Wow, I want to see how many people actually waste their money one it. The thing that surprises me is that Apple allows this app into the store, while removing NetShare and Box Office for no reason whatsoever. I understand that NetShare may have gone against Apple's agreements with developers, but there was no reason given for the Box Office removal. I think that this just show's Apple's care for the quality and integrity of their store. But then again, Apple is going to make $300 for each person that wastes there money on it.

So that's why Box Office is not working and keeps crashing. I loved that app! I hope Apple brings it back. I loved having access to reviews and theaters and movie times all in one place. Damn.

I'm sure this was already posted but I'll say it anyway, no time to read 270 posts.

All you need to do is go to this post on MacRumors on your iPhone, TAP and HOLD the photo of the red gem. Save it to your photos. Use it as your Wallpaper or whatever and there you go. Simple hack for a somewhat amusing app.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5B108 Safari/525.20)

There are many people out there who is so 'poor' that the only thing they have in life is... Money.

I am actually perfectly aware of the diamond market, although I'll admit that my post didn't reflect it. Diamonds are not a "rare" earth mineral, that is true; however, being that the market is largely controlled by DeBeers, diamonds are a "rare" commodity in the market. Because of the limited number of diamonds available in the open market, they are valuable.

This still is very different from a mediocre graphic of a diamond costing $1000; it isn't art, it's a rip off.

All of this diamond talk . . . I now notice that there are DeBeers ads on the site now.

This day is looking up again . . . :D

. . . I wonder . . . do you think . . . DeBeers wrote the app for the publicity. . . no . . couldn't be . . .

Better get Mulder and Scully on it right away. They should be available as there current "Historical Document", X-Files: I Want to Believe, did like $7 this week. :)

P.S. In related news my new app "Another way to make Apple censor the App Store" is under review. It will cost $9999.98 (out of respect for the "I Am Rich" developer, I wont charge the same for his breakthrough work), and it will feature a picture of an iPhone displaying a picture of the "I Am Rich" App. Cross your fingers that it gets approved!

Seriously . . . did you not get that?

This reminds me of something a friend emailed me. For $300, you can buy 3 capsules of 24 karat gold dust to make your poop sparkle.

This sort of thing disgusts me. Are people really this self-absorbed and mindless??????????????????

How the hell does something like this get into the app store?!?

I thought some of the junk in the app store already was a bit much, but this takes the pee. How can Apple pull something like Netshare without any explanation and allow this?

It really does make a mockery of the length of time some developers have had to wait for their apps to go through Apple's QA process. If Apple's QA process was worth anything they would be weeding out the junk like this, otherwise what's the point in QA at all?

I'll tell ya. $299.99 in Apple's pocket with every sale says Apple doesn't mind this being sold on their store.

Netshare is an AT&T issue.

It's A Goner!!

Didn't last long. Or, did they run out of jewels. Oh, maybe us little poor bastards couldn't afford it. DUUUUHHHHH!!!!!!!

You think THAT'S bad?

Wait until someone encounters a bug that causes it to disappear off their phone, and iTunes after they've bought it, like seems to be occasionally happening with a few other apps.

I think I'll write up a "cubic zirconia" edition that looks identical to this app's "diamond" but sells for MUCH less. Hmm.....

crap! i accidentally hit "buy app" what can i do? i dont want this thing
haha jk

I can't believe they removed it.

The only problem I can see is it's too easy to accidently download and no way to get a refund. But that could be an issue with the terrible $1 apps from jirbo too.

That coal "I am poor" idea is pretty good. Just sit on it a few millions years and you may have your diamond. Call it an investment. A very, very long-term investment. Shame on Apple for pulling it.

Very funny however, I can't wait for us to see the first news story in which somebody unwillingly trades that red gem for two black eyes, empty pockets, a stolen wallet, and a stolen iPhone. There is no better way to say loud and proud "rob me please!".
Kind of like flashing your cash in public.

Or 'I Am Rich Lite'
That would be cool. :)

the sdk requirements make any useful app violate them

And never before on the internet has hyperbole ever been used instead of actual facts.
Never.

Oh, come on everybody, lighten up!
<snip>
Funny!

What the app is is irrelevant, it's the cost alone that matters here. Kudos to the entrepreneurs that thought it up.
Kudos indeed.

Lame! I was content just enjoying all of the ridiculous posts about this app, but by pulling it down :apple: did the wrong thing. The AppStore consumers should govern (with their wallets) what is worth purchasing and what is not.

This is a sad day . . .

I thought it was going to be a good day.

Seriously . . . LAME!
Agree.

People want choices and if Apple makes them for us then we're just sheep.
Interesting point.

This reminds me of something a friend emailed me. For $300, you can buy 3 capsules of 24 karat gold dust to make your poop sparkle.
I had sushi with gold leaf on it one time. :)

I can't believe they removed it.
Surprised they removed it.

The only problem I can see is it's too easy to accidently download and no way to get a refund.
My guess, is that Apple has a double check on expensive purchases that are over say $100.

Sounds good.

A very, very long-term investment. Shame on Apple for pulling it.
Agree.

Glad I got it before they pulled it..
Just in case you missed it, I've attached an image of it for you.

I'm willing to bet that the moment Jobs sees this, he will not see the humor in it.

Apples rep is something that Steve takes pretty serious, I imagine. While this may be funny to most, its corporately embarrassing. Not the kind of press Apple needs or likes.

you, my friend, make a very good point.

plus, i love how the description says "if it's to rich for you. . ."
how about "too"? with that "bright" of an idea, you couldn't have atleast ran it through someone who has a grasp on the English language?

Glad Apple pulled the app, helps keep the App Store from becoming a huge joke.

Also, I re-created the app on my iPhone so I can fool any idiots who are impressed by it.

The App Store is in it's infancy.

It will mature over time just like the rest of iTMS had done. Give it time.

Anyhow, Apple will need to be very careful how they "sensor" apps. In this case, a person was basically spending $1,000 for a 1 one picture app. Pretty easy decision. However, just take a look at all the free and 99 cent apps. How many of those should be removed? Touch question.

To be honest, and I know that many will disagree with me, but I am glad that they pulled this application, it was apps like this that just start to make the App Store look stupid. As soon as Apple lets one pointless application like this in, many more will come, and pretty soon the App Store will be filled with useless junk, and I for one would like to be able to browse the store without having to sort through useless crap.

[/rant]

So that's why Box Office is not working and keeps crashing. I loved that app! I hope Apple brings it back. I loved having access to reviews and theaters and movie times all in one place. Damn.
The application is still working flawlessly for me, and it is probably one of my most used applications (up there with FaceBook & AIM).

i cant believe they pulled the app!! WHY?! it didn't violate anything. I, for one, really thought it was quite cleaver.. LIke was said above. its up to US to govern out wallets. Do we REALLY want apple to choose what is GOOD and what isnt????

I tried buying it, but my CC company decline it. They called me ask why iTunes was charging $999.

It's a pity that Apple pulled it (IMHO). What are we all going to be up in arms about now?

I thought it was funny, unique and wonderfully satirical. Others hated it. Others thought it was genius.

Why pull it? It's not hurting anyone (only their feelings) and isn't hurting the phone (after all, it does just what it says it will).

They removed it to make room for another new swiss army knife app that combines a bad to do list, with a flash light and a tip calculator all in one.
