Will the wireless charging work through a good quality leather (Apple or Vaja) case and Apple silicon case?

If it's the same as other phones I had the thinner the case the better when it comes to charging, having one of those mammoth sized industrial cases would definitely not work.

Last year Apple were offering Belkin tempered protectors in-store. I got one fitted to my 7 Plus when I picked it up on iUP. It also meant they would replace it if they had to swap the handset out for a repair (that wasn't accidental damage).

They used a machine to fit it perfectly an it's on there to this day.

...oh right - I might ask them then, if they can do something similar?!

I have a 61w USB-C power adapter that came with my MacBook Pro. If I buy a USB-C to Lightening cable will I be able to use that to fast-charge the iPhone 8?

Just thought I am paying £10 a month for insurance for my phone, my wifes and my laptop may cancel that use IUP with Applecare+ and just dump the laptop onto my home insurance and at least that way I have a bit more peace of mind.

I would be paranoid as hell if I dropped it, scuffed it specially given the 1k price so would you guys say applecare+ is a must or not?

Remember Apple care does not cover you for theft or loss as your insurance would.

...although that 'Join' button, doesn't really 'join' you to the IUP (no details are entered to sign up to the program). It's just a formality step to take you to the next page where it confirms your reservation.

I’m ordering the X, ideally through the Upgrade Program, but had a try now with the 8 to see how it worked, but couldn’t actually do it...

Is this happening to anyone else?

Yes.

What's out ****ing rageous is that they advertise as "SIM Free & Unlocked"...

Really? I didn't know that. When I got my iPhone 5 replaced at the Apple Store he told me the replacement would also lock to the first sim.

check out the apple site.. it states you can leave it on (the leather case) and wirelessly charge

These Apple-designed cases fit snugly over the curves of your iPhone without adding bulk. They’re made from specially tanned and finished French leather, so the outside feels soft to the touch and develops a natural patina over time. The machined aluminium buttons match the finish of your leather case, while a microfibre lining inside helps protect your iPhone. And you can keep it on all the time, even when you’re charging wirelessly.

thats my take on things

You either pre-order and pay in full prior to delivery, or you can reserve a phone via the IUP page to pick up on launch day (but from my own experience and discussion on here last year they may insist that you purchase with a IUP plan)

Reservations for paying cash / IP go live on launch day

There's lots of confusion on here.....

The way I read things, is thus:

  • Pre-Orders (non IUp or IP) are made on the website/app. These are NOT collectible in store - they are shipped to your address. You are charged once the phone is shipped.
  • Pre-Order (IUP and IP) are made on the website/app. These ARE collectible in store - they are are NOT shipped and you are NOT charged beforehand for the phone. When you go to collect, you THEN decide if you want IUP or IP and pay accordingly (£69 up front + monthly cost every month.
It makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever, why Apple would charge you beforehand, the full price for the handset if you opt for IUP or IP. These programs are for spreading out the cost of the phone - why would they charge you full price before you go and collect???

I do agree if you buy it outright it should be unlocked.
..outright iPhones from Apple are unlocked.

...I was getting a similar error trying to do something else in the app this morning - try force closing and re-opening it again.

Definitely. This is a quote from an article in Tech Crunch:

"Like the iPad Pro before it, the new iPhones actually support faster charging rates than their provided charging dongles can provide; using Apple’s 29-watt USB-C charger (the one which ships with the MacBook) and a USB-C to Lighting cable will help you top up your device much faster. You can also use a 61 or 87-watt charger, if you happen to have one of those from the purchase of a new 13 or 15-inch MacBook Pro."

Ah good point that's a must as well, probably will end up paying for both then I reckon.

check you bank doesn't give you extras with your current account?

i pay £19 a month with natwest but that gives me mobile, world wide travel insurance and breakdown cover.

Just checked, order still sat at order placed... apple chat lady said it hadnt made it through to them yet as there had been a lot of orders.. how long should it take to move to order in progress?

your order is fine, you will get your phone when it states

If you existing customer you can choose a day. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm an existing customer. I tried to do a dummy iPhone 8 pick up but it just kept saying if you didn't collect by the specified time they'd release it. Might go a bit further and see what happens.
