What happens to those who took advantage of buying a new MBP with the $100 rebate on a new printer? I went for that, and I got my printer, but still waiting on the laptop. If you look at the rebate form, I believe I need both the UPC from my printer AND Macbook Pro. I at least need my receipt, but I have no receipt since I have not been charged for the MBP yet. Now, the rebate also says that I MUST send in the rebate form within 30 days of purchase. So... I ordered on the 19th of January, does this mean that if my MBP doesn't get here until March that my rebate form is invalid?

That brings up a really good point. The same should be asked for the ones that bought Office as well.

From Amazon, correct? They're very good about customer service, and I'm fairly confident that they would work with you if you contact them and ask about it. Since it's out of both your hands and theirs, I think they'd be willing to extend it.

I am not sure about Amazon but I know Apple was running this (printer deal) as well as the 50% off office deal.

I for one don't think it is an Intel problem ( I could be wrong though). I am thinking a battery issue may have came up. I know that the spare battery is quoted at 6-8 weeks now. Does anyone know if that has changed?

That would make sense since all those new batteries are shipping with new MBP's. The only problem that is with intel is meeting insane demand. Everyone and their mother wants this chip and for good reason. There are several Core Duo systems already out there that aren't running into any probs.

New macbook screens

It's the new screens that are the problem. They won't even be in the factory where the macbooks get assembled until february 24th.

Yeah the 1.83 is being used in several systems. I could see a shortage because of this. However, Dell is quoting a ship date of 2.20.06 on their laptop that uses the Core Duo 1.83. So it is hard to tell. I just know that I have been needing a laptop ever since I sold my powerbook and I hope that they ship on the 15... or before...

Where did you hear that little tidbit?

Where did you hear this? First I have heard of that...

Apple is known to have a first-come, first-served order system and if they have pushed back a bunch of people then those people are going to be seriously pissed about that. I just don't see why Apple would risk messing with so many people for no good reason.

I think what we are seeing so far is just the way the ordering system works. Whan the MBPs were announced new entries were made for the new models and default ship/delivery dates entered. For some reason UK orders were given a ship date of 7th Feb. When the 7th came round, with no further information, the order system automatically pushed the date back to the 10th and sent out a standard delay email (hig demand etc.).

When the 10th Feb came, again no new information, so some update rule was triggered that said push back the estimated date a month to 10th March, and sent the standard email. This is the best the system can do without new information coming in, and aims to cover most cases.

What this means for the 15th Feb is really just speculation. Until real shipping data starts entering the system, it's all just estimates based on automated rules.

Well I will have some news tomorrow as Apple are due to phone me back to explain why mine has been delayed.

If you're in the same situation, it might be helpful if you could also inquire into what's going on with your order, similar to maverick808. This way we'd have multiple voices. For instance he might get somebody less able on the phone than you.

Did you even read the discussion up til this point? Its been stated time and again that people who had a shipping date of Feb 7th weren't told until that day that their order has been pushed back. Until Feb 15 comes and laptops start shipping there very much is a real concern.

Yes, I've read the discussion (and participated in it quite a bit, if you read back through it). As I said before, I think the February 7th date that some early UK orders got was a mistake and that the MBP was never intended to ship prior to February 15th. I can see some anxiety creeping in, hoping that they will meet the stated shipping date, but I don't think there is any basis in fact for all of the speculation about possible manufacturing or component supply issues pushing back initial shipments.

Don't worry, ive been calling too, but one thing that gets clearer everytime i call is they seem to know as much about the situation as we do (not a lot!)

But ill keep checking in with them.

I used the same offer, and I talked to a rep about this before, Apple is aware of the fact that the customer can't send in both UPC's within 30 days of purchase. So they are going to be easy on us and we should just send in the rebate as SOON as we get the MBP, my assumption is they'll act like the purchase date is the day your credit card gets charged. Anyways, just thought I'd put your mind to rest on that.

As of this morning my credit card's available credit was reduced by the amount that my MacBook Pro costs... the online system doesn't show the actual transactions for close to 24 hours, so I'm not sure if it's a hold or an actual charge, but this looks promising.

Just for completeness:
- they charged a temporary authorization before when I originally ordered on Jan 10 and then removed it a day or so later.
- I ordered the 1.84GHz MBP with the 7200rpm hard drive (no other upgrades).
- I'm in the US and have had a Feb 15 ship date since day 1.

They did an auth on mine as well but it never has been removed. I ordered mine on the 31st of Jan. It still shows a hold for the amount of my 1.67 mbp.

There is an Intel chipset shortage going on for months and it will last for some more.

Is it a Chipset shortage or a CPU shortage? I would think that the iMac would have the same Chipset and it don't look to having the setbacks that the MacBook Pro is having.

I wish MacRumors required that everyone who posts some ridiculous claim posts their reputable source on the subject.

Chipset shortage?

No way, it's totally a display clasp shortage!

They did the same authorization thing with mine. I just am waiting to see what will happen. Maybe they will send everyone thiers tomorrow. Even our English friends. Maybe even give a few to the French.

Credit Card Authorized too

My card was authorized this morning too - ordered day of the keynote, and Feb15/Feb23 since then. So, I guess things are looking fairly promising. :D

I will be phoning first thing Monday to complain, not only about the multiple failed shipping, the failure to honour the promise they made to ship in February but also about the terrible service of sending an email saying that they are ignoring it.

Apple/Steve Jobs NEVER promised they'd ship YOUR or MY unit in Feb. The promise was that the MBP would ship in Feb. To who the MBP would ship to in Feb Apple never said. Moreover, the dates given on your "Order Status" page clearly say "estimated shipped by," and "estimated delivered by." Estimates are not concrete. I'd think this would be obviously, but clearly it's not.
