Modern Family used to be my favorite comedy. I still watch it, but I've been disappointed with it the last few seasons. In my opinion, its quality deteriorated significantly after season 5, maybe in large part due to the now-grown kids who just aren't as funny as they used to be. Unfortunately, even the performances of some of the adult actors come across as unnatural and overly forced. Some of the storylines still provide decent laughs though, so for me at least, that would be its saving grace at this point.

I'm genuinely surprised by how much I love this show.

I'm just catching up on Designated Survivor.

Holy ****
, is that a good show! It's just as intense as Keifer Sutherland's other show, 24, but in a very different way. Tom Kirkman starts out as this mild-mannered guy who has to grow into the role of president, and it's fun to see him be reasonable and pragmatic...until someone pushes him too far, and then his badass side comes out. Fun!

Is there anybody who didn't think, right from the first episode, that this was an inside job?

Designated Survivor has been my favorite show this season.

Have yet to watch the latest episode...but I hope they uncover more details about the bombing and not deal with the side drama that the writers added to entice the viewers. I ain't got time for that.

Watching the Walking Dead tonight saw an advertisement for a show called Humans on AMC which apparantly first aired last year about a society with synthetic humans. Filmed in England the first episode was interesting, but they get right to it, certain synthetic humans, Synths, have more than androids normally have, self awareness. Anyway I did not see this on demand on my Sling TV AMC channel, but found season one on Amazing Prime for free (with a prime membership). I'll keep watching. :)

Humans is a really good show. An interesting counterpart to Westworld these days actually. Season two just stated airing in UK, but for some reason AMC isn't going to carry it until sometime early next year (despite showing season one simultaneously).

The same kind of thing happened with Downtown Abbey. The UK got it in the Fall, the US not until Jan. That's good cause I'll have time to catch up with Season 1 and not be rushed. Did you see ExMachina? I forget (the ExMachina thread, AI thread) but if you have not, it's a must see if you are into AI stories. :)

You'll love "Humans" if you enjoy anything remotely AI. Great production values all round, we absolutely loved it here.

Just started season two last week. It's a really good show. Probably my only gripe with it is on what planet would it ever be cheaper to employ a Synth to do low value waitressing or whatever? The cost verses the minimum wage would be pretty astronomical imo.

I have to admit to some facepalm-ery: thought it was Chris Nolan that was involved with the writing of Westworld.

But since Jonathan is actually his brother and was also involved in the writing of Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises my comment re quality still stands to some point. :p

Stopped watching Westworld after E4 - boring stuff.

Started watching The Wire again. The good stuff!

E6 was anything but boring for me. But then I actually liked Jonathan Nolan's Person of Interest.

We found out a lot more about what Ford has been hiding in Sector 17 and about the voices that some host have been hearing.

We met the Delos board member and Maeve went all Lucy on us. Teddy went all Rambo and mini-Robert killed his own dog.

We even saw the gunslinger in the shadows in the deep basement.

I think this may be a show that will be better to binge watch for some if the reveal pays off.

Silicon Valley was that way for me in S1 I almost gave up on it, but found it hilarious when the pieces they dropped through the season came together in the last two episodes.

I stopped after E5 actually, not E4. It's just the usual back and forth (this happens and then this happens and then this happens but before this has to happen - like a video game wher Mario wants to rescue the princess, gets into the castle just to find out she's in that other castle. But no, not that one but the other one.. ;)) with the thrown in orgy/mass shooting/other graphic stuff to keep the audience awake. But I fell asleep at GoT and TWD too so it's probably just me.

I like Dolores and the scene where the main-hooker (name?) wakes up and wanders around the facility to see the "mass grave" / robots out of order. The New Yorker has a nice article about it too. But unfortunately those moments are too rare.

But you are right actually, maybe a good idea to wait til it's finished and if I hear back from people I trust that it's actually resolved in a proper fashion I might check it out again. This way is just too damn frustrating - also I can see one episode of The Wire in the meantime, which is kind of a no-brainer for me ;)

Different strokes for different folks!

I have avoided GoT so far, but will binge watch it some day, but TWD both comic and TV have me hooked.

B

I heard that the comics are awesome - but I stopped pulling them (comics in general) altogether some weeks ago. Just not reading them.

I loved the first TWD episode - so intense!! But then it became a soap opera really fast so I stopped after S1 finished.

On my signal, unleash hell.

Just started on my tv tonight.

Russell Crows best role and the one I'll always associate him with no matter how many more films he makes.

I loved him in LA Confidential - he and Guy Pearce were both very good, Kevin Spacey - as usual - was outstanding - while James Cromwell (whom I once had the privilege of seeing live on stage - a super actor) was simply brilliant.
