If you live near the local distribution hub you can intercept your shipment there.
Just call up Fed Ex and have them get you in contact with the local supervisor.

They can pull your machine off the delivery vehicle and have it there waiting for you.

Be prepared to make notes of any possible shipping damage and be sure to record anything of that nature with the local supervisor. Scrapes, dents in the box anything that might indicate rough handling.
Cell phone cameras can be helpful too if you have one.

I always have my stuff delivered to my office just so someone is always there
and i don't have to worry about weather or sit around the house waiting.

i don't live near one. and it's being shipped to my parents house because of taxes were cheaper (like almost $30).

but it says today that it's on the truck for delivery!! i can't believe it. now if they only get the pre-sign paper my dad put out, everything will be dandy. if not, i'm gonna have problems

Congratulations! I thought about using the pre-sign document, but I don't want to risk the machine being taken by someone who might see it out by my front door. It looks like I will have to wait for re-delivery tomorrow.

thanks. yeah, since my parents' house is out in the booney's, and it's in the middle of a big field, i don't think anyone will see it. unless they have binoculars (sorry can't spell) or something.

i just hope the pre-sign thing works. if it does, i'm driving home (45 min) tonight after class (9:45pm) and i will have it tonight!!

yes, the wait sucks but as soon as you get the mac pro you won't even remember it. i decided being there for the delivery was more important than class. priorities, priorities.

I finally got my Mac Pro!!! This machine rocks so far, but I only hooked it up about 2 hours ago. Man the box was pretty big, I couldn't believe it. I can't wait to start getting everything installed.

WHOA really, you are using it as a windows machine? That is really interesting, I wondered how many people were going to do that...

I am using Adobe Production Studio, Avid Liquid and several other video production related apps. I am very pleased with the Mac Pro. Windows XP is very stable (no crashes or blue screens) on this machine. I have been a PC user since the Amiga days of the Video Toaster but I have always envied the excellent engineering employed in the production of Macintosh computers.

The Mac Pro is a winner!:)

Fedex SVCKS

I asked my wife to stay home this morning to accept delivery, based on tracking which said the machine was due for delivery today and the machine was "on Fedex vehicle for delivery" at 4:30 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., I got an e-mail from Fedex saying "Delivery delayed, scheduled for next business day". I called Fedex to find out WTH was happening and I was told the package was loaded onto the wrong truck! The driver apparently did not realize this until he arrived at our address but had no box to deliver. I asked what Fedex was going to do to address the situation, and they said that they will re-deliver tomorrow. I asked for a specific delivery time to minimize the inconvenience caused by their mistake, and I was told that they only guaranty delivery by a specific day, and not by a specific time. I pointed out that the specific day was today, and they failed to deliver as promised! The person I spoke with had no response.

Really, in the scheme of things I understand this is not a big deal, but it is very frustrating to wait for a specific day only to learn you have to wait some more. I *almost* regret not paying for next day delivery. Of course, the same thing could easily have happened even with next day.

^^^ LOL.

I'm a senior in highschool, and I browse the web in four of my classes. I can in Newspaper, in English 110, in Senior Seminar (in the computer lab), and in my seventh hour where I'm an teacher's aid.

Actually, funny story. Someone managed to get Counter-Stike loaded onto the "Student Drive," and is accessable by every school-login. Without exaggerating, there were atleast 10 or more people in the library throughout the entire day play CS against each other. You have no idea how great a school library is for LAN parties until you get a chance to try it out.

Wow, times have certainly changed. You're surfing the net while you're in class?
At our uni every building is wireless, and most classes require teh use of your laptop. So its very easy to surf and be in class at the same time.

Have you tried both Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop? What are your impressions?

I installed Windows using boot camp. I partitioned 90 gig of the stock 250 gig drive for my windows partition. I formatted it NTFS and am using MacDrive for access to my Mac hard drive. The install of windows went very smooth, no difference from any windows installation that I have done before and I have done many. However, you must follow Boot Camps instructions precisely for installation of the windows drivers.

Since I have not used Parallels Desktop I can't comment but I can't imagine why anyone would want to use it when they can have WinXP natively installed. I suppose if you are a MacHead then you would favor OS X and want to have it by your side at all times. I am quite content to boot into either OS as needed.

Just my opinion!

Congratulations!! Let us know how everything goes.

I haven't heard anything since Apple said mine shipped. The company doing the shipping in Canada, called Sameday, still says they haven't received the package so I'm not sure where it is. Slow boat from China perhaps? :)

I'm just wondering what apps you are going to install. I'm always looking for new apps to try :).

How does EyeTV Software work? Don't you need some hardware for that?
