We could get an announcement as late as October or November, esp if the iPhone event is in September.
I have an 15“ 2015 mbp and actually it’s still strong. What is your main purpose to upgrade ?Need to upgrade my 13" 2015 MBP, really looking forward to 14" MBP!
Your question is like "You are 40 and your wife is 60, why are you upgrading to a 20 y.o. one?"I have an 15“ 2015 mbp and actually it’s still strong. What is your main purpose to upgrade ?
MBP m1 is permanently 200€ off on Amazon…Given that there are hardly any deals to be had on MBPs (as compared to MBAs), I think an announcement this year is very unlikely.
Interesting. When I look at deals at Best Buy in the US, there's zero deals on MBPs, while $100 off on MBAs.MBP m1 is permanently 200€ off on Amazon…
My birthday is at the end of the month. haAsk for another Apple gift card from whom? Either way most universities have computer labs available if you get in a pinch.
Wow great find!!New rumours from DigiTimes via @RetiredEngineer:
TLDR: M1X will use same architecture as M1 but improved lithography (N5P), M2 delayed late into 2022.

That's exactly what I was starting to think as well. M? processors for mainstream, M?X for prosumer. I could probably get along fine with an M1 for what I do (Logic Pro as the heaviest application), but there's a nagging feeling that more cores and memory would be better in the long run. So I'm eyeing either an MBP or a mac mini with the M1X. If that comes along later this year, yippie yay yeay!New rumours from DigiTimes via @RetiredEngineer:

I will buy it with 8TB.Who's getting 8TB in theirs?
And I hope they will use the professional cooling paste https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-thermal-paste and not their bad thingMe 2.
Will be doing lots of 4K video and want to keep the originals around for a while. Not interested in the external HD shuffle until i abs. have to.
Wonder if, since they won't need intel size fans in it, they have a second drive bay option.
Prob. not though. still....
Are you serious about this? Is this confirmed? I‘d be surprised if they‘d hamper their most sucessful Mac (in sales numbers) by saving a few cents using cheap thermal paste. They can‘t be that crazyAnd I hope they will use the professional cooling paste https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-thermal-paste and not their bad thing
This will increase the performance and even hold it much longer.
For example the Air M1 will not lose 25% performance when you change the cooling paste for a professional one and it will run with full speed even longer than the Pro M1!
Me! I have a 12” MacBook that works pretty well for me right now but I do eventually want to upgrade. I can’t decide between just getting an M1 MBA right now, redesigned MBP this fall, or redesigned MBA next year. Battery life is my top priority, and even though the redesigned MBP will be more powerful it’s hard to imagine them having better battery life than the M1 machines since they are more focused on power. I do quite like the way the renders of the redesigned MBA look.I know its easy getting into the endless loop of waiting for the next best thing, but is anyone considering waiting to see the new MBA, assuming November release of the Pros and if the Q1 MBA rumor consists?
Agreed. Yet we do not know what the power draw of the higher performance chips is going to be. I guess its reasonable to assume the power draw will be higher given the higher performance. Hence there are three questions remaining:New MBP will have better battery life than the M1 MBA and MBP for similar use case. The Mini LED screen will save a ton of power and if M1X is on N5P indeed, it should get a 10% better power efficiency.
We already know N5P grants 10% more efficiency and 5% better perf vs M1 on N5. You can add a couple perf points if they clock cores a bit higher. What are the gains achieved by the next gen node?
True. Anyway, interesting timesYeah but we’re talking about the MBP here. There’s no way we get something else than a SOC, with CPU, GPU and NPU. And the rumours have been pretty consistent around 16 and 32 GPU cores chips.
