I think thats a pretty sweet deal!
When I confirm the order, I'll post specs
twoodcc said:well after playing around with my new mac pro, i'm kinda concerned with it. i know i only have 1GB of ram, but when running these programs:
iphoto, itunes, safari, ichat, eyetv
the system doesn't seem all that fast and responsive, as i thought it would.
any ideas why? iphoto has about 4500 photos, and just watching HDTV with eyetv. safari with about 4 tabs open, and itunes playing in party shuffle
ljones said:Mines was responsive with the 1 gig. No slowness at all, just noticeable paging when i had photoshop and flash open. Safari does eat a lot of memory. Check Activity monitor, see if something is running. MPlayer is notorious for running awol and eating my CPU power. I never noticed any problems doing things, but I did see a huge spike in the CPU activity. From an avg of 9% to a spike of 40% when mplayer was not responding.
babsuvulawho said:Stop it you're scaring me now! I'm hoping this is just a memory thing. From what it seems a lot of people think 1GB is not enough for the Mac Pro's quad cores.
Are you planning on adding RAM anytime soon? That would answer some questions.
twoodcc said:yeah, i guess i need to add some RAM soon. but not til after i pay off the mac pro and get some more money. so that might be a little while though

This is very true. There is no since in even having a Mac Pro with 1 gig of ram. I dont mean to sound rude but if you cant afford to upgrade it to at least 2 gigs, you really cant afford to have the Mac Pro.FFTT said:I understand that a new Mac Pro is quite a financial leap for many users, but
there are countless threads in these forums recommending at least 4 X 512MB
RAMM DIMMS to take advantage of the Mac Pro's architecture.
I think you'll be much happier with your system once you upgrade to 2 GB RAM.
Apple is doing all they can to keep the initial cost down, but honestly 2 GB RAM
should be the minimum recommended configuration running 4 processor cores.

FFTT said:I don't think it's fair to put anyone on the spot or ridicule them for working within their means. RAM prices are outrageous for these machines.
At least you bought a Mac Pro and you made the right choice and you'll appreciate
that choice even more once you can afford to beef up the RAM.
I ordered my G5 with the stock 512 MB's of RAM and I'm still fine with the stock
64MB GForce 5200
I brought it up to 2 GBs of RAM and now it's running sweet.
You'll be more than happy as time goes on.
