Redneck wanna test ? I combined fixforfix and qeci patch to make working patch. works fine for me but If you could be arsed to reinstall combo update and then this and see how things act out. it would help a lotta ppl.
thanks for donation :)

p.s my first time making installer pkg

Your patch works fine. Both dvi ports are working, there's no artifacts on startup, and my fan speed is back in control. Hope this helps.

XFX HD-489x-ZSFC ver 1.6

10.6.3 update yesterday left me with working video but no accelo on my 4890 (30" main screen). The GT120 (dual flanking 24"s) was fine. Acceleration was not working and fan was at full blast. Read through this thread yesterday and downloaded a few updates but didn't install anything.

Machine had black screen this morning most likely due to sleep mode kicking in with the bad driver so I knew I needed to do something.

Redownloaded a fresh Zeus this morning. Updated driver from within. Installed ati driver once updated.

Rebooted and back to normal with accelo on all 3 monitors and fan is now heat sensitive again.

Big thanks to Cindori, and netkas.org, for helping us out. Really considering dumping Mac OS X and going back to Ubuntu now that 10.04 is coming out. This Mac Pro is a dog.

great news!

Zeus will now use that patch instead.

Hey guys, I've just been through the process and I'm only getting output from one port. I'm running a Sapphire New Edition, with Hynix chips and it's got a DVI and DisplayPort, model 11150-11-20R. On boot I get output through DisplayPort to the primary monitor, then after the Apple logo on the blue screen the DisplayPort loses output and the DVI comes on. I updated through the combo update and tried it a couple of times and I've just ran Cindori's fixcombo.zip on the off chance but that didn't work.

Happy to run some stuff or provide more details if required.

p.s. Cindori, the button for donations here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/877441/ is giving a fatal error warning

Thanks Cindori, you legend, worked a treat. I clearly misread the posts above, I thought the dual dvi stuff had been moved in to the Zeus package and the fixcombo.

the qeci pkg is patched 10.6.3 drivers and framebuffers with new device id's

however 10.6.3 framebuffers give dual output problem for some ppl
so the dualdvi.zip contains 10.6.2 framebuffers that still works great.

I tried to install the QE/CI from Netkas' website and it appears that I might have inadvertently gotten an older version. I am reinstalling the 10.6.3 patch then going to use the version in Zeus. To make sure I am seeing this correctly, if it will only display on 1 monitor I need to use the dual dvi patch.

***Update***
Dual displays are back with the Zeus driver.

dualdvi is maybe bad name. it seems that the dualdvi.zip is only needed for people with excotic outputs - hdmi, vga or displayport - as second port on their cards.

so far i've heard all ppl with 2 DVI cards have been content with only the QECI from zeus

Yes, I know. Nothing like an update from Apple to drag all the dinosaurs back out to this thread.

I have the 4890 (SS) and It's pretty much acting like I need to update some plugin or something. Where to begin?

Cindori.

The installer you put together, is there anything else I need to know to use it properly? Do I need to still do the combo update and install before the restart?

Can you offer a few words of direction here?

Ok. I have it sorted out for my MacPro 1,1 with the New edition Sapphire 4890.

Treksdot, watch this closely.

- I download the 10.6.3 Combo update (Holly *&*@#! that's a big update)
- Download Cindori's awesome no mess ATI Driver Patch http://groths.org/fixcombo.zip
- Installed the 10.6.3 Combo update, but didn't restart just yet.
- Installed the ATI Driver Patch (fixcomb.zip)
- Restart.

[edit:insert new instruction] If you find that games or other apps have stone-age frame rates, download and install the dual DVI zip file. http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip
All is good.

@Cindori: The next time you build something, call me for the graphics. I'm a Graphic Designer (accredited) and would love to add some fun to something like that.

Thanks guys.

Ouch!

OK. The artifacts are gone, the errors for playing movies and games are gone, but the framerate... gaaaa.... It's like a third what it was.

HD Movies play ok (not really a graphics demand), but games... it's like I'm back in my old quicksilver.

Quartz is working, but for some reason I think OPGL (or whatever is similar these days) isn't on.

Any ideas?

OK. I shouldn't do this so late at night. It's fixed with the dual DVI fix thingy. I've going to edit my previous post for anyone else to follow.

zeus update function is broken in the first release. if you have zeus on your computer, remove it and redownload from http://groths.org/zeus/zeus.zip

Now, go to Driver and click Update

after the update, 10.6.3 is available from the OS list. then just install the patch.

you must do this AFTER you have installed the OSX 10.6.3

Thanks SO, SO MUCH for the update.

