Just to update those of you with two monitors...
Finally got around to trying out my 4890 with the 10.6.4 netkas patch. As always, the 30" monitor works beautifully by itself; when the 24" is added to the mix, the usual screen tearing on the 30" starts up. Might even be worse than it usually is this time around.
Back to the 1900 again. This XFX 4890 sure makes a great paperweight...

high school graduation week, I'm mostly on the run, using windows computers or iphone, and probably not sober enough to be making you anything anyway. try out making one for yourself, you have even more detailed explanations of the process now in the posts above. if you fail I will help you in a few days. Kurotoshiko also makes 5xxxx series cards and if they identical to Sapphire 5xxx series, they might be a money saver too when the time comes!
Is there any chance that i can fix that problem ? I'm a graphic designer and you can imagine that my two monitor are very usefull to me.
Rominator can you link me your combo drivers please ! Maybe I don't understand clearly what you were answearing to me
Thanks
the scres should go down when "benchmark" is checked. By doing that the card has to render MANY more copies of the "spinning cube".
HOWEVER, your scores STINK !!!
If you look in post above yours I link to a previous post of mine that oddly enough has a results page like yours.
Same Quad 3.0 processors, same setup on the OpenGl page.
Only 2 differences I see:
1. Mine is running at a much higher res of 2560x1600 vs you on 1920x1200.
2. Mine got much higher scores.
Those things should work in other direction. So, something is definitely OFF in either your card or drivers.
Which Sapphire card do you have? I have found that the current 4870 from XFX runs lower clocks and uses the lower parts of "Power Play" more than earlier 4870 from XFX. Result is 10-20% lower scores on that test.
Way to spot the slower 4870s is the new mickey mouse fan that looks like an orange turd affixed to the card.
So, does your Sapphire 4890 look like the one I pictured? How did you end up with a ROM for it, was it written for your card from original ROM or did you find one that worked.
Also, you should compare which extensions are loaded for ATI, like in the shot I did.
I have exactly the same Card and no problems so far. Working like a charme. here is an archive with the Rom´s. I used the "Normalclocked".

I see my Card has a green PCB. Yours is red? But the Image of the cover is identical. I think that´s important (Revision/Version).
