Hi all !
1 month ago I bought a Connect 3D HD 4890 1GB.
I put it in my MacPro 1.1 (4x3GHz).
I'm under 10.6.3 and the card is not flashed.
It works like a charm with the injector.
But I do new installations quite often, and its not really useful to see nothing when I have to choose a drive to boot...

So, I wanna try to flash my card, if possible.
I haven't seen anybody trying to flash a connect 3d yet...

The card looks like all originals 4890, exactly like the sapphire, but with the ATI sticker, so that gives me hope !

Here are the screenshot of GPU-Z, and the original ROM attached.
Could someone help me ?
Thx

Finally I continued to look around and found the Penoche instructions of Pipomolos method.
Tried to do it myself, and it worked ! Wow ! Impressive.
So Thank you guys for your work, see you around for next graphic cards :)

Great News Toumak !!!

Really nice to see that work done by others in the pst is still helping people today.

Please post an image of card or it's part number but MOST importantly, please attach the ROM you made that works !!!

Will help anyone else who gets the card.

And if you have a 30" and another DVI/HDMI display, please report on the screen tearing issue.

Congrats again, Always nice when it works out !!

Update

Hi All,

Just an update from my QE problem when I upgraded to 10.6.4. My issue was I wasn't getting QE working for my 4890 Sapphire New Edition using the netkas patch that was released. (after the 64bit fix, I didn't do the 10.6.4 update for a while until I felt the QE patch was fully working).

It was suggested I would need to do a fresh install of 10.6, do the 10.6.4 update, and then do the patch in case some of my extensions got messed up. I did that process today, and I still do not have QE working per the Zues tool :(

Both DVI are working perfectly, can't try the TV-OUT right now.
Here is joined the flashed rom of my card, I'll update this post with a picture of my Card after I shut down the Mac Pro ;)

Thanks again for your awesome work guyz you're doing in here.
I'll probably come around for the forthcoming MacPros with 5870  (which should come today ...).

The new stock 5770 does not seem to be a very great improvement in terms of performance over the 4890 but is less power hungry and will be fully supported with no need for QE_CI exotic patches any more. However, the 5870 is another beast with 40% better performance over the 5700 but it comes at a premium price of about $400 for the PC versions here in Japan. I guess Apple will be wanting $600 more for it! I could not find the Apple pricing on the AS this morning.

From Techspot
Furthermore, the Radeon HD 5770 features the exact core configuration of the Radeon HD 4870 and 4890: 800 SPUs, 40 TAUs (Texture Address Units) and 16 ROPs (Rasterization Operator Units).

The core clock speed also matches that of the Radeon HD 4890 card at 850MHz
, while GDDR5 memory is set to operate at 1200MHz. There's 1GB of memory in total spread across eight chips, which are located on the front and back side of the card.

48 h after the new MacPro announcement and still no pricing on the GPU HD5870 option—the more I read about the stock 5770, the less impressed I am; 128-bit wide memory.
The 5870 is really the "bad boy" GPU but how much extra will it cost as BTO?

Yea, who knows. I am guessing the 5770 is going probably gonna be $150-$200 for an additional card when ordering BTO (for a total of 2), and $250 - $300 for the card at the store. I suspect the 5870 is gonna be $499-$599 at the store (at least), and probably $300-$350 for a BTO upgrade from a 5770)

My guesses.

I will probably go with the 5770 since I don't need the power of the 5870, esp. not at those prices.

rom MD5

hello everyone,

I got a 4890 Vapor-X 1gb DDR5 DP/DVI/VGA/HDMI card, it is actually running in my hackintosh with wonderful zeus program (thanks cindori). I just enabled natit and that's it (had installed the qe+ci before by netkas).

Anyway, I would like to flash it with a mac efi so it works on mac and pc.
However I do not have a PC around anymore to get the exact ROM MD5 file to identify the card. It seems there are a few vapor-x different checksums around as seen here : http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=209170&d=1262249595

Is there any way i could check my MD5 under SL 10.6.4 to do the right flash? I guess no...
Or any hint on the card or the box that would tell me what rom to use?

Is the only solution to remove the card and put it into a PC running GPU-Z to extract the stuff ?

Is there a "risk" my 4890 won't boot my iHac if i try one of Peloche correspondind roms (say number 02 for instance) : https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/8979635/ ?

Hello everyone,
Wanted to report my experience, for what it may serve.
I own a Macpro 1.1 with Sapphire 4890 New Edition flashed some time ago. Everything worked fine in 10.6.3 till i decided to upgrade to 10.6.4.

I had to reinstall 1.6.10 kexts from netkas QECI. Everything went OK. Played Starcraft2 whith Ultra graphics settings at 1920x1080, pretty smooth. But there was some artifacts during game (i think it was texture-related, note sure).

I then tried Zeus to install new 10.6.4 kexts. Nothing to do, I've not been able to get QECI back on. Tried a lot of combinations, never worked. Each time i restarted from my old 10.5.8.

Something strange, I came to a point where i lost QECI in 10.5.8 after trying to boot 10.6.4 with an ATY_Init kext. Got it back reinstalling QECI_Exotic for 10.5.8.

Now I fall back to 10.6.4 and 1.6.10 kexts (10.6.3 QECI Exotic + fix for a fix). QECI Enabled.

BUT I fired up my Starcraft2 and it was sluggish with same setting as before.
Reduced them, it was still very slow. Tried to reboot. Same. Had to sleep a little, put the damn thing to sleep too.

This morning, just woke up the Mac and fired up Starcraft to see. AND everything is back to normal, good framerate in ultra settings. Pretty strange. Really.

By the way, thanks again to those of you who make these possible ! Keep up the good work ! If I can test something or help in any way, let me know. I'll try my best ;)

Hi Cindori and everyone,

would you or anybody else be kind enough to help me modifying my Sapphire Radeon HD4890 Vapor-X 1G GDDR5 to be mac compatible

PCI-E HDMI/DP/DVI-I/VGA

P/N: 288-1E115-020SA
SKU#: 11150-05-20R
BIOS Version: VER011.022.002.001.032404

Thank you very much in advance ^-^

edit: bananafly and jam86 had same P/N and SKU# but different bios version, so i did not take the risk to try their mods (see around page 101-102 as far as i can remember)

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start off by thank you guys for all the hard and trying to make this as painless as possible.

I have been hunting around and trying to find a 4890 1GB that can be flashed to work in a Mac Pro 1,1 but no one seems to have them. Any advise as to where one can find one of these. If possible I would like a new one. Thanks in advance.

You should probably stop looking as the Mac edition Radeon HD 5770 and the Radeon HD 5870 are going to be available soonish.

Same looking on all the various warehouse sites and I can't find a new standard 4890, also in the US. Help would be appreciated, I'd prefer not to buy used.