By the way, I think it should be convenient to remark on the The Golden Guide to Flashing Graphic Cards to be careful when updating or upgrading Mac OS. The problems with my ATI Radeon 4890 HD (Powercolor with cover) took me completely by surprise after updating from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3. Should I have known that installing an update could cause problems I would have defenitely NOT upgraded until reading about compatibility issues (I lost 3D effects and one of the DVI outputs). Luckly, you were there with the update for QE_CI which, by the way, completely solved my problems.

Again, thanks SO much.

For those interested to know, nothing in the 10.6.3 update resolved the screen tear issue on 30" monitors when a second monitor is also connected to my XFX 4890. Seems this problem just won't go away any time soon.

Back in the box goes the 4890.

That's strange! It hasn't fixed my screening tearing issue at all!

I was able to update to 10.6.3 and applied the patch via zeus. All seems well, frame rate in games appears to be the same as well.

I am on a early 09 MP with a 4890. I do still get the mulitcolor snow when I toggle inputs on the LCD though. Was hoping that was going go away with the update...

Could someone please take a look at my BIOS image, and, if they're feeling adventurous, mod it to get Mac compatibility? The ports on the card are dual-dvi, displayport, and hdmi. I've tried using Zeus, but I get a black screen when I reboot after installation.

Thanks!

Where are you guys getting a 4890? I've checked newegg, amazon, frys, td, and everything is out of stock. Can anyone pass a link along to a card that will work and is in stock? Or do I gotta go dive into ebay?

Here's one from NewEgg. I also recall seeing at least three or four 4890s on Amazon the last time I checked, though that was a few weeks ago.

Cindori, just got my replacement 4890 from HIS and flashing it was again a piece of cake. Thanks for all your hard work. :)

This is for Mackilroy

The website that you just gave confuses me a bit because it doesn't show the same picture that resembles what is on the "Golden Guide" pics (http://www.groths.org/?page_id=74). And what about the model numbers? They too are not on the "Golden Guide" page. Whatever help anyone can give would be awesome, thanks PNugg...

Here's more detail for anyone who reads this

Hey Cindori (and everyone else),

1) I wanted to say THANK YOU for all your time and help putting together a sight like this for people (like myself) wanting to make our Macs better (seeing as Apple doesn't want to push themselves in this way, and when they make that "effort" they OVERCHARGE YOU for those cards).

2) I also wanted to THANK Peloche for making that fantastic table chart and EVERYONE ELSE for contributing towards this universal effort towards making our Macs better.

When I'm done getting the right card and going through the process I will make sure to contribute towards your efforts toward keeping this site up, as I want to encourage others to do as I know this takes time to help others in this way. Now onto my current question/issue. I'm seeing a universal (small) issue with the 4870's, 4870x2's and the 4890 install from various people on here. So I guess what the real issue is NOT so much between the 3 different ATI cards but how it's being installed AND how it will work with your version of your Mac. So I've decided to go with the 4890. But as I look at the pics and see the chart that was provided by Peloche I'm wanting to make sure I'm getting the right card for my Mac. Here are two site links:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150438&cm_re=4890-_-14-150-438-_-Product

and this one:

http://www.antonline.com/p_HD489AZDFC-GA_608240.htm?gclid=CIei6Jvn8qACFRkcswod1yDIFQ

Now I know that the second site I gave you does NOT have that available but even though it's and XFX 4890 card that "looks" similar to the pic that's on the "Golden Guide" chart it may have a different model number. This is what confuses me and I want to make sure I buy the right card to use your program and other sites to get the card to work with my Intel Xeon Dual 3.0 GHz Mac Tower (December 2006 - Ver. 1.1). ANY HELP ANYONE CAN GIVE WOULD BE AWESOME !!!

Hey everyone here are other links. What to choose...

How about these cards?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...02849R&cm_re=ati_4870-_-14-102-849R-_-Product

Even though it’s a 4870 and not a 4890, can this still be used although it could be a different model than another SAPPHIRE 4870 card? I want to be clear I’m NOT partial to getting the 4890 OVER the 4870. I just want a 1GB card that will work with my DELL 30″ (model # 3007WFP). I’m tired of having my ATI X1900 card overheating and locking up my system and creating dashed lines across my screen randomly and blacking out of my screen. Again, anyone that can help me that would be great. Lastly what about this card? it’s already flashed and it’s only $249.00? (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ATI-Radeon-...o_TV_Cards?hash=item2559d7f76b#ht_1283wt_1167)

Thanks again !!!
