Exactly my thinking my old mucka!

Honestly for me this has been the hardest and worst choices I've had to make for what iPhone to get. Sure I've went 8 Plus but I've got a week to sit and think on that which will wreck havoc in my mind. I've already been switching back and forth between 8 Plus and X since Tuesday.

It all comes down to:

If I get the 8 Plus, I know when the X releases I'll feel there's something better out there than my 8 Plus, in a smaller and more comfortable form factor with a better display and cameras.

If I wait for the X then I know there's several unknowns but at least the hardware is the best Apple make on a phone currently. But then the cost per month comes into question. Can I afford it? Yes. Do I want to pay that amount? No, I'd rather pay £13pm less. Is it worth an additional £13pm more for knowing I have the best iPhone available (aside from the unknowns which could turn out fine)? Maybe.

And then there's release date... is it worth the additional wait assuming we get it on Day 1? Maybe.

Thanks for that

Is there a time frame where you have to pick it up?

Yes, according to the confirmation email:

What if I’m late for my reservation?
Please arrive as close to your check-in window as possible. If you’re late, or if you miss your scheduled time, we may not be able to hold the model you reserved. That means you may have to make another reservation.

Wanted to grab a 256Gb 8+. Now that I've seen the offers o2 are offering it looks like I'm stuck with my 6s+ for another year (and then probably opt for a Xwhatever if its been refined).

o2 Refresh is ridiculously priced. Only available on huge unnecessary data plans. 20Gb plan, £119 upfront and £69 a month. Get in the sea!!

There's a non-o2 Refresh offer of £189 upfront, 1Gb data and £53 a month. Probably the most justifiable offer they have. It's important to point out, I can afford either one but can I justify paying for it? I'm not sure I can. I mean if I could I wouldn't be typing this, I'd be ordering it.

I think this a true reservation where you pay in store. Hence why they are saying if you don't arrive on time they might not be able to hold the phone.

If you pay in advance Apple will keep the phone for up to 28 days. You've paid for it. Therefore they can't sell it to someone else.

Who wants 1Gb of data. There's no point having a top of the range Smart phone and then being limited to 1GB of data.

For me it's the uncertainty. All the way through this last year, there have been reports from credible people that imply the X is full of compromises. The notch, the lack of TouchID under the glass, the lack of the Blush Gold colour etc etc. I'd rather not go down that route. I can afford the X, so price isn't the point. TBH, I feel they made the X less appealing by giving the 8 Plus 95% of the features. Imagine if the 8 Plus had less memory, less CPU cores, or the X came in 512GB, then that's a more compelling reason to go with the X. Besides, it's only a year til the XI, and TBH may not even see an X until the beginning of next year anyway!

it won't. Apple will try again and then only take full payment the they dispatch the phone, so if you are getting yours for next friday, then mid next week the full charge will be made.

Luckily there is now an option on the order page to retry the payment- should go through without issue now. Shipping date appears to still be Sep 22nd.

I bailed from O2 last year with the 7 Plus fiasco. I still have my refresh tariff of 30GB for £35 a month (£30 with loyalty discount). Got my phone with Apple Upgrade. I won't go back to O2 for the device.

Two and a half hours after pre-orders started and you can get pretty much order every model for release date. I'm not sure I recall that ever happening before!

Have to wonder if it's people holding out for the X, or if people are just unwilling to pay the high prices for the 8.

Me. I manage well with 1GB data. Would rather have the option of a cheaper monthly payment than paying more for data that I don't actually need!

Have pre-ordered the iPhone 8 64GB for pickup - via the iPhone upgrade plan.

- Coming from an iPhone 6, I am assuming (and hoping) this will be quite a significant upgrade. (Camera going for 8MP to a significantly better 12MP lens, force touch, big processor upgrade etc)

- if I get to the store, and want to pay in full or go for the iPhone payments option - can I do this instead of the upgrade plan?

I do like the iPhone X but I simply cannot justify paying £1k for a phone, no matter how nice. Plus I don't fully buy into Face ID yet. The upgrade from iPhone 6 to 8 will hopefully keep me satisfied until next year!

Or... stock levels are better this year?

It's one extreme to the other. Somewhere in the middle would have been grand or at least allow a bigger upfront payment.

Got my pre order in before 9am on EE site, went for the 64gb 8 Plus in Gold with the idea that I will be handing it to my Fiancé when the X comes out and will be just buying it outright. I will be selling my 256 7+ and her 64gb 6+ to help soften the blow :)

I'm getting the strong impression that there is a lot of stock of all models of the 8 and the 8Plus out there.

Even where shipping dates have slipped all models are available for local pickup (at least in my area - N.W. England).

Shouldn't have bothered getting up so early.

A part of me would love it if everyone just voted with their wallets and said no way to the prices after the big FU apple gave us with the exchange rate.
But I know that won't happen, because I'm going for the X on iUP... I think. Still trying to justify it to myself!

Be interesting to see if Apples QI fast charging requires their AirPower or certified devices, or if any cheaper alternative will work.

Ordered an 8 plus. Going from a 6 plus. So will be decent upgrade for me. The price of the x is crazy. Some monthly tarrifs released this morning £70-£80 a month. It will be nearly impossible to get one imo and delivery dates will slip back quickly probably till Christmas time and maybe into next year. As nice as it is I think the notch spoilers it and don't see why it was needed.

Maybe my idea of selling the 8 back at cost to people waiting for deliveries won't work well..

I could just keep it for a couple of weeks and then return it..Damn waiting for an X which is *best case* 7 weeks out with a crappy phone is horrible
