hello everyone, what about the kind of Sapphire 4890? It has three output (DVI, HDMI, DISPLAYPORT), will it flash with mac pro 2.1? or after flashed, will the hdmi and displayport work fine? THANKS! sorry about my English

The part number of that card doesn't appear to be the common 2 New Edition's shown in Peloche chart. I would make a backup of the ROM using atiflash, or something similar, and see if one of the great folks here can EFI it.

As for HDMI, I don't believe it will work.

Tried the X32 version in 32 bit and 64 bit boot and no KPs but Zeus says no QE/CI in either.

did any of you have the dualdvi.zip patch since earlier??
if so you have to uncheck ati4800controller

if not,
try if this acts any different

Thanks Cindori and everyone else for your help. How can I tell if I applied that patch? I don't remember doing so, but I did run with 2 monitors at one point so I may have.

I'll try that package with a fresh install when I have some time this weekend. Maybe I need to uncheck that controller in the installer after all.

Hello, to whom it might concern, the new netka's 10.6.4 patch doesn't work for me (Sapphire HD4890 new edition). Reverted back to 10.6.3 kexts.

Hi,

While the patch works for me (i can use my machine), I no longer have QE with my Sapphire New Edition. Very interesting indeed.

hehe, kinda far away (luleå) hoping to move to Lund once I get a place to stay :D

Wow... I will need to consult a map for that one :) But I am going to try to make it north of arctic circle just so I can say I was there :p

Yep same here, no QE_CI after applying the patch. I reverted to the workarround with the older drivers until theres a fix, if any is coming

the fix is already out, and it was tested to work in both x32 and x64, if it doesnt work for you it means YOU borked your installation somehow and don't wait for a fix to fix what YOU broke.

Indeed, I borked my install with the original but the update fixed it and now my system is fine.

Hi. Very strange then. I didn't do the 10.6.4 update until your 2nd QE update (that included the 64bit fix) so not sure what could have happened.

K

Hey, before you do that....

Look in System Profiler in the Extensions window.

See which ATI extensions are loaded.

Sorry, but I had already started the rollback before I read this. I currently have things back to normal with QE_CI working with 10.6.3. My plan is to try and update again this weekend. I can let you know then if it works and which extensions are loaded and see if I can figure out what is wrong. If I can't get it working again, I plan to roll back to 10.6.3 then image the drive (for backup purposes) and do a complete leopard reinstall and upgrade to 10.6.4 then try the patch again. If that doesn't work then I don't know what else I can do, but live with 10.6.3 or buy a new card. Also, when I was in 10.6.4 without QE_CI, preview wouldn't display anything, iPhoto wouldn't open pictures into a large frame, Time machine's graphical component wouldn't work. It was a real mess which is why I reverted so quickly.

I am open to other ideas to try and will try and check the thread every night for other suggestions.

I am still sitting at 10.6.3, have a Mac Pro 1.1 and a Saphire 4890 New Edition.

I have been checking the forums for the past few weeks and seems some have had success and others not.

I am willing to test but am not sure the proper method at this point.

Can I just update to 10.6.4, then install the latest patch from Zeus, or do I need to break open KextHelper and put the old 10.6.3 kexts back after the update?

There is no need to be offensive. Also, i'm not an idiot, i know my way arround OSX. I haven't tweaked anything other than those kexts that i replaced with the 10.6.3 ones. I installed the combo update to 10.6.4 over those and then applied your patch. It didn't work. Just because you responded in such a manner, I actually tried the patch on my backup, which wasn't updated to 10.6.4 ever, i updated that then applied the patch. Didn't work. I dont somehow expect you or anyone else to fix something for 'ME', or for anyone else for this matter, all im saying is that the patch isn't working for EVERYONE. Of course you're not required to do any of this as you don't owe anyone, I'm just giving some feedback on the patch you made, in case you wanted some. peace

what netkas meant with "borked" was just that.

But then it didn't even work on my backup which wasn't 'borked' as you say. And i'm not here to b1tch about it, rather providing some feedback to the creator. I know he has a lot in his head with his exams and stuff, i never meant to be pushy or something

Yeah, I've tried 15-16 times to get QECI running under 10.6.4 with a Sapphire Vapor-X 4890. Last attempts were a couple of days ago with a new HD and fresh install of 10.6.0 combo updated to 10.6.4 on a 3,1 MP. No go. All the reinstalling of the patch, repairing of permissions, chanting, howling at a cold and unjust universe, have proven themselves barren.

Each and every time, however, installing the 10.6.3 kexts with Kext Helper has worked flawlessly, resulting in proper QECI behavior after a reboot.

THANK YOU

netkas patch is valid, but framebuffers that appeared in 10.6.3/10.6.4 are causing trouble for flashed cards, 4870 too. that is why some have to downgrade.
