The app is actually decent on Mac M1 now, I live in a place where people like to use facebook messenger a lot so this is a god sent.

Anyway, I used to follow isapplesiliconready but it doesn't seem to get update anymore.
Know the feeling same here. Just hoping they fix Whats App soon

I'm wondering when Logitech will release G-hub and Logitune as AS-native/Universal apps. Doesn't seem like they've even started it.

Yeah it’s my last Intel app, but it is actually working fine especially if you compare it with Razer and some other mice/keyboards vendors. I think they eventually but no idea when, the Logitech options + was also suddenly native so let’s hope.

I still have a bunch of Intel 64 apps, as identified by the Silicon app. - 56 to be exact. They are mostly smaller hardware-related utilities, but there are a few bigger ones as well, and I wonder if I should ever expect these to get updated. It's too many to check individually, and so I rely on MacUpdater to do the job for me.

My question is; should I even care? And, should I expect these to be updated one day?

Bigger apps I am waiting to get updated to Universal:

- Adobe Animate
- Audacity
- Epic Game Launcher
- MetroExodus
- MindManager
- Origin
- Skype
- Steam
- Tor Browser
- WhatsApp

Hardware-related apps I use on a frequent basis:

- Nikon's Camera Control, NX Studio, and Picture Control Utility
- Canon IJ Scan Manager
- Divvy
- LG's Dual Controller, and Calibration Studio
- LogiTech's G Hub, and LogiTune
- Qfinder Pro

And, should I expect these to be updated one day?

- Audacity
Audacity 3.2.0 Alpha 1 (arm64) - https://github.com/audacity/audacity/releases

I'm sure I'll hear from the purists that this is an alpha and not a final release. I have no qualms using silicon native apps that are alpha and beta since I refuse to use Rosetta 2.

I'm waiting for Adobe Reader, Skype, and Splashtop Personal, but have zero faith in these companies.

Adobe Reader is a universal app now.
Nope, it sure ain't, with regards to Adobe Reader being silicon native. Just downloaded it now to see if anything had changed. If I need to use Rosetta 2 to install an app, in my book, it's not universal. I agree with the folks here - https://community.adobe.com/t5/down...apps-on-m1-macs-without-rosetta/td-p/12213642 .

Splashtop Business just got a native silicon update at version 3.5.2.0, but Personal is still stuck at 3.5.0.3, so we're probably getting closer to a universal build.

Folks, anyone know a good alternative to AdGuard for safari, that does not live in your menu bar? That would of course also be native.

Didn’t find it referenced in the thread, but I went to download a new version of Anki (flash cards app) and noticed it has an Apple Silicon version now. Well, since June really. I’m not sure anything I do with it is taxing enough for the extra efficiency of a native app to really matter, but it was nice to see - and I know that some people go all out with apps with embedded media, etc, so it may make a difference for them.

Notice Citrix Workspace is not on the list, I added it the beta section as 2206 Technical Preview is native.

It's been out for a few months without any major hiccups. I suppose unless one requires 2208 update fixes this is fine to run your prod apps on until they merge into a universal installer probably in a month or so. Citrix also stated their intentions to discontinue Rosetta at some point in the future.

Been using since initial launch and no issues detected. It fixed my Citrix Viewer memory leak of 2GB over many hours of usage.

Yeah, I remember that one. First thing I did was leave a VM open overnight for days as one of my first tests just to ensure I could use this in production work.

How do you even notice Rosetta is running? Unless you look for it you win’t know…

Also technically Rosetta only runs once per application per release since it converts the executable from an Intel one to an Apple Silicon one. After that Rosetta doesn’t run as the application is effectively an Apple Silicon app at that point.

The main difference is that Rosetta converted applications aren’t natively compiled as Apple Silicon so any Apple specific compiler optimizations aren’t done.

It’s consuming 3GB of RAM alone and it’s full of audio glitches.

Yeah, I don't think so. I am running a handful of apps classified as Intel-Only Apps, and even when I start up another Intel-Only app, there is nothing that opens up at the same time, and certainly nothing that takes up a significant amount of RAM on my Mac Studio.

At any moment in time, I have a handful of Intel apps running, like LogiTune, AJAAgent, and Divvy, and even when I start up like Adobe Animate 2022, nothing out of the ordinary starts up as well. So, I don't know how you can say that Rosetta consumes 3GB if RAM - it doesn't on my system.

What do you see to indicate such memory usage. When I run an app that needs Rosetta I don’t see anything taking up significant extra RAM or CPU.

Audio processing apps do often use separate plugins that are not transpiled by Rosetta so that might be a source of those glitches you hear. It’s less common now but I’d not be surprised if there is still software out there that has not been updated in a while.

SAP GUI now native on Apple Silicon! It's only using 400MB down from 1,2GB! It's really really fast!

As a sample, comparing the Intel version and Apple silicon version from startup, connecting to a system and navigating through a few transactions like se80, va01, migo, mm03 etc., resulted in following numbers on a MacBook Pro with M1 Max:

SAP GUI for Java 7.80Intel versionARM version
elapsed time (s) *)3015
CPU usage (s) **)5122
memory usage (MB) **)900600
*) manual stop watch **) numbers from Activity Monitor

With this native build for Apple silicon, SAP GUI for Java also is prepared for the day, Apple will remove Rosetta2 from the OS like done before with the compatibility layer for PowerPC after the switch to Intel CPUs.
