Wow. Planet Earth II: What an extraordinary episode and what an astonishing and simply superlative series. Awesome, and would well repay repeat viewing, not just once but many times.

Outstanding and utterly unmissable. Fantastic television. Public service broadcasting at its best.

Watching Rillington Place. Tim Roth brilliant as John Christie. I remember the old film with Planet Earth 2's presenter's brother playing Christie. (My poor attempt at a link!)

Yes, I remember Sir Richard Attenborough playing John Christie (and he was superb and suavely sinister); the unfortunate Timothy Evans was played in a compelling and stunning performance by John Hurt.

I haven't seen the current version; Tim Roth is a fine actor; do you recommend it?

Yes. Tim Roth is very good. Also a BBC production. It's a 3 part programme. Just watching part 2 now. I think you can get the first episode on "catch up".

I think the first movie I remember Tim Roth in was Pulp Fiction (the guy at the diner with his girlfriend) and then in Rob Roy where he played a suitable villain. A talented actor. :)

Yes, he was 'Ringo' aka 'Pumpkin' in Pulp Fiction, and he also had a role in Reservoir Dogs. An excellent actor, agreed.
Agreed. Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead was amazing for both Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. My wife and I also enjoyed "Lie to Me" with Roth, although it got tired towards the end. I also didn't like that he tilted his head to indicate he doesn't believe you.

Still no Foyle's War. At this rate, I may wait until Christmas. On the other hands, I've cracked open my Mission Impossible Set. Got a few minutes into the first DVD before being interrupted. That was yesterday evening. By the time I was done, I was too tired to keep my eyes open and went to bed. Will have another crack at it tonight.

Watching Close to the Enemy by Stephen Poliakoff (love all his stuff). If you like Foyle's War you'll love this. Set just after the Second World War it's about a British agent trying to get a German jet engineer to work for the British. Throughly enjoyable.

Over the years, I have seen some of Stephen Poliakoff's stuff (and have liked what I have seen), but not "Close to the Enemy". I take it that you recommend it?

As for Foyle's War - I don't just like it, I love it.

In fact, it is one of the very few programmes I will watch again, and again, and is a series where I will readily watch repeats, whenever they are shown if I am around.

Seriously, I recommend it; strongly, passionately, seriously.

One of my all time favourites.

@Scepticalscribe Yes, I recommend Close to the Enemy. Not finished yet, I think the last one's on over Christmas. It's on BBC 2 and there's been 5 or 6 episodes so far so not sure if you'll be able to "catch up" from the beginning as I believe the BBC only allows you to download the last two week's programmes (but I could be wrong?).

What night is it on? BBC2, when, exactly?

(I so rarely watch TV - and I never have it on in the background, I am one of those who switched it on when I want to watch something and turn it off afterwards - that I rely on my brother to text me about stuff - e.g. he will sometimes text out of the blue: 'a repeat of Foyle's War is on tonight at...on...")

Episode 5 was on last Thursday. Episode 6 on tomorrow at 9pm. Just watch 5 or 10 mins or so and you'll get the "feel" of it and if you'll like it or not but I think you will.

We mowed through season 2 of The Man in the High Castle in 2 or 3 days. Now we have to wait. And we're out of shows. :( May finally check out Westworld.

I'm not sure how many Mythbusters fans we have on these forums, but there is a mega marathon starting tonight on the SMITH channel - may be a different channel in your area. They begin with airing the first episode (2003?) and then continue with back-to-back Mythbusters episodes for the next 2 or 3 weeks (all 13 seasons!).

Stock up on popcorn, this is gonna ROCK!
