I haven't seen any rumors about the redesigned 2021 MBPs getting 120Hz / ProMotion. That's disappointing.
its coming in around mid 2021, they will keep Touch ID.I have a mid-2017 Macbook Pro 15-inch. The keyboard is messed up, many of the keys stick and some have fallen out – so I have them taped down with scotch tape...I am unable to send the computer in to get the keyboard replaced because I can’t afford to go without it. I only have 16 gb of ram, and it’s turned out to not be enough for the multitasking and programs I run, as many times I am forced to shut programs down due to running out of memory. I also only have a 512 GB internal SSD, which was a huge mistake, and I use an external Samsung T7 Touch 2TB SSD for my virtual machines and most of my documents.
Please let the rumors be true of a MBP-16 inch Apple SoC coming out in March! And I hope they keep Touch ID. And add support for Nvidia eGPUs while they’re at it.
Agreed. That needs to happen.I haven't seen any rumors about the redesigned 2021 MBPs getting 120Hz / ProMotion. That's disappointing.
Wow. I feel for you. This should not happen. I have a six year old MBP that is a tank and I would be so angry to be in your position. So angry in fact, if it were me, I might gravitate to PC land.I have a mid-2017 Macbook Pro 15-inch. I need an M1x / M2 Mac so bad! My Dell XPS 15's software and bios forces it to just have ridiculously embarassing broken features! Can't even GO TO SLEEP without waking up! These are common issues that plague ALL Dell XPS 9570 owners running the latest BIOS! This is a feature that laptops from 1995 could do!!! And Dell also UNDERCLOCKED THE GPU and turned off UNDERVOLTING with the latest BIOS, causing major HEAT ISSUES combined with WORSE PERFORMANCE!!!
Going to keep the XPS 15 just as a dedicated Solidworks computer, and a new Mac laptop for everything else! But I absolutely CAN wait for the redesign! When is it coming?!

if you wait for the 14" there are chances to come earlier than the 16"...but we will seeWhat is the usual event in June again (could be announced there for July delivery no ?)
Hope it won't be later !!
WWDC is usually held in June, but I think new MBP models would be announced in their own separate event. Much like last year, we don't really know what Apple is going to announce when. What is the usual event in June again (could be announced there for July delivery no ?)

I think your analysis is spot on. Will know in the coming months what Apple's plans are, but this makes a ton of sense to me. Particularly the fact that they probably will start to see a decrease in demand for the 16" intel MBPs given how, to your point, the 13" M1's "smoke" them. There’s been word that the new Mac OS beta has references to 4 unreleased chipsets. 2 of which correspond to the naming convention used for the M1. My guess is that the T8110 and T8112 are the M1X while the T6000 and T6001 are the A14x for the iPad pros (referenced in the Mac OS beta due to sidecar functionality).
Of course all of this is speculation but here’s my guesses:
1. The mention in the beta means the 14” and 16” are coming soon(ish). Either at the March event or at WWDC. This makes a lot of sense because the M1 MacBook Air released with a major splash and there was a lot of press showing how this new entry level laptop smoked the top end 16” in CPU. It just doesn’t make sense for Apple to keep the 16” in such an awkward position.
2. Just like there are 2 versions of the M1, my guess is the M1X will have the same situation. The 14” will get the T8110 and the 16” will get the T8112. The 16” will get more power cores and more GPU cores while the 14” version will have the weaker variant of the M1x. Perhaps the 16” gets 16 cores while the 14” gets 12.
3. As an alternative to the iPad Pro A14x, maybe the T6000 and T6001 are Apple GPUs. We have heard the 14” will get thermals that are similar to the redesigned thermals we got in the 16”. Perhaps we could see the 14” and 16” getting dedicated GPUs with the 16” getting a higher quality version.
I don't know---the 16 inch hasn't been updated in more than a year. It's ripe.if you wait for the 14" there are chances to come earlier than the 16"...but we will see
Lets "travel" first , through March, and see the new ipad pros...and what else will be there...who knows...(there are chances for a March digital event)
You and me both! I love my 16" but it will be nice to have something that runs a little cooler, has a brighter screen (for less glare in bright environments) and has better battery life. Plus after seeing how fantastic the M1 is, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Apple does for their higher end chips. This might change the chip industry again.Man I can't wait for the new models. Feel like checking this every day.
Same here. Looking to replace my 13” Mid-2017 cMBP with the new 16”.You and me both! Every upcoming new mac will support two monitorsI want a 16 M1x, but I have a few reservations. Will it be able to run dual monitors? The M1 can not currently. But I guess my main hold up is bootcamp. It's really nice to be able to boot into windows, even to play some games after work. For these reasons, I think I'm just going to get a loaded 16 inch with the i9 and 5600m gpu.
