I'll buy it as long as it has a 1000 nits display for working outdoor comfortably. I'm tired of staying at home all day for smart working.

Are you serious about this? Is this confirmed? I‘d be surprised if they‘d hamper their most sucessful Mac (in sales numbers) by saving a few cents using cheap thermal paste. They can‘t be that crazy
Yes that’s not a joke.
I saw a video yesterday too but with thermal pads.
Performance increase was +20%!!!
And those weren’t high end thermal pads.

With all the Rumours going wild my questions are:

1) Will we finally get an Official Multi Display support on M1 Macs?

2) Will we be able to max out the 14"/16"Macs in the same way or will the 16" get extra hardware upgrade privilidges again?

1) almost certain.

2) doubt it. to get the most the `16" will have more of something as an option.

I feel the same way! Currently the 2019 16” has a max brightness of 500nits but most review test put it in the mid 400s. Based on the iPad Pro with mini LED we can hopefully look forward to 600-800 nits in normal use with a maximum 1600 peak brightness in HDR use. The 800 nits combined with (hopefully) an improvement to anti-glare should give us something more comfortable to use outdoors or in bright settings (next to a windowunder bright lights). I know I have my 2019 16” on near max brightness almost all the time which of course does wonders for my battery life…

Agree 100%.

For the multi display output, most rumors have pointed to Apple giving the M1X extra headroom to support multiple displays. I’d suspect support for up to 2 or 3 displays.

For the graphics upgrades, the rumors are really mixed and this is something I’m very curious about when the final reveal comes. Some rumors have said the 16 core and 32 core GPU options will be available on both the 14” and 16”. However, just looking at how the current $1799 13” and $2399 16” fit into their lineup, that just doesn’t make sense. The 16” has always separated itself by its graphics power, CPU power and display size.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

MacBook Pro 14”: Comes with 14 core GPU which is a binned version of the 16 core which will be an option upgrade. Max RAM is 32gb. Uses the same M1X but clocked lower due to the 14” having a smaller battery and less space to distribute heat.

MacBook Pro 16”: Comes with 28 core GPU which is a binned version of the 32 core offered as an upgrade. Max RAM is 32gb. M1X runs a little faster and draws more power due to the larger battery and improved thermals of the 16”.

Alternatively, maybe the 16 core GPU actually is the binned version of the 32 core GPU and therefore the 14” comes standard with 16 core and the 16” comes standard with the 32 core and there are no graphics options. So you just upgrade the Ram and storage and that’s it.

This fall will be interesting

Since I will be in clamshell mode most of the time, I could totally get away with a 14".

But the extra size of the 16" will allow apple to take advantge of the thermal needs 32 cores better IMO. Which this time around I am maxing out my macbook pro. including, maybe a 8TB drive.

I am looking to upgrade from a late 2015 pro but it’s still running pretty great so I might have to hold off if a 14" isn't released this year as 16" is a bit big for my use.
For sure a 14" is getting released this year. Unless something happens to the supply chain again and they get delayed, it's coming later this year! Hoorah!

Still holding on my 2015 powerhouse, too. Never let me down. But I want to upgrade next year. The 14" would be perfect for me, as it is as portable as most 13" Notebooks out there while I would hook it to an 4K display for home use anyway. My current iMac has 3,6TFLOPS of GPU power. If the 14 or 16 core M1X can breach 5TFLOPS while staying much cooler, this would be great enough for me already. Add MiniLED, useful ports and physical f-keys, then the Pro is finally Pro again. 64GB RAM is overkill anyway, 32GB will do for >95% of all people.

I use my MBP mostly for Photoshop, Music (SeratoDJ) and causal stuff. But I hope Blender/CAD will also benefit. Super annoyed how Apple neglected them by killing CUDA/Optix, OpenGL/CL, Vulcan, etc... so in 2021 Mac users still have to rely on CPU-rendering. Also Apple is the only major tech-company left which isn't supporting the Developer fund yet, which is simply embarrassing. At least I heard the Eevee engine is running really good on the M1 chips already!

I hear you. But it makes sense if apple is going all in on their GPU solutions.

Sadly, it will take till mid 22 I think until we see the fruits of that at a level to hopefully compete with them.

