Hi, all i just notice that i cant see any youtube or vimeo videos after i did update to 1.6.4 and QECI_1064?
Everything was working great early.
I have the XFX 4890 ZDDC v1.1 so is it just flash or something else.

Just to update those of you with two monitors...

Finally got around to trying out my 4890 with the 10.6.4 netkas patch. As always, the 30" monitor works beautifully by itself; when the 24" is added to the mix, the usual screen tearing on the 30" starts up. Might even be worse than it usually is this time around.

Back to the 1900 again. This XFX 4890 sure makes a great paperweight...

My 23" ACD and 22" display work fine on DVI with a Powercolor 4890 and 10.6.4 with the 1.6.16 drivers...

You may want to try the driver combo I posted previously. With Sapphire 4890 I had nearly perfect behavior on 30" while 24" on other DVI.

Hi Cindori,

Got hold of another Sapphire 4890 of the same type as before and did a side-by-side comparison with the Kurotoshiko 4890 and they are chip-for-chip identical right down to memory.
Flashed it with your 4890 rom that you built for me earlier and it works fine with no problems at all in 10.6.4—here is a shot of the box.
These are a much lower-cost option (about $120 to $130) than Sapphire 4890 but may only be available in Japan.

high school graduation week, I'm mostly on the run, using windows computers or iphone, and probably not sober enough to be making you anything anyway. try out making one for yourself, you have even more detailed explanations of the process now in the posts above. if you fail I will help you in a few days. Kurotoshiko also makes 5xxxx series cards and if they identical to Sapphire 5xxx series, they might be a money saver too when the time comes!

Hi,
I'm french, so excuse me if my english is a bit weird :D

Rominator, i was very surprised while reading your post concerning tearing issues with the 4890 with a 30" and a 24" pluged on it.

I have an HIS Radeon HD 4890 - 1Go, install the 10.6.4 update and Netkas patch via Zeus, but still experiencing tearing issues when i pluged the two monitor.

Is there any chance that i can fix that problem ? I'm a graphic designer and you can imagine that my two monitor are very usefull to me.

Moreover, I'd like to know if you have a optimized rom for the 4890 HIS model please.

Thank you for your work !

Fred, from France

So I've received another card from XFX. This time its a ZHFC ver 1.0.

And WOW!

It worked straight out of the box. I didn't see the computer boot up at all (I was trying to load the DOS bootdisk) but I got my blue screen then OSX. I have even QECI working on 10.6.4!

What gives?!?

Here is the original ROM for reference:

you must have Natit or ATY_Intit sitting in your extensions folder.

All I can suggest is that you mimic the install combo of drivers shown in my post. Some kexts were from the Mac Mini 10.6.4 disc imge which you can download from Apple. Whther it worked well for me due to card being exceptional or driver combo being good is fact to be decided.

hi,

here's to hoping somebody can help me out :(

i bought the following pre-flashed card from ebay:

Sapphire Ati Radeon HD 4890 1GB
Slot Compatibility: PCI Express
(Firmware) v113-B7710C-176
VRAM: 1Gb (1024mb) 256-bit GDDR5

steam is not working anymore (but honestly, i could not care less. not a gamer...) but there is quite some tearing going on on my 30 inch monitor. i have a 19 inch widescreen connected as well; no tearing going on there...

is there anything i could do? maybe an updated bootrom or sth? or am i simply SOL?

regards and thanks in advance :)

//EDIT:
using 10.6.4 server

Rominator can you link me your combo drivers please ! Maybe I don't understand clearly what you were answearing to me :D

Thanks

you want to end up with same extension versions as in this image:

http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=237245&d=1278455951

which is from this post:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/10460220/

Basically, the kexts labeled 1.6.18 are NEWER than regular 10.6.4, you need to use Pacifist to dig them out of the Mac Mini dmg from Apple. (look in their downloads section, it is special OS package for the latest update to Mini)

Pacifist allows you to choose things to actually install. Use those in conjunction with Netkas package so that you end up with same Combo of drivers seen in that image.

I am not saying this is a guaranteed fix, I just know that when I had the MSI 4890 it had very noticeable screen tearing when 30" was used with a 2nd DVI display. I got rid of that 4890 some time ago. With this more recent attempt with Sapphire card, suddenly 95% of screen tearing gone, almost nonexistent.

