In all its high-definition glory. The snake-iguana scene was riveting.

Agreed. Brilliant.

That scene was absolutely stunning; it was some of the best TV I have ever seen in my entire life.

Actually, the stakes were so high for both: This was a black & white binary choice: For the racer snakes (best dinner in the entire year, and it was each snake for itself) versus the challenge of do or die - pure survival - the basic and brute necessity for the newly hatched marine iguanas to scuttle at speed - when just hatched - to reach the safety and sanctuary of the cliffs, or be dinner for the snakes, made it absolutely spell binding TV.

Red Oaks (2014)- Season1&2. Amazon Original Series, centered on characters at a N.J. Country Club, 1980ish, 4-30 min episodes in, it's light, watchable, I think it wants to be a comedy with likeable characters but it's not Caddy Shack. :)

...C- artwork, and yes, that's Paul Riser, the bad guy in Aliens.

Planet Earth II in the next 10 minutes. Essential Sunday night viewing.

Absolutely essential Sunday night viewing; unmissable.

While it is on, I am in a 'no contact mode'; mobile phones - cell phones to our Transatlantic Cousins - are switched off (not, not silent - switched off), landlines unanswered.

What a simply superb series, brilliant, and seriously riveting and gripping TV. Fantastic camera work, research, and meticulous products values. First rate.

I'm glad Netflix partnered with BBC to show the series now I can get it while traveling.

Have you been watching it? It is one of the most outstanding programmes - and I hardly ever watch TV - I have ever seen.

In fact, it is so good, that I daren't pour a drink to sip while watching it - which is what I would normally do when watching say, "Foyle's War", or "Downton Abbey",- other than a welcome glass of mineral water to ease a dry and parched throat while I am gnawing my nails.

Watching this, I find myself sometimes actually literally holding my breath, fists clenched, nails biting into palms of had, it is that bloody good.

Spectacular - and a terrific example of public service broadcasting at its best.

Yes, I have been watching it, it is well done. I'm surprised you don't have a pause feature on your remote control, I make use of it all time.

Very sensible approach, and perhaps one I should have employed. Enjoyed the first 35 minutes then took a call from a friend! I'll catch the rest on the iPlayer later.
It's the camera work that impresses me as much as the wildlife I think! Especially the macro stuff.

I do. However as we were both watching it, I let it carry on and took my call upstairs.

Never even checked it out (the 'pause' button); I'm sure that there is such a thing, but no, I would not use it.

As it happens, I rarely watch TV by choice, and hardly ever for enjoyment. If the latter, I do not wish to be interrupted.

Thus, when I am immersed in something of this sort, I am completely immersed. Sod the world, this is a series to lose oneself in and marvel at.

I loved Foyle's war. I'm fascinated with that period of time. It's a bit like Midsomer Murders in the 40's, easy viewing. Enjoy.

My wife is addicted to Midsummer Murders. :) One thing I'll observe about English TV, it seems to fill a nitch of stories based in intimate small town (village) settings. We were enjoying Grantchester (the clergyman detective) on PBS, but I'm not sure what happened to it, if PBS stopped carrying it or what.

Some of its set in City's (Luther, Waking the dead etc). It's just all our towns seem small to you guys!

Luther is awful. Haven't started with Foyle's War. I've been preoccupied with other things and the kids. I had no idea Midsomer Murders was still on! I thought the show finished up in '04. I'd say 35% of British shows, serious shows, are a flop, but the rest are good. Nothing like our networks here that try everything under the sun.

Have to disagree with you. Idris Elba as Luther is an amazingly good show.

Going to start Foyle's War today provided I can clear the day. It's been on m to watch list since 2013.

It is a brilliant series, great scripts, terrific cast, meticulous history - and, as an historian by profession (well, once and possibly future historian), I am anal about fidelity to historical accuracy.

That sounds like it could be interesting.

Well worth viewing, to my mind; one of the few 'entertainment' programmes that i would clear an evening to watch.

Foyle's War isa lot better than Midsomer Murders, because it uses the device of a murder mystery to look at history and social issues; it woks because the cast, characters, are consistently excellent, and the stories are meticulous in that they are historically solid and very good drama, too.

Both programs are excellent.

Agreed.

Take the time to enjoy Foyle's War; it is one of my all time personal favourites.

Now, making preparations to watch the last episode of Planet Earth II, which has been absolutely essential viewing for the past six weeks on a Sunday for me.
