Ultimate Thread: 4890 in Mac Pro

I Know tossing around kexts may get confusing, but in my last post I mentioned that playing Portal resulted in some bad frame rates, also I forgot to mention playing avi movies resulted in distortion.

I had another HD with 10.6.3 Kexts & patches applied that is working perfectly fine. I decided to copy'ed over those kexts into my 10.6.4 affected HD using Kext Helper, repaired permissions via Disk Utility & rebooted.

Now, Portal is running great as it was before & avi movies are playing without distortions. I have attached the kexts here to see if anyone else has any luck or if we can find out some differences.

I tried a lot to modify my original ROM 4890 but does not works ! and never happen and I flash my card with some modified downloaded from forum and I think it cause problem for some lose Benefits
plz somebody with Experience could do that, I will be thanks for help !:rolleyes:

My XFX is stable after 10 minutes. At startup I got artifacts or my Mac Pro is rebooting itself :/ It's crap.
 
Something not ok with the instruction
Always get minus FF with hexedit
and I follow the exact instruction
Now my screen black
Am trying to get my original rom and never worked !!!

Hi Cindori,

I reinstall 10.6.4
Reboot
install QECI1064
:( does not work for me, MacPro 1.1, ATI Radeon HD 4890, Quartz Driver not installed !

Then I installed Drexus's files then Quartz Driver is installed on 10.6.4.

Here's what I tried:

First installed Netkas' original QECI enabler. Kernel panic.

Reinstalled 10.6.4 combo update. No QECI acceleration and fan speed very high.

Ran Cindori's patched 10.6.3 extensions. Did not overwrite existing files.

Manually removed:
ATI4800Controller.kext
ATIFramebuffer.kext
ATIRadeonX2000.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GA.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.kext
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.kext
ATISupport.kext

Ran Cindori's patched extensions again. Installed successfully.

Rebooted, QECI now enabled, played Portal for 30 mins, fan speed back to normal, seems like everything is working OK.
 
no luck

I erased my hard drive, installed 10.6, installed the 10.6.4 combo updater and tried to apply cindori's patch from http://groths.org/QECI1064.zip. It did not work. I erased the hard drive again, but this time installed 10.6 without QuickTime 7 and Rosetta, then applied 10.6.4 combo udpate. Same result... so at least I've ruled out the use of Zeus for 10.5.x through 10.6.3 as being the problem.

Cindori could u plz take a look here I tried manually and this script via mac !
with MAC I get only 1 MCuC ! manually never works I can't understand this
I feel it's not same other ROM's

Upgrading to SL from 10.5.8

I need to upgrade my 3,1 MP to SL and I've looked through this thread and I can't seem to find the actual process on how to do it.

From what I've read here, I should stay away from 10.6.4 for now, so I can certainly get it to 10.6.3 with no issues. BUT...am I correct in assuming that I can upgrade to 10.6.0 without losing my display? Do I need to boot into Safe Mode and run Zeus, apply the combo update for 10.6.3 and repeat the process?

I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the post that shows the steps that I need to take to get to 10.6.3 or perhaps if it's not too bad if you could list out the steps here?

Much appreciated.
 
I have to return my HD4890, because it was failing. It needed 15 minutes warmup to work stable :/ XFX is crappy.

so I ask for testers to try, from fresh install 10.6.4

install my QECI pkg, reboot

if still no QECI, try install pkg again

reboot

still no QECI? repair permissions, reboot


let me hear at what point you get qeci support

The only thing it ever seems to fix is java files when I view details on fixing permissions. But I will try this also.

No good.

Needed to get things working, so just manually installed set of 7 1.6.10 files with kext helper, rebooted, and all was fine. Files are identical, so there is something that kext helper is doing that your package is not. Unfortunately, I did not capture the log of what kext helper did.

At no point. I am trying to help you out; did you have a certain number of reboots or permission repairs in mind? 3? 5? I don't really need 10.6.4 and have it working with manual moves on my main volume. If you want to troubleshoot, just holla. Good luck.

Fresh install of 10.6 on MP 3.1. Combo update to 10.6.3. Ran box for a week with this fully updated (security updates, iTunes, etc.) 10.6.3 system. Yesterday, updated to 10.6.4 using combo update. Reboot. Apply Cindori patch. Reboot. NO QECI. Reinstall Cindori patch. Reboot. NO QECI. Reinstall Cindori patch. Repair permissions. Reboot. NO QECI.

Install kexts using kext helper from Drexus. Reboot. FULL QECI support.

Cindori, or anyone else that would know...

I'm running 10.6.4 with the 10.6.3 kexts manually installed. Things work but I'm having some slight artifacts and the computer crashes when I try and play games.

Does this mean my ROM is messed up? Is my card possibly messed up?

I've made my ROM from the original so if it is the ROM, I'm not sure what else I can do.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
 
i would say for the time being, if you have a flashed card and want it to work properly, dont install 10.6.4

I'm with you...but...can you answer my earlier post above about actually getting to 10.6.3? I still can't find the post in this thread that says what the steps are. :(

I reinstalled 10.6.0 and got QECI working. However, whenever I get QECI working the computer gets these temporary little glitches where it will lock for half a second. The mouse and keyboard wont move, it appears that everything continues to work but that mouse and keyboard input lock up.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can confirm my issue/troubleshoot it?

Can't you just install 10.6.0, download 10.6.3 install it and then install QECI?

I've had no issues doing the above, the computer works without QECI, just a lot of things don't. You should still be able to install the combo update, though.
