It is an m1 limitation for the dual usb4 ports and 16gb ram
The M1x from the next 14” will offer 4 ports and supp for multiple displays 4 ports and 32 gb ram
The 16” will come on the new A15 gen 2 5nm+ With support for 32 and 64 gb ram. Probably it will be called M2 with bigger gpu on the SoC
The big question is will it have a strong GPU like the XTR5600M?

Part of me wants to wait for a 14" MBP with 32gb, extra monitor support, extra cores, etc. I wonder though how much extra $$ I'll have the privilege of paying to get a 14" specced like that. I wonder too if I want to deal with issues arising from brand new build processes with mini-LEDs, chassis redesign, and anything else new.

I think it'll be the MBA 8/8core-16gb-512ssd for me. There are some projects I'm itching to start one and this beast should run admirably for years, one hopes.

Of course that's in your opinion.

Fair enough if that's what you think, and while I wish it were going to happen, I reckon it's just a bit of wishful thinking.

They aren't going to release a 14" M1X and at the same time a 16" M2 in my opinion. That's just not gonna happen. And if they were to put the M2 into the 16 then it means it's not getting released until fall. That's a long time between drinks for the 16. About 2 years.

I wonder if Apple wanted to get a 16 out the door earlier so they could do a 16 M2 in Oct/Nov.

Today was the last day for me to return my M1 MBP for one with more storage. Debated exchanging for 1TB M1 as a comfortable long-term laptop, but decided to keep this as placeholder to sell it for the 14" redesign MBP and get 1TB with that.

Probably the 14" MBP with 32 gb ram and 512 SSD will be 2199$

Of course its my opinion but since i never was wrong, for now , its clear i can ,know Apple marketing strategy for the mac line up
The 14" and 16" cannot share the same SoC....maybe only IF apple wants to offer an lower cost 16" MBP that starts with M1X for under 2000$ ...but with M2 the 16" MBP 16gb ram and 512 SSD and bigger integrated gpu SoC will start probably at 2399$
I dont think Apple can or will come out of the door earlier than WWDC with the M2 that will be based on the second 5nm gen, like the iphone 13 will be too, and probably the bigger imac also
Again, all of these are based on my opinion and what i think Apple will do, like always until Apple made them officially:) but dont expect to be far off

Quick question - when rumors talk about a possible release of an M1(X) 16” MBP in Q2, do they then mean calendar Q2 or financial Q2?

Because AFAIK Apple’s financial Q2 goes from December 31 to the end of March. At least that was what it used to do.

Member for 3 months and you've never been wrong! Haha.
In my fantasyland I've never been wrong either...

I won't disagree with you on price. I personally believe that Apple will raise the price on the new redesigned 14 and 16 even though Kuo believes not. I'm certainly not sure about it though and would be happy if they don't.

Of course they won't come out the door earlier than WWDC with M2! That's the biggest non-prediction I've ever read! I don't think Apple will come out with a new iPhone before WWDC. There, I did the same thing!

Does it matter for how long im a member or how many times i was right?! dooh
If somebody just join today and tell us the whole year releases with every spec from apple and he will be right, then kudos for him and good for us even if he was member for 1 day
But this is irelevant, here we talk about what could or will apple come this year
Hey you were the one who asked if apple could come early with the M2.. not me and i told you that not earlier than wwdc and told you also why
(many heroes show after the war ah?!)
Im very curious from you to tell us what will apple release with specifics and when after that i will tell you my list also

But No one asked (like youve asked about the M2 16” )That's the biggest non-prediction I've ever read! Please don’t tell us that at WWDC apple will announce new software too :)
There are many people that still thinks the 16” will come in March and the mac pro at wwdc

No it doesn't. But there is this pesky little thing called a track record! You know, where you've predicted correctly in the PAST. And if your assertions all come true then you should really buy some lotto tickets!

Hey you were the one who asked if apple could come early with the M2.. not me and i told you that not earlier than wwdc and told you also why
Er... no. I didn't ask about that at all. I wondered aloud that IF Apple had released a 16 with the M1 with the 13 MBP and Air (as was the rumor last year) then we probably would have got an M2 16 in Oct/Nov. Instead now, looks like we are getting an M1X 16 with all the bells and whistles.

It will be interesting to see where the release schedule settles in the future in terms of what get the new A or M chips first.

In the great SoC battle of Late 2020 where many an Intel died on the circuitry battlefield there were indeed 2 heroes who stood tallest and those heroes were called AIR and MBP.

As for my predictions. I'm pretty sure I wrote them a few posts ago. Perhaps it was another thread.

1. I couldn't care less about iPads and when they will be released. Plus there are so many iterations of iPad that even Tim Cook is confused by their line up!
2. I couldn't care less about iMacs and when they will be released. I've got a 2019 intel 27inch so I'm not in the market for one and don't follow the stories on them.
3. the 14 and 16 inch MBP will be released May-July 2021. I'm guessing we'll get all the rumoured upgrades except I'm not 100% that we'll get FaceID. I hope we do, but it's possible we won't. I think the price will be higher, but I won't be surprised if it is the same price either. I'm hoping for the latter.
5. I'll boldly state there there won't be a 13" MBP released this year if ever again. I think it's a dodo.
6. Going from Rumors there will be a MBA M1X in first quarter of 22.
7. The Mac Pro more than likely won't see a release until late 21 early 22. My guess is 1Q 22.
8. The might be a higher spec Mini released in Oct/Nov, but no idea. Not really interested in that either.

There you go. Happy to be wrong though. It's all just a bit of a lark!

There are many people that still thinks the 16” will come in March and the mac pro at wwdc
Many? Really? There was only one other poster who was stating that from what I saw and they write suspiciously like you! haha.

Any new rumors on the next Macbook Pro 16-inch?
Will Apple release both an M1X/M2 and an Intel Tiger Lake-H model?

Seems possible that there may still be an Apple SoC model with AMD discrete graphics.

Lisa Su, AMD President and CEO (January 12, 2021): ‘The M1 is more about how much processing and innovation there is in the market. This is an opportunity to innovate more, both in hardware and software, and it goes beyond the ISA. From our standpoint, there is still innovation in the PC space – we have lots of choices and people can use the same processors in a lot of different environments. We expect to see more specialization as we go forward over the next couple of years, and it enables more differentiation. But Apple continues to work with us as their graphics partner, and we work with them.’

I prefer the 16" form factor, but I am very impatient and will order whatever comes out first, 14" or 16" AS MBP.
I heard rumors of either having a chance to release in March or in June (June sounds more likely since WWDC) but I am holding out for March. I almost bought an M1 MBP 13" today since it is my birthday and I was feeling impulsive but resisted the urge to wait for March.

I identify with you haha I am willing to take a small loss if the 14" & 16" are as compelling as the rumors have been.

I think your loss will be more than small, unless you consider $300 (or so) small.

I needed a computer now, I do not wait based on rumors. Having said that, the rumors around the 14" & 16" are very attractive. I am ready to take a few-hundred dollar loss.
