It's a pretty simple process, actually. In my case, I booted with a 7300 GT in as well (this was with Cindori's old flashing tool), selected the ROM I needed, flashed the card, rebooted, then installed the QE/CI patch, and I was done. Risks? Very few if you think before you act and ask questions.

Ok that certainly makes sense. Is it a set and forget process or will it have to be reflashed with every os update, or when the next os is released?

the more I read up on this the more interesting this sounds... having trouble finding 4890 cards though, will this one work?

XFX ZDFC V5.4 Success!

I can confirm that the XFX 4890 ZDFC V5.4 ROM Cindori modified for me in post 2199 on pg. 88 works with his new Zeus flashing tool on a Mac Pro 3,1. Excellent results achieved in both OSX 10.6.2 and Windows 7. I do get the power cable error message upon 10.6.2 bootup but that's been the only issue. The process was dead simple thanks to the awesome Zeus tool. Thanks a million Cindori!!! Donation sent :)

sewing efi in rom

I'm at that point to 'sewing EFI in the rom'. Terminal open, type cd and drag and drop directory XYZ. Am I dropping the whoLe directory from XYZ ? Just the 4890 file? I d & d the 4890 rtf text. Just a tad confused at this point.

Both MCuCs are there, in OxED–in the 'new/nearly new rom. (XFX4890 ZDFC v5.3, 1,1-PM, nice card in windows-works fine)

you cant cd into a file. you can cd into a folder.

I updated the XYZ zip. Now the roms you make will be named MACMODIFIED.rom

?? what are you doing?

This what I did:
typed 'cd' in terminal-->dragged & dropped the contents of XYZ on Terminal-->opened the rtf 4890 file-->copied the command lines-->pasted the the CLs from the rtf 4890 into terminal-->

Then this:
dd: bs must be between 1 and -1
(frxxx-cxxxxys-computer:~ frxxxcxxxxy$ python fixrom.py EFIROM.rom MACMODIFIED.rom
python: can't open file 'fixrom.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory)-->hit return 2x.

I thought I understood, Cindori. I want this to work.

you must, of course, use a space after cd, and, of course, press enter after directory is dropped

you can cd manually by doing cd path/to/xyz
(from root of hard drive)

Thanks for your patience. The missing piece(s) of info I needed. And, I was 'D&D-ing the 'contents' and not the whole folder. Now, to see how well it works. Much appreciated, Cindori.

For whatever, is attached the xfx4890 zdfc v5.3 MODIFIED rom.

looks good to me

Quick question: I've installed the 4890 in slot 3-4 (with power to the molexes). Booted from the 1900 card. I don't see the 4890 listed in 'system profiler'... What are the possibilities in ZEUS, of flashing the 1900? Would I get an error message--since the 'chip' is only @ 64k?

update: I tried flashing with the new rom, 11-13 roms, powercolor, and so on. All failed. Flash aborted: 'identical to firmware, or Card not compatable with ROM or Zeus'. I'll do the 0xED once more.

And this: I had also tried the card with Natit installed thru Zeus, last night, and the screen was black. The xfx4890 works just fine in Windows.

if its not listed in sys profiler, ofc zeus can not find it either.

review your slot and power config.

And a question: Which pci slot did you use for each card? I can't get sys profiler to recognize my xfx card (slot 3). My 1900 was, of course, in slot 1--with the display connected. reversing the cards: xfx in slot 1, and 1900 in slot 3 with display connected, caused a kernel panic.

I stuck the 4890 in Slot 1 and the 7300 GT in Slot 2.

slot speeds are manually configured on 06/7

well, with my existing 1900 in slot 1, the xfx4890 in slot 2/3, with expansion slot utility (found in system/core services) and the setting changed from the default 16x, to 2/3 slots 8x-- ain't gonna cut it:
black screen...period. maybe, a 7300 has less bandwidth requirements. I suspect so. Shame my 7300 died @ a month ago; otherwise I'd might be another successful 'hot pa-tootie'!

So, I'll look into what I need to do...not discourage a bit.

4x is minimum

if the card does not appear in sys profiler in 4x slot or more, it's likely that card is either broken or does not have enough power. try it in windows?

Works fine in windows, spiffy card.
When installed on the mac side, the fan ran at full-bore! power-to-the-card problem? Tomorrow my ATI cables should arrive. I'll try with those attached, and the molexes powering the 1900.

ok sounds like OSX does not recognize the card. you will probably not be able to use zeus. try dos method.

I took 15 minutes out of my life to write your ROM.

Any chance you can find 30 seconds to tell us if it worked?

I haven't had a chance to try and flash it yet, I've gotta find an actual PC since my Mac won't boot with it installed after the first attempt at making a ROM (boot chime loop).

Once I do it, I'll happily let you know.

I'll try tomorrow with the MB cables attached to the xfx, molexes to the 1900.
Quiet as a whisper in windows. And, yes, I'm considering dos for the flash.

Let me say this: I appreciate what You, Rominator, Netkas and whoever & whatever have done to get so many member cards to work. It's terrific. My $10 big-ones well spent.

I'll report in tomorrow.

apythany: I'm going to pull a 7300gt today from one of our 1,1 MPs at work, bring it home and see if that fixes the slot problem.
