas and the colour is exaggerated. Also there is a tendency to a yellow cast in some situations. I've found the white-balance of the Pixel 2 to be pretty much spot on. My Samsung Galaxy s8 had a similar warm cast in situations lit by artificial light. I've no axe to grind with Apple and I'm not a Pixel fanboy - I simply want the best phone for me. I agree the iPhone X camera is one of the best, no doubt about it, I just feel the Pixel 2 is slightly better. I'm not suggesting it's night and day but if I was going to spend another £400 on an iPhone X over the Pixel 2 I'd like to feel I was getting that much extra in my day to day usage. There’s nothing to choose between the two camera wise so that’s a false statement for a start.

Yes, I had the first generation Pixel and returned it because of that awful lens flare and halos. Unacceptable. The 2XL has had a few issues - very much exaggerated by some I might add - but I have the Pixel 2 (smaller version) which has a Samsung panel and as I confirmed with my own eyes, looks just as good as the iPhone X Samsung panel.I had the first Pixel, and I've been using Android since I switched over after the first iPhone 3G. It was a nice phone, but I had it for 10 months before I decided I'd had enough of android. Performance degradation over time (3 factory resets on the Pixel since December 16), poor battery life and the lens flare from the camera made be decide to sell it for £500 just before the Pixel 2 came out.
I imagine the Pixel 2 will also be a great phone, but the launch hasn't gone smoothly. I wouldn't go back to a Google phone until they sort out their QC issues. 'Pure' Android and first dibs on OS updates guaranteed for 2 years is all well and good, but if I want to throw it out of the window after 10 months it's time to make the switch back to iOS as I know it works.
The battery life is amazing - I take the phone off charge at 7am and at bedtime (11pm) it's still showing over 50% and that's with usage throughout the day.
