you should be getting round 700 on these settings + benchmark ticked.
not 200.

might be problem with rom but unlikely. im guessing 10.6.4 driver is it, or perhaps a new version of OpenGL viewer is behind these scores?

Yeah, I blame myself for not having run this benchmark test with every release of OS X, so I could have an easy comparison after software updates. Oh well. :) Maybe it will improve down the road?

Damn, I guess I should have went with a sapphire. The XFX is a great card, but can't work to its potential in my machine... sucks. Is there anyone else we can inform with our issue, to hope to see it fixed in next update? I really don't want to purchase another card.

anyone wants to help me out in solving the problem as to why some people need to use 10.6.2 framebuffers (dualdvi.zip, mapp.zip) ?

if so, I need a person that has had to install these in order for their 4870 or 4890 card to give QECI

if you are up to it, make sure you have 1 setup with 10.6.4 where you are having QECI, and 1 clean 10.6.4 install where you do not have QECI (even with QECI patch in zeus)

and then send me your original card rom.

Would it be good idea to hold off the Graphics Update 1.0 released today by Apple if you have a flashed 4890 or 4870 too?

I was wondering this too. I'm not sure, its very tempting.

Worst comes to worse, reinstall OSX and then put the old 10.6.3 drivers on there?

Don't do it! I said yes to the update without thinking and BANG! artifact city. Geezz I hate going through this every time.

OK, whats the procedure again... I can't even remember what we all did to get out of the last update issue.

I believe you re-install snow leopard and then the 10.6.3 combo update and then qeci.

I think you can update to 10.6.4 and manually install the 10.6.3 kexts as well, then qeci.

Ahhh I just want to get these fancy new graphics updates!

Graphics update works fine on my flashed 4870 (512MB). But, I flashed it with an unchanged image of Apple's 4870 ROM. No editing or changes were needed for my particular card. The OS thinks it's an Apple card.

Can anyone else confirm this? What exactly is it about the drivers that the new drivers that don't work with the flashed cards. Is there anything we can do?

Graphic Update Disaster

I also said yes to the Auto Update. So from what I have read I have to reinstall Snow Leopard and update all they up to the previous version then flash card???

you have not done your homework. any new drivers will overwrite old ones and make 4890 un-recognized. wait for netkas to make new patch or reinstall SL.

thnks but you dont qualify, I need people that didnt get qeci in 10.6.4 (not 10.6.4 + gfx update) there is no shocker that you dont get qeci with the gfx update because you overwrite your 4890 drivers by installing that

I didnt get qeci in 10.6.4. (BEFORE SnowLeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0) not with QE_CI_Exotic patch for 10.6.4.pkg from netkas site, not with QECI_1064.pkg from Zeus

This combination only work for me on 10.6.4.

I try SnowLeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0 just for fun yesterday

Thanks Netkas & Cindori

Updated from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4 and no issues :)

ATI Radeon XFX 4890 1Gb btw..

So you did not have any problems with 10.6.4 either and could just upgrade to that version without problems?
And are (and always have been) using the default SL drivers with every new update?

The new Patch for GU 1.0 works like a charme. No Problems so far. And the speedboost in Open GL Viewer before and after is AMAZING!

1500 FPS speedup!!! Only openGl 2.1 is the same score.

I flashed my XFX 512MB 4870 with the straight Apple 4870.ROM back in October. So, whatever Snow Leopard updates have come out since then have worked fine for me. And, yes, I'm currently running 10.6.4. It installed without incident.

I detailed the flashing of my XFX 4870 in this message:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/8724520/

As far as everything I've done since, Apple's software updates seem to "see" my flashed 4870 as a genuine Apple card.

OK, whats the procedure again... I can't even remember what we all did to get out of the last update issue.
I installed the graphics update late last night... What was I thinking?! (actually, I was thinking 'It's not a major system update, just a graphics update, what could it hurt?') D'oh! For some reason the Zeus 2.1 didn't work for me, I still got artifacts, although the power cable warning was disabled- YEA! I pulled the ATI 1.6.10 extensions from a Time Machine backup, replaced the new ones (v. 1.6.18) with the old ones, repaired permissions and restarted. Artifacts are gone, everything is back to the way it was before. The extensions I replaced are:
ATI4800Controller.kext
ATIFramebuffer.kext
ATIRadeonX2000.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX3000.kext

same results in open GL

After updating zeus 2.1 and installing new exotic package. I installed the graphics update from apple. Im still having a slower than normal XFX, any other uses still experiencing this?

Caseys, What ROM are you using on your XFX card?
Model number card?

mine: HD-489A-ZDF7

thank you

you are supposed to install excotic pkg AFTER os update.... its patch mechanics 101

Sorry that's what I did. I just worded it wrong. Does this mean my card doesn't have "full" support with the exotic packages? Still slower than most people's cards their upgrading from.
