I have a Sapphire VaporX 4890 (SKU# 11150-12-20R). I flashed the card using the vaporX 4890 rom with the ATI Flashing tool. The flash rom worked but resolution was stuck at 800x600. I am running SL. 10.6.0, Mac Pro 2,1. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My post flash rom version is:
ROM Revision: 113-B7710C-176
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.318

Edit: I got it to work. After qeci, the screen (3008wfp) was blacked out and seemed like it didn't work. This time, I remoted into the macpro and manually changed resolution to 1024x768, screen came alive. I then tried all different resolutions and it worked.

Darn it. I just restarted the computer and the screen doesn't light up again. Black out and require manually change resolution.

My sig for molex info.

I'm torn between wether its safe or not, some people say yes and some say no. Myself I had it running like that for a couple o months atleast. Then went 1 apple mobo cable and 1 molex just to be sure.

VGA works Windows, but not OSX. simple as that ;)
if your tv has HDMI ports, buy a DVI>HDMI cable instead :)

Thanks for your reply, I have been away from the forum for while and have only now read your response. I have decided to upgrade my display to get one with a DVI port and skip the VGA/DVI/HDMI issue, altogether.

Thanks again for info.

Could you please feedback and give us the card name, PN and SKU#, thanks.

Thanks Peloche! Unfortunately, I thought I was subscribed to the thread and since I never received a notice that you posted a rom so promptly, I tried my own homebrew rom flashing with dos and somehow bricked the card. I took that card back to Best Buy. Sorry for making you do the extra work. Hopefully it works out for the other guy! I have the 3rd attempt shipping to me on Monday. Will keep you guys posted!

ZSFC ver 1.6

Hi,

You'll find herewith a table showing information about HD 4890 cards.
If you like to complete this table or correct any mistakes please post your information (Manufacturer, Card Name, PN, SKU#).

Rev 0.02, Semaca input
Rev 0.03, Erlang input
Rev 0.04, 31/12/09: Inputs for TheSlowClub, Rokusaboro, iDigital Jock, swimmer939; Added file 11 to 13.zip

Hey Thanks Peloche! I noticed you went ahead and created a rom for the ZSFC. I just wanted to double check that you made that rom from previous knowledge since I hadn't posted the original rom for it yet. I was originally using the ZSFR ver 3.1 from best buy but I had the ver. 1.6 rom and it didn't work. I took that one back. I just received the ZSFC ver. 1.6 today from newegg and plan on flashing it in dos after work. Can you confirm that the #13 rom in your attachment is for the ZSFC and not the ZSFR? Thanks a million! If I don't hear back, I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. I'll post results in a few hours!

Success!

To Cindori and Peloche-

You guys are awesome! I received my XFX HD-489X-ZSFC ver 1.6 and flashed it using ATIFlash Tool 1.2. The included ROM for XFX worked beautifully! (Peloche, unfortunately, your 13.rom file you uploaded for me did not work, I tried it first, so I'm assuming you wrote it based on the ROM I gave for the ZSFR card) You guys can add this as verified and working!

Another success story

Hi everybody, a few words to report my success in flashing my Sapphire 4890 NE (Hynix chips). First i was unable to boot in OSX with Natit injected by ATIFlash. I read the thread again and decided to flash in my Bootcamp Win 7 partition. My card is the exact same than Supaklaw's one : same md5 for both original ROMs. So i used the ROM peloche made for him to flash and everything is up and running now : Win and OS X.6.2 with QECI.
Many thanks to you guys for your great job in the community. Hope we can use these 5xxx in the near future now  !!

I got a 4890 Sapphire today and it has a 6-pin and a 8-pin slot, I read on another post that someone used a 6-pin cable in the 8-pin slot and it worked ok.
Can i do this or do i need an 8-pin cable?

A 6-pin cable is fine, I'm using two of those and my card has an 8-pin slot in addition to the 6-pin.

Thats good news...I'll have another go at flashing today...yesterday I started it late at night and it didn't go smoothly...I didn't have any image on my screens..then my old card did the same same thing when put it back in

...but i think i didn't push it all the way in to the slot :p

I have a Sapphire 4890, it was sold as Model number: 21150-01-40R

I have a Mac Pro 1,1
The card works fine in Windows 7 but i have black screens when tying to use the 4890 Sapphire injector to boot in MacOS 10.6.2

The rom is different to the original Sapphire rom the rom pack,
md5 = d68778bb32e52de36461396bcc63f26b This is the dumped rom md5.