It was either the driver combo, or the Sapphire card being especially immune. You can figure this out by seeing if that combo of drivers makes yours work any better.

a little help please:)

So I recently installed and flashed a sapphire 4890 into my mac pro 1,1.

Installed Quartz update for 10.6.4, running dual displays no problems BUTTTTT.......

something seems fishy about my open gl scores.

Most of the people I've seen on here are scoring over a 1000 when benchmark is check in open gl viewer,

when I do this my scores drop significantly...

Screenshot2010-07-22at103408PM.png

with benchmark unchecked

any help, ideas, or confirmation that these are normal scores would be great.

Thanks everyone,

the scres should go down when "benchmark" is checked. By doing that the card has to render MANY more copies of the "spinning cube".

HOWEVER, your scores STINK !!!

If you look in post above yours I link to a previous post of mine that oddly enough has a results page like yours.

Same Quad 3.0 processors, same setup on the OpenGl page.

Only 2 differences I see:

1. Mine is running at a much higher res of 2560x1600 vs you on 1920x1200.
2. Mine got much higher scores.

Those things should work in other direction. So, something is definitely OFF in either your card or drivers.

Which Sapphire card do you have? I have found that the current 4870 from XFX runs lower clocks and uses the lower parts of "Power Play" more than earlier 4870 from XFX. Result is 10-20% lower scores on that test.

Way to spot the slower 4870s is the new mickey mouse fan that looks like an orange turd affixed to the card.

So, does your Sapphire 4890 look like the one I pictured? How did you end up with a ROM for it, was it written for your card from original ROM or did you find one that worked.

Also, you should compare which extensions are loaded for ATI, like in the shot I did.

Tried playing bioshock all options turned up. Not a single hitch. my old 8800gt wouldnt be able to do that.

I installed the following way.

With 8800gt and 4890 in place. I flashed the 4890 using a rom package(listed all compatible cards, pictures of them regular and overclocked roms for them) for that card that I found in this thread. Reinstalled the 4890 into the main slot.

Booted with no problems.

I still have it plugged into the superdrive because i am awaiting the logic board cables

it seems a couple of mine are different?
Any ideas on what next?

thanks for your time and help:)

I have exactly the same Card and no problems so far. Working like a charme. here is an archive with the Rom´s. I used the "Normalclocked".

Real noob question
Do I need to reinstall my 8800 GT and put the 4890 in a separate slot or can I leave the 4890 in there by itself and reflash it while it's running

I see my Card has a green PCB. Yours is red? But the Image of the cover is identical. I think that´s important (Revision/Version).

Here is my SKU#: 21150-00-20R

Hum I just tried flashing from that and It said I already have that same rom installed..... :(

I have a feeling its working but I mean how well I dont know...I can play bioshock at highest settings at 1920 by 1200 without a hitch but I dont know if thats normal even with the card under performing.

what do you mean by the PCB? the board? haha excuse the acro ignorance haha :)

which 4890 "fix" package did you use?

you may as well follow my advice about getting the kexts out of Mini dmg

***EDITED

Okay so now my extensions are exactly that of yours. through a little research I found a prior thread where you flashed this same exact card. PN 288-1E115-500SA

any other ideas on what next? I know something has got to be off if my benchs dont look right....wierd thing is bioshock is playing buttery smooth without a hitch. Any ideas?

Thanks again for the time:)

Finally got around to updating to 10.6.4, just wanted to report back in case this helps anyone here.

Card: Sapphire Radeon 4890 New Edition
Mac Pro 1,1
Setup: Two monitors, 24" on DVI, 22" on Display Port

Process:
-Downloaded and installed the 10.6.4 combo update from Apple
-Did NOT reboot
-Used Zeus to download and install the 10.6.4 qe patch
-Rebooted
-OSX came back up with NO Quartz Extreme or 2nd monitor (22" on display port)
-I ran kext helper and installed the 10.6.3 kext files (posted in a previous thread here) then rebooted
-OSX came back up now with QE working just fine but still NO Dual monitor working
-Found the dualdvi kext files (also previously posted) and used kext helper to install those files and rebooted.

Now everything is working fine, obviously I am not using the newer kext files but I have the update 10.6.4 working and I have QE and dual monitors working which is fine for me.

Hope this posts helps for anyone waiting to update and not sure on the steps.

Once again, just posting on the forums seems to be enough to fix my problems :)

Thanks cindori, rominator and peloche!
