Yes, of course, but apple will reduce cost with the chip and the Touch Bar, so I think they are not going to rise the price of it, the price that we have on intel MBP’s. So maybe, 2399$ or less for the 16” it’s my bet
We can really open so anyway.
The prices has really climbed up this last decade, at least in my country. The dear MacBook Pro (15”) I bought costed me about 1700USD, this was in 2009, if I want to buy the cheapest MacBook Pro 16” today I have to pay just over $3000USD, (prices are including tax) and I reqlly believe here is a limit for how much regular people are willing to pay for a laptop these days, since the have their phones which can do most “regular people”-tasks but for those that want a real computer for slightly more advanced operations I’d assume the apple computer hype has started to cool down, it’s no longer as much a status symbol for people to sit with a Mac vs a competitive-company computer such as HP etc since Windows/PC- computers have caught up a bit and stopped making those awfully looking computers and taken more than a few design cues from Apple…
So what I’m saying is mostly that people between 15-30 years old might not as often as before be willing to pay 3-4 times as much for a Mac as they would have if they bought a Windows-computer. This is of course only my experience and I’m living in Europe and I guess Apple has always been bigger in the US. I just feel that 5-10 years ago people really wanted Macs if they wanted a computer and wasn’t planning on using it for gaming but these days people more often just want to get a good PC for a decent price and maybe they don’t care that much about what others think / understands they won’t be more successful just because their computer is a Mac.
I’d assume most people that I talked about above will probably go for M1 Mac-models since their prices are rather great and performance as well so if Apple is satisfied with that they don’t have I worry much about too huh prices on the new Macs.
Oh the other hand companies around here seems to have understand how great Macs are and are more often buying Macs. So maybe Apple sales won’t suffer because they raise prices but I feel my limit is soon reached (unless I start making a bit more money with it so that I can afford the luxury of having a Mac… because for work, the company that you work for supply all employees with computers around here, this is true from consultants as well in most cases), if they just offered more fair upgrade prices it wouldn’t be such an issue for myself at least but paying about 4000USD for the computer I want with the specs I think I’ll need for the next 3-5 years is kind of mad. Now with Apple Silicon I hope I’ll feel better about it though because the heat/fan noise always made the purchase feel like I was “skipping corners” for what I really wanted/needed, unless I went for the Mac Pro which was never something I could afford anyway.
So let’s hope Apple will lower the prices of the MBP… though I haven’t got my hopes too high because it’s Apple we’re talking about here. Next best case would be if they at lesst start to offer storage and RAM upgrade for a fair and decent price. Most likely is that prides stay the same.
