Yes, I have one power cable connected to it from the original card, and then i ran a 2nd cable from the MBX to the card. The fan seems to spin with no issues.

UPDATE: I am connected via logmein and the card is seen in system profiler. Should I try to flash it?

Here is what I see in system profiler:

odd, If it was not install properly would I still see it in system profiler? I can go pick up another card. But I do want to make sure that its a bad card before I do. I am going to try booting to windows one more time.

No display on both ports... Off to Frys I am to get another card. Any suggestions as favorites?
 
one last thing you can try is to use both of the power cables on your x1900, one at a time. to rule out power issue.


for suggested cards, look into the last 10 pages

I did double check that and they power cords are good. I picked up another card at frys (not a 4890 since they are "discontinued") and am going to just boot to windows with it till I get another 4890 to allow me to boot OSX. My priority is playing Bad Company 2 on tuesday. Thanks for the help.
 
i have a 4890 and two 4870s for sale, flashed and tested, PM anyone if your interested

Good News and bad news.... I decided before giving up I wanted to make sure I was not getting a picture from windows for sure. So I removed my OSX HDD and sure enough I booted to windows and got a picture. So, I put the OSX HDD back in, connected via Log Me In and then flashed the card. I am now getting a picture but it looks like this. I am also not able to get a picture from windows, and I am not able to get into OSX completely......

I had choose the 4890 Mac Moddified non overclocked ROM. Did I do something wrong?
 
Picked up an XFX over the weekend, works great in the machine I flashed it in, but my new machine won't be here for a few more days to make sure everything works "just right" :)

I sincerely thank u for this thread which gives me a great hope to get a ATI 4870/4890 to flash as soon as possible. Your work here benefits us all!

Since your ATI flashing tool is easy and modified roms ready,I have downloaded these files to go. but I wonder if the 4870/4890 card has to be the exact model as u list(U only list XFX HD4870 ZDD ,ZWFL&ZWFC )? Does XFX HD4870 ZWF, YWF,YHF or YHD are also ok ? Is XFX 4890 ZDD ok? If the answer is no, could u kindly write the rom for me? I'd like to donate for your marvellous work,let alone u help me with this.

have never heard of YHF, ZDD etc. but if you dump the ROM in Windows and upload, it should be np.

i have order XFX HD4870 ZWF 1G adn HD4890 HD-489A-ZDD , have u ever heard of them?

By the way, should I install the card into a PC by doing these or just in Mac pro''s windows?
 
then:

get the card
insert in macpro
boot win
dump rom

upload rom here

wait until a modified rom is made

then follow instructions on page 1.

if you want to, wait until march 10 when I release new flashing tool. it will be safer and easier.
 
OH ,YES,finally i got it. but can I try it at first by using the listed rom? What consequnce might occur if it failed? I know it rather risky, maybe I should do as u told and wait for the new rom.
