I've taken all of them down except Rom the Vacuous Spider...this thing is unbelievable but I'll get him eventually. I've also noticed the scene has changed from afternoon sun to midnight moon so maybe the night has an effect on the enemies..and arcane/frenzy being used more by enemies. Last night I made two mistakes...I went to Cainhurst Castle and got my butt handed to be royally then went to the Nightmare realm and immediately turn my butt around...don't go to these areas unless you're leveled up.

I finally got some elemental effects on my +6 spare saw.

Bless

What is your overall impression so far?

Can't do it .... can't take anymore Bloodborne. I'm making no progress and getting frustrated. Spent more than 4 hours now trying to complete first level / area and getting seemingly no where. Fed up with it so moving on ...

Sounds like me. :D

Never played any of these Souls.. games. Did you play Dark Souls II by any chance? That's on Steam but Bloodborne looks so bloody good that I somehow fear I'd be dissapointed. And I don't think BB will come to PC anytime (soon). :(

I'm breezying on easy through REvelations 2 (since I got stuck rather early for a longer time and thought it had to do with the difficulty setting (it didn't, lol)). If I had more time it'd be a different story.

Btw. just saw that there is a RE4 HD remaster available. Anybody played that? Is it worth it?

I avoided both Dark Souls games after I found Demon Souls to be like having penis surgery without anaesthetic.

Bloodborne is just as painful :D I just can't tolerate it any longer - exacerbated by those 40 second loads times it's like being at Guantanomo

RE4HD - only ok. It's not greatly re-mastered, and sadly RE4 isn't really holding up well to age.

ok, thanks. I'll pass then. Got RE5 for cheap some days ago and will give that a shot then. Don't think it'll blow me away but these seem to be solid 3rd person shooters. Half of what made RE4 so amazing for me were the wii-motes.

Bloodborne, yes I read about the load times. As much as it looks amazing on screenshots I doubt I'd enjoy a game were I die like every other second to stare at a loading screen for about a minute. That's actually one of the best things about pc-gaming..when I think about how much time I wasted staring at my screen/tv..:D :( ;)

I played RE4 on the GameCube and bought it on Wii, specifically because of the Wii Remotes. ...well, also because of all the bonus content that the Wii version had. I still argue that the Wii has the best control for these types of games and first person shooters. I love RE4 but there's no way I'm going to buy it for a third time.

I bought RE5 Gold because it had PlayStation Move support. But I never ended up buying PlayStation Move because so few games used it. So, I have yet to actually play my copy of RE5. Eventually. Anyone here played it with Move? Maybe I can find a cheap used PS Move set....

Well don't feel bad, you gave it a good college try. Souls games after all are niche games for masochist and not for everyone.

I wish I had as much time to play Bloodborne right now and/or was as good a Souls player as Siddhartha and 2nyriggz. Those guys seem to be cruising along in Bloodborne quite nicely.

I'll only get a couple of hours this weekend to play it. I'm probably better off working off Bayonetta 2 with so limited time...

Well, I'm apparently a glutton for punishment because I picked up the Dark Souls II "remake" today. Haven't played it yet though...

Haven't played Dead Space

Definitely check them out. The first 2 anyway. The 3rd one can probably be ignored.

1 and 2 are great - good stories, great controls, plenty of creepy/scary parts.

Dead Space 3 I've only played through once, solo. It felt much more action oriented than the first 2, and I think that really hurt it. I remember getting fed up with the game for all the waves and waves of enemies it would throw at me. Enter a room, some enemies pop out of the vents, kill them all, another wave, kill them too, okay moving on, oh wait..the music got ominous again, kill another wave, ...and another, and.. oh come on quit it, let me move on to the next room! It wasn't really challenging, just annoying being swarmed all the time. Maybe it would be a better game if played in coop. I'm guessing that's why there were so many enemies, so both people would have plenty to kill..

I haven't got very far, but there are plenty of minor changes... enough to make you "re-experience" the levels and re-approach your tactics. Even the training area at the start has been changed (basilisks!).

To put it short I think BB is the best game this generation. This game has sucked me in and only other series to do that to me is Silent Hill. I'm enjoying just about everything about this game..don't get me wrong its tough but nothing I can't handle. I'm on my 9th or 10th boss now and I have to actually force myself to stop playing. The world they created is just so intriguing and scary.

I'm hoping the Witcher 3 pulls me in like this.

Noted.

All this zombi talk made me itchy yesterday (night - curse the steam store and its almost immediate "gratification" :D) and bought Dying Light, fun game so far.

Could've used some more models for the zombis though, they all look basically the same as of now.

But great, great atmosphere - like the sound design too. Parcour element is a wee bit too strong and comical imo - makes you feel like superman - maybe it's the sprinting, lasts too long. A bit less in that department could have made it seminal (anyone here watching movies by Luci Fulci? goes a bit into this direction and it's awesome!) - but who knows, maybe I'd have stopped playing because it's too damn scary? :D

After that Nintendo Direct last night I went into the 3DS eShop to pick up Box Boy. So I have that! It's really nice, typical Nintendo puzzler with it's charm and challenge. Also got Fantasy Zone 3D and Outrun 3D which are pretty neat! I'm liking Fantasy Zone more than I thought I would, pretty ahead of its time for the year it was released.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D turned up yesterday too. Only an hour in but I can see why this is so well rated, really good story and gameplay.

I wouldn't call myself much of a gamer at all, but I really enjoy the Souls games.
I definitely found that it "clicked" for me after about 5-10 hrs of play, when I started to really figure out the controls, and things like backstabs, dodging, and separating out one enemy from the horde and drawing them away.

I found it really rewarding when I improved enough to explore without constant stress, and I'd think you might, too. It's a grind in the beginning, no question, but you may get totally sucked in (as I did) if you stick it out for a while.

I gave up on Demon's Souls early on, then came back to it after Dark Souls. Almost didn't buy Dark Souls, but when I was checking it out at GameStop, the kid there was like "This game is the best thing I've ever played, and you're not leaving here without it."

I'm going to start on Uncharted 3. At least I hope I can start on it...

Got my PS3 Slim out of storage and hooked it all up again after not using it for maybe 8 months. Unwrapped my brand new copy of Uncharted 3 and put the disc in. The PS3 spins the disk several times (while making some slight clicking noises), makes the disk eject sound, trys to read the disk again a few more times, then quits. Ran my bluray lens cleaner through 4 times with no changes.

Guess my bluray drive might finally be croaked. I had some issues getting Metal Gear Solid 4 to read last time I played that (long time ago). Must be just certain blurays that won't work. I don't remember having any issues getting the last game I played on PS3 to work (Metal Gear Rising). My lens cleaning disk shows up right away, as a DVD. CDs probably work fine too..

I did have the drive replaced by Sony when my PS3 was about 7 months old.. It was doing same thing then as it is now..

A new PS3 might be in my near future. Looks I could replace the drive for about $75 from what I saw on Amazon, but that's about 1/2 the price of a whole new system....

Are the disk drives in the PS3 Super Slims any more reliable?

edit-
opened up my PS3 Slim today and tried cleaning the bluray laser lens. Made no difference. At least I didn't make it any worse! Guess the bluray lens is dying a slow death. Uncharted 3 and MGS4 are the only games I've tried so far that don't read. Everything else I've tried has worked. Guess I'll forget about it for now and move on to the PS1, PS2, Xbox360 games in my backlog. Maybe I'll eventually put a new laser in it ($25) or wait for the PS3 Super Slims to drop even more in price ($99 please!, Black Friday??)..

To me a game shouldn't require a 5-10 hour commitment before it becomes enjoyable.

I don't mind increased challenge, but increased challenge and unfairness are clearly at too different ends in Bloodborne.

I finally found myself making progress yesterday. Got much further than I ever got previously, and then the game set up a trap. Led me into an area clearly intending me to die there - end result all that progress destroyed and back to beginning. That sort of BS is not a fair challenge - that's simply annoying. The lack of checkpoints in a difficult game to me is making the game impossible to get any real enjoyment from it. I should be rewarded for having to get past a horde of enemies, taking them down with at least some form of checkpoint. Not berated by having to get past them 5 million times only to die when the game designers decide to play 'feck you' with the gamer.

I love the aesthetics, the idea of the game. The mechanics are to me utter BS and utterly ruining what could have been for me a fantastic game.

There is no reason a game can not be welcoming to gamers as well as sadomasochistic to those with those tendencies.

I already see lots if copies of bloodborne on the trade websites. Clearly I'm not the only one who bought it wanting to like it, but finding the entire experience too much work to ever be called entertainment.

Please keep in mind too that the "5-10 hr" period of time it took me to get comfortable is in part because I am not a real gamer-so I had NO moves at all to start with. Also, that period of time for me carries over to all the Souls games, so divide by 4.
That said, BloodBorne is still a work in progress. I do love it.

Souls games are not for everyone, true. But, I went through the same emotions I suspect you are going through now, and with replaced controllers, I finally got the hang of it, and am glad I did. I don't get this sense of accomplishment from any other series out there.

I think it depends on the game. I find my fuse is shorter for games like Monster Hunter, which take hours before they get interesting. But BB to me seems to do it just right. It's not something I want to see in all games but having one game like this a year is great for me.

I'm still trying to get through Super Luigi U and the secret levels in Mario 3D World! (in co-op which is probably adding to the difficulty)

Finished Bloodborne today and got what is deemed the "true" of the three endings you can get. The Souls games aren't known for their endings so don't be expecting much here as the games have always been more about the journey than the destination. It is very similar in spirit to the endings we got in prior Souls games tho.

Plan to resume playing Final Fantasy Type-0 next.

Fair play to you. I never managed to get beyond Central Yargham ....

Traded the game today for The Order 1886 & Saint's Row Re-Elected

I'm actually loving the Order 1886. It reminds me of a Quantic Dreams style game and the graphics and atmosphere are truly exceptional.

Well done!

I had my in-laws here this weekend, so only had a chance to upgrade the HD on the PS4, and play for about 20 mins...

Managed to get past the machine gun guy, and land some ways down (thought I could make the jump, but wasn't sure) then worked my way back up. Managed to get to the tower where the machine gun guy is, and killed him the second try-the game definitely rewards you for being aggressive!

Now I'm not sure where I'll pick up, but I'm off tomorrow, so should have a bit of time to do it

Any tips that you have for starting class/weapons? And should you simply upgrade your first choice of weapon, or hold out for what you find later?

I'm a couple hours into Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I never did play RE3 back when, just the demo a few times.

I'm liking it much more than Res. Evil REmake. Nemesis himself is pretty frightening. Killing zombies is actually FUN in RE3, and there sure are a lot of them to deal with.
