By the way...

I spoke to that guy on ebay that selling this card:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ATI-Radeon-...o_TV_Cards?hash=item2559d7f76b#ht_1283wt_1167

and he said that it wasn't test on the 30". That was his only concern. Also he mentioned that when you start your Mac it mentions a power cable issue but to ignore it (just like is mentioned on your "Golden Guide" page). Again any help would be awesome !!! Thanks...

Thanks again !!!

How about these cards?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...02849R&cm_re=ati_4870-_-14-102-849R-_-Product

Even though it’s a 4870 and not a 4890, can this still be used although it could be a different model than another SAPPHIRE 4870 card? I want to be clear I’m NOT partial to getting the 4890 OVER the 4870. I just want a 1GB card that will work with my DELL 30″ (model # 3007WFP). I’m tired of having my ATI X1900 card overheating and locking up my system and creating dashed lines across my screen randomly and blacking out of my screen. Again, anyone that can help me that would be great. Lastly what about this card? it’s already flashed and it’s only $249.00? (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ATI-Radeon-...o_TV_Cards?hash=item2559d7f76b#ht_1283wt_1167)

Thanks again !!!

Far too expensive. You could very nearly buy two 1 GB 4870s for that price.

Okay what about this link?

What about this one with this model number XFX HD487AZWFC?

http://www.katerno.com/detail/s/145...B-DDR5-2DVI-PCI-Express-Video-Card—HD487AZWFC

Will this one work. I don't mind if I spend $160 when I could wait a week to buy for $125. I don't have time. I have to get productive as soon as I can. So I'm okay with spending a few dollars extra. Better $160 than buying one from Apple with HALF the ram for $350. Thanks... I look forward to your reply... :)

Probably. I couldn't say for certain, but I recall Cindori posting a while back about how even though none of the cards that were originally supported were still offered, all the new ones that people had been buying were still working after new ROMs were written for them.

So as long as you dump your ROM via GPU-Z before you try flashing it, you should be all right.

The ZWxx cards are not best option.

They needed the same Dual DVI fixes as 4890, while earlier XFX 1Gig 4870 cards didn't. they are also significantly slower.

So I think I posted this on the wrong thread, can anyone help?

I've been reading through these threads (not all 97 odd pages of the ultimate thread but a fair amount) and I am still a bit unclear on the ROM issues. I was looking at this card since it seems like a great price.

Correct Steps

Hi guys, i've been reading through a lot (but not all) of these forum posts about making ATI 4890 and 4870 PC video cards work in a mac so i thought i'd give it a go myself. I'm really new to all this so i was hoping someone (Cindori??) could verify the actual steps before i actually do it (and probably kill my new card).

I've purchased a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4890 (which i think is a New Edition card) to put in my 2006 Mac Pro. I've also got the 2 mac specific power cables for the card.

Here are the card specs:

Model: HD4890 1GB DDR5 PCI-E HDMI/DVI-I/DP
P/N: 288-1E115-D20SA
SKU# 11150-11
(it has 1x DVI, 1x Display Port and 1x HDMI port)

And my mac is a 2006 Mac Pro running 10.6.3 (and Bootcamp Windows 7) with a 20" DVI Cinema Display

After looking at the Golden Guide, are these the steps to get the card working?

1 - Open my Mac Pro and take the existing video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT) out of pci slot 1 and put it in pci slot 2.

2 - Put the ATI 4890 in pci slot 1. (as in these pics: http://nuxx.net/gallery/v/acquired_stuff/ati_radeon_hd_4870/)

3 - Connect the 2 power cables from the motherboard to the video card.

4 - Start up the Mac, download Zeus (http://groths.org/zeus/zeus.zip) and use it to get the existing ROM off the card (which i should keep somewhere).

5 - Use Zeus to put a new ROM onto the card.

6 - Use Zeus to update / patch the mac video drivers.

And it should then work in Mac OS X 10.6.3?? Have i missed anything? Do i need to install anything from http://netkas.org or this site: http://boeglin.org/blog/index.php?entry=entry090918-031702 ?

Also, do i need to do anything when i start up in Windows 7 (bootcamp) or will it just work?

Thanks in advance and thanks for such a great resource!

my attempt just bricked it, gonna reflash in PC
im eager to try out yours

The 80 deal is trouble. The original ROM had to be shortened to fit all 3 pieces in. Had to do same thing for that Grue guy. I don't believe he ever showed courtesy of telling us if it worked or not. So I don't know if method I used is good or not.

I have done ROMs for both of you guys who just asked. They should work but please post results. I have only had a few hours sleep in last few nights.

To all the others posting the same questions over and over and over, page after page after page, please take some time to read Cindori's Guide. He has tried very hard to cover all of the bases. We would rather give support to people with EXCEPTIONAL cases, not people who have same issues as everyone else....people who could just read a little harder and think a little harder.

Let us use our time to help those who REALLY need help, not just the people who want someone to hold their hand. For the most part, the answers are there, you just need to look.

Hi. (Hej Cindori :))
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before in the thread, but i would like a definite answer.
Is there a 4890-card with 1 or 2 Mini Display-Ports that someone has managed to get working with the Mac Pro?
The reason why I'm asking, is because the Mac Pro i've bought has a 2600-card, and i would like to upgrade. And it feels kind of a waste to need to get a 4890 for performance, but also have to buy a GT120 to use one or two ACD 24''.

Thanks!