I'm, starting to think we're not going to have any actual details about the spec of these things until the keynote itself. That's been the way for a while now with Mac hardware hasn't it?

Which is fine by me and I think reinforces the fact that its mainly the iOS supply chain that leaks like a sieve.

Most likely, there’s so many unanswered questions. Was it delayed? If so, there should have been more leaks near the old release time. Will it be M1X or M2X? Will it really use an architecture that is over one year old and with a new one already available? Will it support WiFi6 or WiFi6e? Will it have a maximum of 32GB or 64GB RAM (and be fully accessible by the GPU)? Will there be an M1X and an M1Z (with a clock boost and more GPU cores)? The list goes on.

Will Apple release new architecture in the big form first (X) and then release the scaled down version later that year? This way, more people will be prompted to buy the more expensive version as they want the latest technology. However, it could apply the other way too, getting people to upgrade from the smaller version to the larger version.

Do you think 14" will replace the current 13.3 model? I'm thinking of getting the current one but would like to see what the 14" offering will be - probably not much difference except for the chip (which could impact my decision to get the 14"), mini led or not - don't care much about that, barely any difference like we see from the new iPads.

But the question is will I be able to get 13.3 after they release 14 incher. Because it will definitely be cheaper than 14" and with touch bar which I want, would be nice to have an option but if 14" replaces all of the 13.3 MacBook Pros then I should probably get one now.

They are different machines. the 13 inch M1 replaced the 13 inch intel 2 USB C port machine and this 14 inch will replace the 13 inch 4 USB C port intel machine. They will continue to sell the 13 inch touchbar 2 USB C port model for at least another 9 months I reckon. Who knows after that though. If you like the touchbar I think your only choice is intel or the M1 13.

Historically, MBP redesigns have been coming every 4 years or so. So yes, whether you're waiting for the 14 or 16, the wait has been long. Personally, I've been waiting since 2019 for the ARM+MiniLed redesign of the 13".

It does feel like those of us waiting for an AS 16" (for 20 months and counting) have gotten a bit of a raw deal on this cycle :-(
20 months of burning our laps and fearing the laptop might just take off and fly away by the sound of those fans. Yeah… 2019 model was proof that Apple silicon needed to come sooner rather than later.

I’m really looking forward to having a laptop that can stay cool and quiet and can give me more than just 1.5 hours of battery with final cut.

On the upcoming 14-inch, do you think they'll change the physical dimensions of the laptop or will they just shrink the bezels to keep it the same size as the current 13-inch?

Just

Just note the 16" will probably have the same sizes as the 15" (2015 mpb model)

On the upcoming 14-inch, do you think they'll change the physical dimensions of the laptop or will they just shrink the bezels to keep it the same size as the current 13-inch?

The size diff between the 15" and 16" intel is about .3 of an inch horizontal and .2 of an inch vertical (bigger for the 16). it's also .03 of an inch thicker. But those are the existing intel designs. Who knows what these new designs will bring us. I assume the horizontal and vertical will be almost identical to the current 16. As for the 14 compared to 13. I'd imagine it'll be the same difference between the 15 and 16.
The weight difference between the 15 and 16 is .13 pounds (about 60grams).

These differences are minimal and can't imagine people will notice the difference unless the machines are sat next to each other.

Will the new machines have thinner bezels to the current models? I guess that's the question. But if they are putting in a 1080p facetime camera doesn't that mean a bit thicker? Mmm...

My money is on shrinking the bezels because of the competition if nothing else.

If the battery registration is correct then we can expect a slightly smaller battery for the new 16” (which makes sense considering the M1X will be a lot more efficient and has an integrated GPU). With the smaller battery, the better thermals of the M1X and the reports of the MacBooks moving towards a flat design (with no bulge at the bottom) we could see both the 14” and 16” being a little thinner and lighter than the models they are replacing.

Also if the new iMacs are anything to go by, Apple can now make their machines incredibly thin without sacrificing performance.

Speaking of performance, there is a new leak saying the 32 core GPU will be exclusive to the 16”. Apple has also put some new thermal tech into both models which should help them to stay cool and quiet.

This launch has taken a while but I really think these machines will blow us away and it will be well worth the wait. Apples “X” chips have always been mind blowing so if the M1 (basically an A14X) was already this good then the M1X has to be absolutely insane.
