Went to the local store this morning, pre-ordered mine. Will pick it up at the store next friday

I can easily see monthly contracts, with a good amount of data, hitting the £100pm mark for the iPhone X

For perspective I'm currently paying £40pm for my 6S+ with 10GB of data (I got this about 8 months after release, when the iPhone 7 rumours were underwhelming)

Many on here, including myself, have reserved 'without paying'. I am NOT currently on IUP and yet I have indeed reserved without paying, for collection in-store.....

I did that last year and full payment was taken by Apple a couple of days before collection.

When reserving the phone, you are reserving to collect in-store.When you get to the store, you then sort out payment, by way of IUP or IP.

In any case, when viewing the Apple Store app on my phone, under 'My Orders', there are NO orders for an iPhone 8 Plus (which is what I have reserved). If I look under the 'My Reservations' section, it indeed displays my reservation, confirming that this is indeed a reservation ONLY, i.e. I won't get charged til I go to the store and arrange either IUP or IP.

Just catching up on this thread. I'm going to be pre-ordering the X, but just wanted to check, this morning how were iUP reservations handled? Was there a separate link for these?

Bank blocked my transaction . Spoken to them and have authorised it, but am not sure what I need to do with Apple. Really don't want to have my shipment date slip...

At the time of pre order? Did the pre order still go through or did you have to place another order?

Maybe my idea of selling the 8 back at cost to people waiting for deliveries won't work well..

I could just keep it for a couple of weeks and then return it..Damn waiting for an X which is *best case* 7 weeks out with a crappy phone is horrible

return after 14 days, and then buy a different one for 14 day, and repeat until the X arrives

On the app, there's a section on the front page specifically for IUP - go via that rather than the iPhone selctor

Yep, the same way they will take payment a couple of days before shipping pre-orders (which is what they do with all pre-orders)

I think he's getting confused between Pre-Orders to buy outright (where you'll be charged before shipping) and Pre-Orders to reserve and go and collect (where you won't be charged til you go to the store to choose IUP or IP).

Have a look at the Apple store app. The discover tab there’s a link to IUP. From there you can join, and then select the device. Screenies below

Just ordered an Apple leather case and Anker Qi charging pad from Amazon for only £4 more than the case normally costs.

Blimey, unless Apple has been seriously on it with stock levels this year, the iPhone 8 demand is way lower than I expected. I can still reserve a plus in any Apple Store local to me for next Friday

...although that 'Join' button, doesn't really 'join' you to the IUP (no details are entered to sign up to the program). It's just a formality step to take you to the next page where it confirms your reservation.

I didn't think the demand for the 8 would be as great this year given the X and the smaller changes from the 7. Take a look at the poll, looks like most will be going for the X 256gb! Apple creaming their customers knowing 64GB is no good, so people will pay for the larger phone.. me included!

Interesting that while the iPhone 8 256GB are showing 1-2 week delay for delivery, all the stores in the north (Eldon Sq, Metrocentre, Leeds etc) are showing pickup still available on 22nd. Stores will be busy on Friday.

I bailed from O2 last year with the 7 Plus fiasco. I still have my refresh tariff of 30GB for £35 a month (£30 with loyalty discount). Got my phone with Apple Upgrade. I won't go back to O2 for the device.

They've managed to dispatch my note 8 on time but they had no idea that they were doing when I spoke to them on the chat. They were saying a lot of nonsense!!!

Yes of course. Silly me.

Actually I think Apple changed their system last year to discourage people from placing unnecessary / speculative orders. That way the onus is on the person placing the order to pick it up and initiate a refund if they don't want it.

Either that or they made a mistake with my order, but I think you'll find that others had a similar experience.

Just a heads up but last year, people who reserved through the IUP page initially got a choice when they got to the store of how they could pay - cash, IP, IUP.
I reserved a 7+ a week or 2 after release through the IUP page and by then I could only have the phone through IUP, no other option and no phone for anyone failing the credit check. That was the Milton Keynes store (I think there was some variation between stores)
I presume it was so they made the extra out the applecare
