How much battery is drained over the night? Are shutting down over the night or you close the lid?

Did you install any ROM extension in order to reduce the power consumption in idle of the Samsung Evo Plus? It was demonstrated that it is consuming more power in idle than other SSDs.with close lid without charge battery doesn't decrease overnight.
No, didn't install anything. And the temperature seems the same like with original hdd.Did you install any ROM extension in order to reduce the power consumption in idle of the Samsung Evo Plus? It was demonstrated that it is consuming more power in idle than other SSDs.
I wish to have an Evo Plus to test on my MBP to see the differences. No, didn't install anything. And the temperature seems the same like with original hdd.
The WiFi issues is not due to your upgrade, but rather the macOS problem itself, especially on BigSur. Somehow the WiFi connection is simply awful, it will disconnecting after few seconds of first connection. But if you reconnect it, then it would work just fine. At least that's what i experience with half or dozens of my customer's macbook. It even happened on my 2020 MBP (it solved in Ventura tho)Thanks to your contribution to this thread I have installed Kioxia EXCERIA G2 with a generic NVMe M.2 to 12+16 pin adapter (clean soldering of the pins) on my MBPr 13" mid 2014 and is working as @otosan explained in the last pages (no issue with sleep, wake up and hibernation, no black screens).
I've made a clean install of Big Sur directly to the SDD in an enclosure, directly Time Machine from the original SDD and after that I swapped the old drive with the new one.
You can see the new speeds bellow and the Link Width is now x4.

I have one issue as expected for mid 2014 MBP - the drain of the battery when is on hibernation (about 10% in 10h).
Any suggestion to reduce the power in hibernation of the SSD?
I have also an issue that I was not expected to have it: my 2.4GHz wi-fi connection (which was working very well with the old SDD) is keep disconnecting or has very low speed. The 5GHz one is stable and working flawless. I so in some posts in this thread (in 2022) a complaint about that after the SDD changing (maybe MBP 2013-1014), but I can't find it . I've tried PRAM and SMC reset.
Do you have any recommendation for this issue?
Thanks!
Mind you that 15" model has better thermal & cooling, not to mention the ssd position has much better space and airflow as well compared to 13"Did you install any ROM extension in order to reduce the power consumption in idle of the Samsung Evo Plus? Thanks for the answer. I thought that the OS might be the source of WiFi issue, but it seemed to worked before swapping the SSD. I had some issues with the Bluetooth also when it didn't recognized some headphones and mouse. A forget device and new pairing solved the issue. I'll try to use OC and install Ventura. I hope my MBP will support this. The WiFi issues is not due to your upgrade, but rather the macOS problem itself, especially on BigSur. Most of them got the issue resolved after updating to Monterey. Your 2014 model doesn't support Monterey or Ventura natively, but you might want to try to install in using OpenCore patcher. OpenCore has some NVME fix included that might solve your drain issue as well,
although, the drain is not supposed to happen anymore in newer System Firmware. You might want to try to run this command in terminal as well :
sudo pmset -a powernap 0 standby 1 standbydelayhigh 1500 standbydelaylow 1500 hibernatemode 3
Very good points to take into account for my issue. Glad to here is not a MBP model issue.Mind you that 15" model has better thermal & cooling, not to mention the ssd position has much better space and airflow as well compared to 13"
so it might experience difference temp/ perf.
But as he said, any 2013-2014 models with newer firmware should not facing overnight battery drain, unless battery itself is deteriorated or there's short to the board (example, if your screw or ssd component are touching the base cover). During trial, i left one 2014 macbook with upgraded SSD in sleep/hibernation state for a week. It only lost 3% of battery.
Yes the SN570 is fully supported in macOS. TRIM works as well. Make sure to read up on sleep/hiberation since you have a pre-2015 MBP.I have been lingering around here for some time hoping to get 1 answer but not able to find any,,
Can someone help me,, I am planning to upgrade my storage and In my location WD ssd’s seems to be popular and trusted and a bit cheaper rather than other ssd’s ‘Does WD blue SN570 work with MBP 2014’ Please help me should i consider buying this ssd WD BLUE SN 570

Also little bit confused as shown in the attached files it says WD SN570 doesn’t work. i think the thread is lil bit old, does this counts on todays date, or has the firmware on sn570 been updated so its compatible with MBP. Kindly please clear my confusion as i dont want to waste my money on ssd if it doesnt work.Yes the SN570 is fully supported in macOS. TRIM works as well. The wiki post is getting quite old and out of date now. For example, the 970 Evo Plus does not work with TRIM on Monterey and later, and without it the drive is quite buggy. Also little bit confused as shown in the attached files it says WD SN570 doesn’t work. i think the thread is lil bit old, does this counts on todays date, or has the firmware on sn570 been updated so its compatible with MBP. No I haven't, but it's relatively well known info these days. Ever since the beta releases of Monterey, people having been complaining about Samsung drives being very buggy or just not being detected at all.I assume you got the 1TB 970 you were talking about and tested it yourself?
Thanks @theMarble , Now i can buy the ssd with ease of mind.. Thanks a lot .. Have a great day.The wiki post is getting quite old and out of date now. For example, the 970 Evo Plus does not work with TRIM on Monterey and later, and without it the drive is quite buggy.
The SN570 does work, you can look at posts over the last year or so to check. Also take a look at the "ssd hall of fame needs updating" request on OpenCore's GitHub. The SN550, SN570, SN750 & SN850 all work great as long as you have the latest firmware on the drive and computer.
Modern Samsung drives are a no go if you want to run Monterey and/or Ventura. That includes the 970 Evo Plus, 980 & 980 Pro.
Hibernation is not a problem anymore.Also one more thing;
Has the hybernation problem in macbook pro 2013-2014 problem with third party ssd has been fixed with latest mac os or is it still there, anyone please clear me this out?
Or do we still needs perform the work around methods??
“Also somewhere in this thread i think i came across saying hybernation is not a problem as latest mac os has updated the driver and so on but now now am not able to find that thread.. “
Thanks for the help.Hibernation is not a problem anymore.
Apple solved it some time ago. I don't remember exactly the year, but maybe 2019/2020.
EDIT:
Upgrading 2013/2014 Macbook Pro SSD to M.2 NVMe
I can confirm that 424.0.0.0 FIXED the hibernation issue for my MacBook Pro Mid 2014. I'm back in Catalina and there are no issues with the new bootrom+Catalina so far. This is what I used to confirm: $ sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25 $ sudo pmset -a standby 1 $ sudo pmset -a standbydelayhigh...

Read the last bit of my comment that you quoted. The 970 Evo Plus is only a bad choice on Monterey+, Big Sur and lower are perfectly fine.I have big sur with samsung 970 evo plus without any problem
