well, with my existing 1900 in slot 1, the xfx4890 in slot 2/3, with expansion slot utility (found in system/core services) and the setting changed from the default 16x, to 2/3 slots 8x-- ain't gonna cut it:
black screen...period. maybe, a 7300 has less bandwidth requirements. I suspect so. Shame my 7300 died @ a month ago; otherwise I'd might be another successful 'hot pa-tootie'!

So, I'll look into what I need to do...not discourage a bit.

here we go: I installed the new power cables to the 4890, molex cable to the 1900XT connected to Cine display. 4890 in slot 1, 1900XT in slot 3. Booted, screen came up along with expansion slot manager—showing 2 cards recognized! Sys Profiler showed the 1900XT and in slot 1, another generic described 'device'.
Zeus loaded the natit & ATI, during the driver install, a 'kernel panic' forced a restart. Now the 4890 is fully recognized in system profiler in detail(?) So, I went to flash the rom. Can't find my MODIFIED.ROM? Did it flash? And disappear?

flashing should not consume rom.

Nor did it. But I can't figure out where I stashed the new rom. So, I downloaded what I had 'attached' yesterday in a post. And it works. minor horiz. lines (pixels) when I drag the mouse. Any ideas on that Cindori?
No, power cable missing message—after I removed the 1900XT. So it was the lack of ati cable(s)—and using the molexes that were underpowering the 4890(?) going to boot into Win and see whats-what.

I booted into my 1.5.8 HD and and no horiz. lines with mouse movement. Just perfect! I wondering why SL on my install HD has that problem...
Now, I booted into my other 10.6.2 HD and ab-sol-ut-ley perfect! Just the power cable warning. No artifacts. I'm a hot pa-tuttie now!
Big thanks, Cindori, Rominator, Netkas!! Big thanks! XOX =OP

But, below is the mac rom, created from the xfx 4890 zdfx v5.3 rom, that works.

Hi Cindori, i'm trying to flash a XFX HD-4890-ZSFC version 2.0. The link you posted some pages before doesn't work anymore. Could you upload the modified rom again?

Thank you so much!

Flashing a Radeon HD4870 1Go

Hi

The Mac Pro 3.1 can't boot as soon as I plug the 4870 in the slot n°1 ( a dark grey screen falls from top to bottom asking to reboot the machine).

I use Zeus I installed Natit, downloaded QECI 1062

Taking the 4870 out of the MacPro allows the system to boot properly.

Longing for some help

4890 cooler-

Morning all- I've been searching around for a cooler for the 4890. I was running a thermaltake sorb on my 1900xt that works very well–but haven't seen a cooler that would work with the 4890. Looks like the same cooler would fit the same bracket as the 'sorb'. what options are out there?

The only title I can see is on the card itself ( Radeon HD4870 1Go) 'cause there's no way to boot with it in the Mac Pro

Hey all, sorry I have been absent. Much afoot recently in Tinseltown. Right now I am getting buzzed violently by a swarm of Helicopters at Oscars which is like 3 blocks from me.

Anyhow, I was reading the EBay 4890 ad that Netkas noticed and I read something I could test. It stated that ALL 4890s have an issue running a 30" Display while running a 24" display. It also stated that if only the 4890 was connected, the problem would go away.

I went ahead and tried this with the MSI 4890 I have here. Sure enough, horizontal tearing on 30" while 24" was connected, went away if I removed DVI plug from 24" Dell.

Can anyone else with a 4890, 30" and another display on 2nd DVI confirm or deny this? I tried with my trusty old XFX4870 and there was no tearing.

Curious if there is a 4890 that is exempt from this behavior, as the XFX 4870s were exempt from 2nd display issues in Leopard.

Yes, I am experiencing exactly this with a Dell 30" and a Dell 22" both connected to my modded XFX ZFSC V1.6 4890. The 30" "tears", as you call it, randomly and very annoyingly. Remove the 22" monitor, and it works fine.

Has anyone got any traction on this problem, or has it essentially been unfixable? Thanks.

thank you !!!

the card works with the natit, it's great !!!

I tried to flash it with zeus but it doesn't work, I'll try the bootcd method.

XfX Zsfc 3.1 flashed

Hi Cindori,

a short message to tell u that the card is flashed now with the bootcd method and it works perfectly without the natit.

Again big thanks !!!!

Power cable setup / requirements on xfx 4890

I am upgrading my current 8800 to a xfx 4890 that should arrive in a few days. I have one 6 pin power cable that came with the 8800. I did not order another 6 pin power cable yet and after reading through the forum pages figure the best approach is to get another one.

My question is can I run the card from one 6 pin cable connected to the motherboard, and run the other 6 pin connection using the molex splitter provided with the card temporarily? Was not sure if this would cause some back voltage, damage to the PSU or other wierd operation.
