Why?

I have copies of the older extensions so I thought, if the update messed up my video, I could just replace the 1.6.24 versions with the older 1.6.10s

Where is Zeus 2.1?

Nevermind, I found the newest Zeus. I guess I should get a little sleep.....I'll be waiting for the 10.6.5 qe_ci update.

Hello,

I just wrote it in the other thread --> 4890, Mac Pro 1,1 and new patch from netkas is working for me.

No QE/CI

oops... just kidding. The Netkas QE/CI exotic patch didn't work for me. Video on my 4890 looks fine until I try to play even a simple game that uses QE, then there are nasty black artifacts all over the screen.

I also have a 4890 but the update worked fine for me. Perhaps try running the patch again. If nothing else, run the 10.6.5 combo update, reboot, netkas' patch, reboot.

I have a 4890 (sapphire new edition w/ hynix memory), and am completely unable to get QE/CI (or indeed any openGL whatsoever) working in 10.6.5, with or without the netkas patch.

Same thing happened to me in 10.6.4 but by reverting to the mapp.zip extensions I was able to get it running. If I try mapp in 10.6.5, I get the 2 shades of blue at startup. Ideas? :(

if you dont get QECI in 10.6.5 with patch in zeus, switch back to your previous install. you can't run 10.6.5.

bummer, thanks. do you foresee a fix in the future? I never use my mac side for games anymore anyway, (framerates 1/3 of what I get booted in win7, even with QE_CI), but it would be nice to be able to watch videos and things and keep up with system updates :)

Going back to 10.6.4 with mapp extensions I suppose for the time being.

Ready to try to flash 4890, I have read a loads of post, but still have couple of quick questions. (Haven't done it before, so there might follow a bunch of questions later..)

I have XFX 4890 ZDFC v1.0, any experience with that one and which ROM would be the best option to start with? I haven't found any info on v1.0 and should I just go through the known ZDFC versions available before trying to make my own rom (or ask someone to do it)?

I will do a clean install of OSX before flashing, which version (leopard - snow leopard) is the best one to do the flashing? (I will try to flash it with Zeus) 10.5.8? 10.6.2? 10.6.4? I'd like to update to 10.6.4 (not a must) so should I just update there and do the flashing then?

Thanks.

4890 zdfc

Whatever you decide, make sure to dump the ROM and save it in a safe place. If you post it here someone might edit it for you. I've long since lost my original ROM and, if the card won't work in 10.6.5, I might want to reflash my card to the original ROM and just use the Natit injector.
I have rerun the 10.6.5 update, rebooted, run the patch, rebooted... I still don't have QE/CI although I do have video. I've tried various ATI extensions from v1.6.6 to the current 1.6.24 and I can't get QE/CI with any of them.

I have exactly same problem - a basic Sapphire new with Hynix (flashed with no 2 Rom - giving me the cable warning)

Worked great until 10.6.3 - 10.6.4 required reverting to old mapp extension as after applying netkas QE patch nothing seemed to change - and now the situation is similar - i.e. QE patch doesnt seem to do anything - but reinstalling mapp extensions simply hangs the machine in the Blue Screen state

Could it be that the flas ROM was slightly off for this particular card?

Any help or advicechighly appreciated

Marcin

Same issue, reinstalled mapp ext just gives a blue screen when starting up. Eventually had to revert back to 10.6.4.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on how the 4890 might work in 10.6.5 with the PC ROM and NATIT injector? Anyone running an unflashed 4890 with NATIT and the 10.6.5 update?

if you dont get QECI in 10.6.5 with patch in zeus, switch back to your previous install. you can't run 10.6.5.

The QECI_1065 installer did not help to have the "Quartz Driver Installed", I mean I got "NO" after having it executed, even after permission repair and reboot. So I had to downgrade to 10.6.4.

I tried the QECI_1064+GraphicsUpdate without success too with OSX 10.6.4 :(
so I use the "Kext Helper b7" for 1064 and GraphicsUpdate, and all is working fine :)

Is there any plan to deliver files that can be installed using the Kext Helper b7 for OSX 10.6.5 ?

That should help for those that QECI installer did not help.

Thanks.....

My 4890 has been giving me great service and thanks to everyone involved, but I am about to replace it with an Apple 5870.

Is there anything I need to undo to my MP other than install 10.6.5 combo, will that flush out the kexts I added to get the 4890 working uder 10.6.4?

I used Mapp and Dual zips with the helper.

Thanks

no. something changed in the new drivers simply making them uncompatible. It would require alot of work with reverese engineering the new framebuffers and basically rewriting them to support all PC firmwares. you are stuck with 10.6.4.

Whoa that's a bad news, should I bought a new graphic card which will be supported under 10.6.5 ? and if so what is the suggestion here ?

Thanks

Looks like it's time to finally bite the bullet and buy the 5870 too if the 4890 is going to be stuck on 10.6.4 forever now.

We have confirmed that the 5870 works fine in a 1,1 Mac Pro, right?

How are people downgrading back to 10.6.4 from 10.6.5?

I should be receiving the 5870 in a day or so here, so I want to update everything first before I try installing it. But I need my 4890 to continue working if it doesn't, and so far I'm not seeing too many success stories of having the 4890 work under 10.6.5, so I'll probably have to go back to 10.6.4.

Is there's a specific way of going about doing this?

Most are probably using Time Machine backups. Boot from your SL DVD, select "Restore", point it to a Time Machine backup from before 10.6.5 (Nov 9) and let it run for an hour or two.
