No go on Sapphire NE 4890 (QECI that is)

Hi,

Tried the graphics update, rebooted, then installed netkas patch, then rebooted. Everything came backup, but no QE with 1.6.18 drivers :( Same situation as 10.6.4 with netkas patch. Will go back to 10.6.3 drivers to get QE.

No QE

Hi Cindori!

have the SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E and have updated (combo) to 10.6.4. - ran the QECI and rebooted, installed mapp.zip and then dualdvi.zip and I still have no QE. (checked between each step).
Have no Graphics Update installed.

Can I help you test?

Regards
Claus

have you installed the snow leopard graphics update? if so, use the zeus updater and install new patch

Just thought I would let you know:

ITS WORKING - I HAVE QE! :)

Procedure: updated (combo) to 10.6.4. - ran the QECI and rebooted, installed mapp.zip and then dualdvi.zip, installed:

ATIRadeonX2000.kext 1.6.10
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin 1.6.10
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle 1.6.10
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle 1.6.10

from 1063_qeci. That did the trick!

Thanks for your great work!

Regards
Claus

Strange: Before I did the 10.6.3 kexts, I noticed that the only extensions loaded were the ATI Controller and ATI Support, and not the framebuffer or x2000. Not sure why, or what this means, but just thought I would say.

Was I supposed to uninstall the first one when trying the second?

Installed one after another doing OpenGL before each and yielded same results. This is odd. Did the person who was also having this issue get resolved? Starting to wonder if it's my particular card... Though games play fine no artifclacts, it could just be faster.

Bodhisattvax:

Have you had success with the Graphics Update? I've had no luck installing any of the supplied pkg files, but followed your install path and was able to get QE working in 10.6.4. I'm on a Saphire NE. Wonder why so many people have success with the pkg files, and others need to do the pick-and-choose shuffle.

Homework complete

you have not done your homework. any new drivers will overwrite old ones and make 4890 un-recognized. wait for netkas to make new patch or reinstall SL.

Thanks,
I downloaded the new Zeus 2.1 ran the driver patch + graphic update and back to business as usual.

Thanks guys

4890

I just had an hickup wich I can't really explain, perhaps some one here could?

I got a brand new HD-489x-ZHFC in my Macpro 1,1 (unflashed), and avery thing have been running like a charm with Netkas drivers. It allso runs brilliantly in win7 and XP64 (bootcamp).

How ever, the other day, my Win7 hung - the graphics got distorted with vertical lines, making the desktop unrecognizeable. I did not pay much notice sinche I was harcore gaming (Farcy - with every thing set to maximum in the graphix - HD resolution). Thought it could have been some over heating or something.

Yesterday the same thing happend in OSX, with almost no load at all on the card. When I rebooted the card was not to be found at all in my harware profile. So what the heck could it be?

The ATI is in the firs PCIe slot @16x and I still have the old Nvidia 7300 in slot 4 @8x. Could it be a conflict between the two? Or should I make sure to flash the card - would it resolve this problem (I'm going to flash the card anyways soon, and remove the 7300 then)?

Best,
m0

Yikes. sounds not too good with me. Will do some benchmarking when I get home tomorrow evening. What software should I use?

As allways: thanks for the fast and good reply Cindori. =)

Cheers,

I saw quite a boost in performance (not really surprising).

Radeon HD 4890
OpenGL View Extensions (1920 x 1080, Multisample 4x, Anisotropic 16x) saw an average increase of around 33%.

Without multisample and anisotropic it were 40%.

Not bad.

What is your system, and what method did you use?

Hi Cindori,

I downloaded Zeus 2.1 and had following problem.
Whenever I click Driver Patch Check or Download Driver (ATI 4000/OSX 10.6.4+ Graphic Update). I always get this AppleScript Error says: Can't make <class> id 98 into type reference (-1700).

I have been using previous versions and they all works fine.
BTW I have a flashed XFX 4890 with MP1,1 10.6.4 (haven't install the SL Graphic Update yet).

Please help. Thanks.

I ran the Zeus 2.1 to no avail other then removing the warning.

Just to get my machine back running (so I can do some work) I ran the old files that got me out of this last time (1063_qeci.zip). In that zip file (from june of this year) was:
ATI4800Controller.kext
ATIFramebuffer.kext
ATIRadeonX2000.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle
ATISupport.kext
Kext Helper b7.app

So I ran the Kext Helper and all is working... BUT... the benchmarks are a fraction of what they were... like 30 fps rather then the 850 fps I used to have.

For crying out loud! There is such a lack of direction in this thread.

ProfDrLuigi posted excellent results and also included an image that showed the versions of kexts. Thing is, of everything I tried installing, I can't get a matching set of kexts all having 1.6.18. I have some, but not all.

What versions of everything does the patch offer? I have identical setup, but nothing as a solution if I follow the same process.

Now that ProfDrLuigi has a working card, I don't suppose we may hear back from him until the next OS update.

hm wtf, Im not seeing this... anyone else having this?

This is very weird. Previous versions all worked.

After downloaded the 2.1 and replaced the old one. That's when problem came up. I even deleted the program and re-downloaded. Still same issue. I even fixed permission and rebooted.

One thing I notice is that the "Get Updates" button still works and is able to detect current version is the newest one.