Photos of the card here… http://skitch.com/dario27/nqg7g/sapphire-4890

Could someone have a look at my dumped rom to see if its already had a modified rom made for it?

http://groths.se/atiflashingtool/redsaphnew.zip

use Kexthelper to install kexts

Thanks for the new injector...but still the same, no signal detected from the dvi ports.

Should i try to flash it in windows with the Sapphire rom in the rom pack?
I've read here that winflash isn't that stable

update: I tried winflash and i got a 'subsystemID missmatch'...whatever that is lol

I picked up a XFX Radeon HD 4890 just prior to Christmas from Best Buy...

Finally got installed today and it's been working fairly well.

I used a ROM posted earlier in the thread and things seem to work fine for the most part. I do get some artifacting and tearing inside of WoW - regardless of the graphics settings I use. It doesn't make the game unusable - just annoying. If I tab out, or switch to another Space - there's no problems.

Any ideas? Is the ROM I'm using just a "little bit wrong"?

Thanks for all your hard work though.

Xfx 4890 -zdfc

I've got an XFX 4890 model -ZDFC, which looks exactly like the one pictured in the card table. When I flashed it with the ROM included with ATI Flashing Tool it initially looked good, I had the gray Apple boot screen, then blue screen, then my desktop. After a few brief moments the video scrambled. About that time I realized that, in my newbie enthusiasm, I had not backed up the original ROM. Ive tried all the others ROMs I could find (ZSFR, ZSFC, ZDEC) and they all boot with scrambled video. If anyone can post or PM me the ROM from a ZDFC, either original or Mac modified, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

ZSFC please clarify

To Cindori and Peloche-

Do you mean the ROM included with the current ATIFLash Tool 1.2 is what worked on the ZSFC? I am trying to get the same card to work and so far the Mac (v2.1) will not boot with the card plugged in, with Natit installed. I am planning to DOS flash it in a PC to see if that works. The card works, I already saved the stock ROM using a PC. Any other suggestions if DOS flashing doesn't work? Thanks all.

When I installed my XFX 4890, it wouldn't give me a signal with Natit installed either. After I flashed it using ATIFlashTool 1.2, it worked.

That is the exact setup I have. My machine (late Mac Pro 2.66) boots just fine but the display is not being recognized.

I initially DOS flashed it with my PC but reflashed on my Mac after the first attempts but still have the same outcome. The System Profile shows the correct card info including EFI version but there is no display indicated. Hmmm.

Hey guys, I'm still having some issues with trying to get my new 4890 XFX card to work. Here's a recap of things so far:

I tried flashing it using Cindori's ATI Flashing Tool and the provided XFX Overclocked ROM. No luck here. Peloche was nice enough to write me a new ROM, although herein lies the problem, as I can't actually get to a point where I can try to RE-flash the card using this new ROM.

Mac OS craps out with the 4890 in, with crazy graphic glitches and a warning message about the power cables not being properly connected to the card.

Screen Sharing also does not work in this situation.

BootDisk Flashing doesn't work either as it also throws an error about not having a properly connected power cable.

And finally I can't even boot back into Windows (via Bootcamp) as it gives me the same power cable message.

I have tried both of my power cables (both 6-pin pcie to the motherboard) cables with my X1900, working fine, so clearly they are not the issue.

Does anybody have ANY idea where I can go from now?? Is there any other way of flashing my card with either Peloche's new ROM or even the original (which I have)??

Kernal Panic

Hello again,
I went to windows first and tested my card in crysis...Worked great. I then backed up my ROM in GPUZ and moved over to OS.

I followed all the steps on page 1. I flashed, Installed qe_ci pkg and rebooted. At the apple tone I went ahead and hooked my monitor cable to the 4890.

The grey apple screen appeared and went to the blue screen like it was going to boot.... then, Kernal panic. The 4890 just locked up and showed a bunch of distorted pixels. So then I hooked the monitor cable back to the 7300gt and watched the KP right when I hit the blue screen again.

I shut down, Disconnected the power to the 4890 and booted into OS. The 4890 shows up in the profile now. Is this just a bad ROM? Or maybe even bad placement...In slot 2?

EDIT: I tested the 4890 in slot 1 by itself with the same result, KP after gray apple screen.

Original ROM attached below.

Mac Pro 1,1
7gb RAM
OSX 10.5.8
Hanns G 28" HDMI LCD
Nvidia 7300GT
Card: 4890 Power Color with cover (Exact same as pictured on page 1)
ROM Used: 4890 Power Color with cover located here:
