Or, install Dark Web. Works great on my Powerbook, is now my go to PPC browser of choice. I'm really shocked by how much of my regular internet browsing works in Dark Web.
Install InterWebPPC, it works great on MacRumors.
Lol..don't go around telling nonPPC users that...they might get the wrong impression about you.Or, install Dark Web. Works great on my Powerbook, is now my go to PPC browser of choice. I'm really shocked by how much of my regular internet browsing works in Dark Web.
Had me thinking that would look not outta place if seen some where in the back ground of the movie 'Alien'. Be a great one for the movie 'Mac spotters'.Ok, got around to adding cobalt blue LED to my Powermac G5. The led strip I bought was sent with the wrong tip (6.5mm barrel jack) so I cobbled together 12v & ground molex to a 4.5mm plug to power the strip and voila, it turned on. I split power from the optical drive. Being LED I thought the 3.3v would work but not enough juice.

Im pretty happy with how it looks although at extreme angles to the front, you can see the strip which is pretty bright. I saw where someone else used opaque tubing around the strip (I didn’t have any) to diffuse at that angle and it would be a worthy step if you have some. All in I’m happy - cost me $6 bucks and some junk junkie bits & I like how it showcases the thermal zone guts.
Someone (quite rightly, I think) pointed out a while back (maybe wick??) that Linux will work on PPC macs, but it still isn't as fast (or good) as leopard or tiger. Not nearly enough, so I'm gonna pull my iMac G5 and my iBook G3 out of storage, my two machines that I feel like I've gotten the least use out of, both to try again with these new OSes that I've been finding. Probably BonSlack 14.2 (which will be a nice trip down memory lane) on the G3 and Arch or CRUX on the G5.
I think @wicknix has already taken that as far as can be done with his Lubuntu 12.04 remix.A light weight Linux could provide just that and be for that purpose alone.
I agree very much so.I think @wicknix has already taken that as far as can be done with his Lubuntu 12.04 remix.
I think the problem is, a modern, fully functional browser is far heavier than most PowerPC Macs have hardware to cope with.So my thinking was - wot if we take just a working OS shell, and whack a browser on it.
Yes..Tis the way of the web I'm afraid.I think the problem is, a modern, fully functional browser is far heavier than most Macs have hardware to cope with.
Hey..how's that working out for ya, Doq?Someone's been inspired by an article or a website or a thread.
Me, I've been working on tarballing various distributions for use in Bedrock on PowerPC; give it some new stratum options.
Well right now I have Bedrock configured on THE KING with Debian and Gentoo strata, and it does work well as is currently. I'm not running into any new major issues; the only one really being the brightness issue, an already known issue with Debian on DLSDs.Hey..how's that working out for ya, Doq?
Erm..think I'll just keep tinkering with 'Orion burger' ..for now.Well right now I have Bedrock configured on THE KING with Debian and Gentoo strata, and it does work well as is currently. I'm not running into any new major issues; the only one really being the brightness issue, an already known issue with Debian on DLSDs.
It's definitely more of an advanced tinkerer kind of system rather than a primetime mainstream solution, so take that as you will.

iTunes but have used FStream and MPlayer in the past. What app(s) are you using to stream them?
Do you think you may have more luck booking from a cd/DVD?I know what I haven't done yet, and that's install Arch. I'm not sure why, but the USB drive isn't getting recognized by my iBook G3, despite it being USB 2.0 (and thus 1.1 power draw) compatible and even booting into Leopard 9A303 to verify that yeah, the drive is being read just fine. But in OF, it gives one single flash of activity and then might as well not exist.

If it helps, I dded the image from Fedora on my SL3, not from a Mac. If that makes it incompatible with Open Firmware, that would make sense...I can try dding from the iMac instead. That ended up not being it. I flashed it and then later on also tried booting it on the iMac G5 and it doesn't want to boot it either.
