I HUNGER
I know some people are hoping for a 16 or 14 without the Touch Bar but I'll be shocked if there is a choice. There are rumors of haptic/force touch with the Touch Bar so if that's true, there is not going to be a choice.

I also don't think we'll see these machines in March. Although I very much hope I'm wrong... It would be bad if we had to wait until October to get our hands on these. If that happens they really should have released a bog standard 16 with M1 inside like they did with the Mini, Air and 13 Pro. But it seems the ports and graphics were the issue and they didn't want to release an underpowered or underported piece of kit.

It will be interesting to see what new features the 14" comes with, and whether or not it will have the Touch Bar.
I was tempted to wait for the 14in too but if they do a body redesign like I suspect (mini-LED and more) then I'm ok waiting for a later revision with physical bugs worked out.

Kuo published a new report regarding the MBPs and you should see it soon:
iPhone 12 like flat design
No touchbar
14 and 16
MagSafe
More variations of I/O port
Same thermal design as current 16 for both 14 and 16

As expected, but glad Kuo came and gives us more detailed specs. flat design...expect the same design language as the razer blade laptops
So it seems no 14" in March too
Glad to see Apple adopting the car industry design lang...where every mercedes/bmw etc has around the same design lang for all of their products that is recognisable
So March probably only ipad pros 1 hour max event

These reports should always be taken with a grain of salt, but if Kuo is more or less on the money it means that Apple has basically backpedaled (or further improved) on every major design change introduced with the 2016 redesign. Plus Apple Silicon of course. Pretty huge if you think about it.

Anyway, can't wait to see where this leads, first time in years I'm genuinely excited for a new Mac revision!

Also Kuo indicates Q3 for 14/16 MBPs. Hopefully production/shipping delays are sorted out by then otherwise most people might be waiting until nearly 2022 before they get their hands on these new MBPs.

What are the chances the new 14" will be the same physical size as the current 13", or will it need to get a bit bigger? After upgrading from the MBA 11" to a MBP 13", it's take me a little while to get used to the 13" size.

The new report confirms the updated form factor but makes no mention of mini-LED. Should we still expect the new Macbooks to be equipped with mini-LED displays?

Well, I wasn't wrong.... It seems like there won't be a choice! haha.
Wow. Obviously I thought it was gonna be the opposite!

I'm guessing and hoping a WWDC announcement with a July release. 3Q start 1st of July until 30 Sep.

16 is .8cm longer left to right and .5cm longer up and down compared to the 15. So if it's similar with the 14 v 13, you're gonna be totally fine.

Who knows. Everything is out the window at this point. I hope so though.

Pretty huge if you think about it.

I'm surprised they are dropping touchbar. But I'm also glad. I really hate that gimmick. And it looks like that a lot of people share my opinion, otherwise they wouldn't just abandon it. Or maybe Apple is preparing for a touchscreen MBP?

I see no use in touchscreen laptops, but I can easily ignore touchscreen on a monitor. I can't ignore touchbar.

And after we will get the 16" and the larger 30"or so imac

Waiting for the 16". Soooo glad I didn't pull the trigger on the 16" last Winter. At this point I don't need the extra ports but wouldn't argue if they came back either. I do hope we can always charge by USB-C as an option even if Mag Safe returns. Also, while I know it's not necessarily popular to hope for a lighter weight these days, I do hope it is somewhat lighter, as I walk a lot with my laptop in my bag and recently the weight has been wearing on me, getting old I guess. And while I didn't get the nano-coat on my iMac last year, I would definitely consider it if it was available on the MBP as I often sit in very bright coffee shops (well, hopefully again someday).

In terms of performance, I got a pretty maxed out iMac last year to carry me through the next few years as a lot of the software and plug-ins in my industry are very niche and I want to ensure compatibility. Now that I have that, assuming my industry comes back in full after the pandemic, I'll need something that can render well on the go. My 2017 MBP has always slogged when every I kick into 3d in auto cad and Vectorworks. Hoping for a real leap there with these new models.

Then you guess wrong! Unless you know something that Kuo and Gurman don't, the 14 is not arriving prior to Q3.

No way they release the 14 and 16 at different times (IMO) either. There is simply nothing pointing to separate releases for those machines. They will be announced at the same time at the same event. They may be available at slightly different times, but that will be nothing more than a few weeks difference.

I'm not sure I'd be as definitive as that, but I agree you're probably right. It would make more sense to have an event where they debut both 14/16" MBPs, and a separate event where they debut both iMacs. Feels more logical than splitting them up.

I think even more so given the 16" MBP is currently quite long in the tooth, unless there's some other reason for the delay (production, yields, etc.), makes sense to do the 2 high-end MBPs together.

what do you mean if i know something that Kuo doesnt? Kuo said that the 24" imac to come in 2020...but it didnt...so
So....even Kuo has not exact info on supply chain....
Apple can and probably will release the macs that share the same chip ....macbook air mac mini and macbook pro, all with M1
Next will be the 14" mac mini and smaller imac, maybe with the m1x
16" will not share...or shouldnt share the same SoC as the 14"....maybe only as a cheaper 16" Mbp..but i dont think so
and the 16" will have/need the bigger gpu...build into a bigger SoC like the bigger imac will need too..so lets call it M2
So, i dont see Apple releaseing both 14" and 16" in one event....Apple loves their digital events...
We will see...next event in March 90%, probably for the ipad pros...maybe the 14"...if not, then June-July

Apples history is not with you here..i mean come on, in November 2020....they already split them up ....the only thing that they share is the SoC...
so its clear how Apple marketing team is working for this transition
They will introduce all the macs that share the same SoC in 1 event....and since the 14" and the 16" will not share the same SoC...or shouldnt (i hope not) then will be in different events

Do you think it will have 32 GB option or 16 GB only in the 16 in model? Will they have perfected the Parallels ability by the time of the release? Considering my options down the road.

I can't imagine they will backslide, particularly as there was quite a lot of pressure for 32GB even back when the 2016s launched.
