Too be honest, this could be classed as 2nd generation. It’s a took a year longer than the M1 to be released, that’s normally a complete cycle in Apple world. Additionally, I’d expect Apple would have made architectural improvements to it.
The plan was to buy M1X at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021 and to buy the M2X at the beginning of 2022.
Somehow it is a bad feeling to buy something (old) and at the end of this year you will have it at home, but theoretically you could but the next generation at the beginning of the next year.

It remembers me about Intel, developed new things but started to sell it much much later, because they were the number 1 and it was terrible for the customers to wait every time very very long to buy something new with only 1-3% speed improvement.

Apple should sell (M1 and M1X), (M2 and M2X), (M3 and M3X) at the same time.
If not then there is the problem when the program is running on only one core, then the much cheaper M2 will be faster than the M1X.

The next MBP is a redesign, with a new casing, new screen, new batteries etc. That only happens once every 4 to 6 years. And the first gens often have production or design defaults. Look at the 2016 redesign.
The only potential issue I reckon is the Mini LED screen. Apple is always having screen issues though so would it be really any different? Everything else I think will be fine.

I agree, this one shouldn't be as bad as 2016, the keyboard for instance shouldn't be too different. Yes the screen may be tricky, but Apple seems to have cracked down on QA issues with its mini-led suppliers earlier this year.

I'm pretty hyped up for the new 16" MBP. The battery life on my personal 2016 MBP is terrible now, and i'm starting to see some slowdown with it. Also looking to upgrade my work laptop, but that would require support for 2 external monitors, so the 13" is not an option (dont want that 3rd party displayport thing).
Seeing as how I was burned by the 2016 redesign, i'm thinking of just waiting until the 2022 model comes out. That way they can work out the inevitable kinks people will experience. Holding off until reviews come out at least.

How long does it take to buy a MacBook Pro 16-inch with 20 CPU cores?

How long does it take to buy a MacBook Pro 16-inch with 128GB DDR5 RAM?

Yeah, it’s 2nd generation Mini-Led, so any improvements should be possible. They’ll be limited, we aren’t going to get a completely different panel, but any late adjustments Apple couldn’t make due to time constraints, should be possible now.

But be prepared to wait for custom builds.

I plan on a 8TB maxed out model and I bet that will add 2-3 weeks to my order.

very long ((

What do you mean with very long?
End of 2022 +10% CPU speed improvements
End of 2023 +10% CPU speed improvements
End of 2024 double CPU cores?

Why do you think RAM will need so much time?
Even 11 years ago you could buy 128 GB RAM and with DDR5 the RAM will jump from 32 to 128 GB and from 64 to 256 GB.
The customers can decide what they want/need to buy.

Who knows? It's possible they ran into some issues which caused them to delay the release because this was rumored to be released at WWDC.

That is actually what the rumours said. That some of the yields on the mini led displays weren’t good enough, with too many defects.

Same. But I think I'm leaning towards the 14" for portability. The possible extra GPU-cores is tempting, but I'm used to my 13" and hopefully the M1x or whatever is more than I need.
Yeah I think 14 inch will be the best fit for me. Still a good screen improvement from the 13 inch. I imagine both will start with 16GB of ram hopefully anyway

I would love two 8TB set to RAID whatever so I would have a real-time clone.
RAID is not a backup, RAID is not a backup, RAID is not a backup.....

I see the possibility that the 14" and the 16" will be comparable in CPU power for the first time. With Intel CPUs, the 15-16" machines always got more powerful ones. But if they have an efficient 10 core M1X, they might put it in both. In that case, I will probably go for the 14" because of the portability. Whatever I get, I'll hook it up to 2 external monitors in my home office anyway, so screen size isn't crucial for me.

I know the GPU may be more powerful in the 16", but I don't need it. Just give me the same CPU power already.

How much do you think the 14 and 16 inch will cost in the base version and how much GB do you think the base version of each will have? And do you think SSD upgrade prices will be lowered or not?

I‘d expect the 14 inch version to be roughly equivalent to current MBP offers both spec-wise as well as price-wise, give or take.

And no, SSD upgrades are very likely not going to change much.

As for the 16 inch models: those seem to be more difficult to predict. We don‘t know Apple‘s price policy regarding upcoming Apple Silicon chips. And we don‘t know what GPU solutions / versions they offer. First guess would be that pricing is - again - roughly equivalent to current offers. But plz take that with a barrel of salt

I think 14" will be $1799-$1999. And 16" will be $2399-$2599. Both for the 16gb memory / 512gb SSD base-line configs.

The current Intel versions of these are at $1799 and $2399.

If you put a gun to my head to pick a number, I'd say the base models go up $100 to $1899 and $2499.

So MaxTech reporting Gurman reckons November at the latest for the MBPs.
No way September and Ipad event in October, so November release with shipping within the week???
I hope release is October and ipads come out in November! haha.

If they are going to remove the Touch Bar, it’s going to be cheaper I think
