Not even a whisper of an apple even for October… maybe November? *sighs*
my 2019 5k iMac is slow as sh*t, not a fan of low powered gourmet iMacs. I’ve had better luck with MBP, was eager for this 2021 MBP

For us saps, the shipping times continuously shift.

Interesting. This is good since I believe we are in the phase now that Apple will ship you an m1x instead of intel. basically, holding all orders up till after the m1x ship date? I mean they will ask current customers firs though I am sure.

Well what's more interesting is when I looked back to what it was a week ago... it's exactly the same as it is right now. Check my post from a week ago:

Yah. they are in total stall and wait mode IMO. I mean this is a once in 15 years type of update for them.

I just have to decide if this is the year I finally upgrade. Kinda planning on it. 2016 MBP 15" i7 16gb 256gb...but honestly all I do on it is the internets. I just got the keyboard and battery replaced about 6 months ago. I honestly could wait longer to wait to work out any 1st year issues with the gen or get another year of performance improvements

It would be nice to have 32gb of RAM so I can tab whore as much as I like with zero issues

Although when you start to upgrade the 16" model some of the lead-times improve, but I guess that's just a glitch in the matrix system.

So what do we think the cost/standard features will be?

Is the 16" still really gonna start at $2400? I guess they save $ with the M1X but more with Mini-LED

Is it still gonna cost $400 to upgrade to 32gb of RAM?

Standard with 512gb it sounds like is a good possibility?

I think this is the year where all those upgrade prices are just total unknowns right now I am afraid.

Let's hope the invites go out tues. but as others have said, probably not till the 19th.

We can definitely learn a lot from the new 24” iMac and the M1 MacBook Air. Apple is definitely trying to reduce the amount the amount SKUs and custom options. We can also see that Apple has kept the base pricing the same. Last but not least, we can see that Apple uses chip binning to help keep the prices down for the base model.

We know there are (2) variants of the M1X. Jade C Chop is the smaller version with 16 GPU cores and Jade C Die is the larger version with 32 GPU cores. It fair to assume Apple will use Chip binning for both M1X versions. IMO it’s also fair to assume the larger Jade C Die will be for the 16”. The majority of MacBooks Pros sold in both sizes will be the base models. So here’s my base model guesses:

- Base 14”: $1799 (or $1899) W/ either 12 or 14 active GPU cores (binned JadeC Chop), 512gb SSD, 16gb RAM.

Mid Tier 14”: $2199 W/ Full 16 GPU cores (full JadeC Chop), 1tb SSD, 16gb RAM.

- Base 16”: $2399 (or $2499) W/ 24 active GPU cores (binned Jade C Die), 512gb SSD, 16gb RAM.

- Mid Tier 16”: $2799 W/ Full 32 core GPU (full Jade C Die), 1tb SSD, 16gb RAM.

The only upgrades for both models will be the SSD size and the RAM. The GPU is based on which tier you get and cannot be changed (same as the iMac and MacBook Air). Since the RAM is all on the same chip, I do think it will still be $300-$400 to upgrade to 32gb.

We will see in a couple weeks!

Thanks for the writeup! How powerful do you think the 16" GPUs will be comparative to the current ones?

Unfortunately I'm starting to get a little bit more pessimistic about this :( With all the supply chain issues, the lack of recent rumors, the underwhelming Watch, all the dashed expectations for the iPhone 13, it seems hard to believe that there's going to be a mind-blowingly amazing MacBook Pro coming out. The rumored specs are insane--it will truly be the greatest MacBook Pro ever created by far. But will we really see that this year? I don't know. I'll keep hoping, but I won't be surprised if we just get silence.

(I also sold my 2019 16" MBP, so right now I'm stuck with an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a Windows PC )
The only people disappointed with the iPhone 13 are the ones who had unrealistic expectations for what is an in-between release. They have no one to blame but themselves IMO.

I guess it depends on how Apple has improved the cores since the launch of the M1. Current estimates say the full 32 core GPU will be comparable to an Nvidia 3070m. So a binned 24 core could get us somewhere around a 3060m which would be a nice upgrade for current base model 2019 16" owners. Of course that's just an estimate based on the tech used in the M1 GU cores.

On the 14", current estimates say the full 16 core GPU will be comparable to the current mid range 2019 16" MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M. So a binned 12 core could bring performance comparable to the current base model 16" with an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. Again just a guess but if that turns out true, that will be a very nice update from what the current 13" model has with its integrated GPU.

CPU power was already fantastic with the M1 so I expect Apple to spend a lot of time talking about the multicore performance and GPU performance of these chips. Who knows, maybe we will get some extra surprises like ray tracing capabilities.

I think anything is possible at this point. Only caveat is that Apple doesn’t typically do Monday events. But never say never.
The reason I made that suggestion is because the shipping dates for the 16" have not changed. They're still October 19-26. I doubt they'll counter-program Google's Oct. 19th event...soooo... ????

I think they would rather come in a day or two after the Pixel event rather than the day before. The day before means their news is immediately buried the next day vs. stealing the focus once people are done paying attention to all of Google’s stuff.

Shipping dates shift all the time, it’s just people seem to focus on them a lot leading up to anticipated product releases. Thing is, it’s automated and if they were tracked long term, you’d see they jump all over the place depending on the status of the supply chain (and of course demand). Not much there to read into IMO. If anything it’s reflecting people not buying the 16” because all of the Apple news and rumor sites are saying the new 16” Apple silicone MBP release is imminent.

I still really like Thursday the 21st for an event day. 30th anniversary of the original PowerBook’s unveiling and allows 48 hours for the Pixel coverage to cool down. Keep an eye out for invites on the 14th. Trying to manifest that into reality. :)
I think you are right - the Pixel date is a dealbreaker here.

Thursday the 21st is a rumored date of a Sony announcement for the alpha 7 mark IV. Not that it's as big a deal as the Pixel.
